Sipdown!! (210)

In contrast to the Tiramisu matcha I had earlier which was slightly short of 1/2 a tsp, I had just over 1/2 a tsp of this left. I dumped the whole thing into a glass and made myself some maple syrup matcha milk. Sipping on it now, I probably should have saved the excess to combine with something else at a later time because this is a little vegetal (think maple syrup sprinkled on grass). This is not the way I wanted my time with this matcha to end but c’est la vie. Nonetheless, I am glad I got to try it so thank you Fjellrev (and Sil) for providing me with a sample.

keychange

no no no no! I’m hoping so hard that I don’t taste grass in the matcha samples you kind folks have sent me!!

VariaTEA

Just don’t overleaf (overpowder?)

Courtney

I have lots of hope for Banana & Cream keychange. I really hope you like it. :)

1 1/2 scoops of this distinctive flavoured matcha, almond milk, half a banana, and chia seeds. I know there’s some maple syrup just below the surface of perception. Sometimes it even emerges from those murky depths, but like an iceberg I know I’m not experiencing the majestic fullness of maple syrup.

I think this is one of the very few matcha flavourings I’d contemplate going with Robust. I’m not keen when Maple dominates thin wispy things like rooibos blends but this is a smoothie! All the other flavours are confident enough in themselves to handle maple. It should let itself go more instead of settling for the vague aftertaste I’m getting. Be bold maple, or hand me the cookies.

In contrast, I actually taste green matcha in my flavoured smoothie, which is an amazingly rare occurrence.

Thanks, Sil! I enjoyed this one.

Courtney

The notes on this one really have me on the fence about it. I’ve been tempted because I love maple, but I want true maple flavour, that is actually there haha.

Sil

it doesn’t taste like maple to me courtney… but if you DO get it…go for robust. even distrinctive wasn’t enough flavouring for me

Courtney

Thanks for the heads up. :)

Thanks to Sil for all the matcha, including this one! This one’s level of flavouring is distinctive. The matcha itself smells generically sweet but it’s not a distinctive maple syrup.

I made a cold latte with Silk organic soy milk. I can barely taste the maple? I’m wondering if it has to do with the milk, because I find that this one in particular has a stronger flavour. Nice and sweet, but it seems to make most matchas taste the same. All I got was a generic sweetness and that’s it.

I’m going to have to try it hot, and maybe cold with a different type of milk until I make a final decision about this one.

Courtney

Sometimes I find the flavour of soy milk overpowering. That’s the exact reason I have it with straight matcha – so I only taste soy haha!

Fjellrev

Yeah, seriously! I’d already go with regular cow’s milk but I noticed lately that I seem to be getting a mild touch of lactose intolerance. Soy seems to make everything taste the same.

Courtney

I actually went through that too. It was a little touch and go with milk, but I seem fine now. I didn’t drink it at all for just over 7 months.

Stephanie

I just take lactaids :)

Fjellrev

So weird how it just sneaks up out of nowhere, eh? I’ve considered lactaids but don’t really love milk that much anyway to deal with that haha. Maybe I’ll try cow’s milk again in a month or so.

OMGsrsly

The Silk Almond Milk is pretty good. I’ve been getting the unsweetened. It doesn’t have carageenan in it, which my beloved Almond Breeze has, and might be upsetting my tummy.

Fjellrev

I’ve tried their almond milk too, and while I find it’s better regarding lack of interference with flavours, I’m annoyed by the lack of protein! And it’s still more flavourful to me compared to cow’s milk. Almond Breeze I haven’t had in years but maybe I’ll have to give them another chance.

OMGsrsly

I basically eat meat and veg, so I’m not too worried about protein. :) I’m more interested in the vitamin supplementation.

second really quick matcha latte…..this is maple syrup flavouring to me. It’s not maple syrup in it’s pure form. I took a quick taste from the syrup we have here after drinking this to confirm. it IS damn tasty though, and i can see adding this to other matcha for a delicious maple taste.

Final Count: 138 (which means, dear readers that EVEN with the 13 teas i’m picking up in Florida…i’m only at 151. Not that it counts since they’re not here and my official feb month end is 138…it’s still awesome to know that what will arrive, won’t put me crazily behind in my sipdown goals for March….well at least until the BBB Box arrives lol)

Courtney

WOOT. Good job!

Nicole

Are you picking up some tea from the Grand Floridian, Sil? :) They carry from TeaLeaves.com, I think. At least I know for sure they carry the Eros blend from there which is sooooo nommy. And the tea service there is fabulous.

Lala

I am imagining you taking the cap off of the maple syrup and just taking a gulp from the bottle, so Canadian :P

Sil

i’ll have to check that out nicole :) as it turns out our flights may be cancelled..which on a positive spin means i get to drink more teas today lol

After reading the reviews for this I was absolutely excited to step into the world of Matchas. Even better, maple syrup is my favorite flavor of just about anything. They make maple syrup matcha! What what what!! Being that I am an absolute newbie to the Matcha world, I followed the directions for making a ice brew. I crowned the 2 oz’s of water with 8 oz of vanilla almond milk with a touch of heavy cream. (I can’t drink regular milk) I found it oddly vegetal. Not quite what I expected when past reviews have talked about how amazingly sweet it is. I barely tasted the maple syrup? It might be my taste buds are not used to it, or maybe I prepared it incorrectly. Not sure. I ended up tossing in 1 tbs of maple syrup for good measure and that made all the difference in the world. It really brought all the flavors together. I think I am going to keep on trying the flavored Matchas and see if I can become a pro at preparing them.
