First time getting matcha from the legendary Red Leaf! After much deliberation, I ended up picking the Pumpkin Pie because hey, it’s fall.

You can get it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html

My first adventure into this matcha led to me using too much (1 tsp) by accident—although it was incredibly strong (especially in the spicy note), the powder blended more smoothly than any other I’ve tried. It was really easy to whisk and froth with my bamboo whisk. Also, the color is worth noting—this matcha is so luxuriously green!

My first try, like I said, was a learning experience, but the second time I made it, I used about 1/4 tsp, some hot water, and soymilk. Frothed the matcha and water together, added the soymilk, and BAM! This is fantastic. The pumpkin pie flavor is spot on. I would recommend Delicate for this flavor because of the strength of the spices.

The texture of this is worth noting—in other companies’ matchas I’ve noticed a lot of silty residue toward the end of the bowl. Not so for this one; it’s incredibly smooth and blends perfectly, even when I used 4x the amount I should have by accident. Also, the aroma of the pumpkin and spices is intoxicating!

It’s perfect! Can’t wait to have more matcha-y adventures with this one.

I had to try this. And I’m not unimpressed. Having been a little spoiled by starting with Matchachino before trying the real thing, I wasn’t expecting to like it. I have a lot of trouble with unflavored matcha at this point, but hopefully that will change as I adjust to the flavor. This one though, is very good I’m happy to say. Its easy to drink as well.

That said I have a sample of the eggnog one (I don’t like eggnog even slightly but I was curious and now I’m too nervous to try it). Anyone wanna swap it for a sample of another matcha that they might have?

Last bit of this. SO GOOD. Milk/water mix, hot. NOM.

In the habit of having a milky matcha before my morning coffee lately – pretty great way to start the day, gotta say.

I agree – it’s a great way to start the day!

This is my third time trying a matcha. The first time I had just a basic matcha and prepared it in the traditional way and I did NOT like it. The 2nd time I had white chocolate matcha from Red Leaf and made a hot latte and thought it was pretty tasty. This time I had pumpkin pie matcha and made it into an iced latte using the cocktail shaker method. I like how easy it was to prepare this way and the flavored matcha with ice and sugar and milk was very good! Honestly though, you could add a bunch of milk and sugar to pretty much anything and it would taste good to me, LOL. I’m not sure if its the matcha I like or just the pumpkin flavoring here. shrug

My daughter loves this one, and only this one. I have a large on the way for her now, and I gave her two for Christmas, and she has ordered once since Christmas….yes, she is drinking a lot of this flavor!

It’s pumpkin. It has to be good. Alone, sort of shot-style, it’s spicy, not like hot-spicy but like pumpkin spice spice-y. I stir it into hot milk and then it’s creamy and pumpkin-y. Overall it’s hella better than green tea and hella healthier if what they’re telling me is true. Absolutely rivals the pumpkin spice latte in my opinion due to the fact that it is creamier, lower calorie, and much healthier. I’ve tried two of the other matchas (the berry and the caramel) and this one is better than both to me, however I am a sucker for pumpkin and just finished a big container of roasted salted pepitas from Lowes Foods in three days. When I make it, I pour about a quarter cup of milk into a mug and heat it in the microwave for about twenty seconds, and then whisk a half teaspoon of the matcha powder into it with a fork. Then I fill the mug the rest of the way up with milk and add about a half teaspoon of sugar (naughty, I know, considering plain green adds no calories or sugar to my diet) and then heat it up. It’s very warm and cozy but different from a cocoa and healthier than cocoa, which is a good switch for me because I really go for my cocoa in the wintertime.

Here’s the stuff. It’s worth a shot. At the worst you get some hot rich anti-oxidants. But it’s really good. It’s pumpkin, how could it be bad.

It’s been a while since I have had a flavored match and I forgot how much I love them! This sample has been sitting around for quite some time, but the pumpkin flavors are still shining through. I made a match a smoothie with the rest of this. Ice, soy milk and a little maple syrup. Simple, but I didn’t want anything to drown out the matcha flavors. I need to figure out a way to justify buying more matcha!

Pumpkin Pie is a flavour that pretty much every tea company has done. Usually in the fall, around Thanksgiving. Before trying Red Leaf Tea’s take, my favourite was from Davids Tea. Now I think I may need to reconsider, because:

1. You can get it YEAR ROUND
2. I’m still not tired of it

2) Is very important, because there’s something about other pumpkin pie teas that makes me stop really enjoying them after I’ve had several cups or the season changes. I think it has something to do with the spices— instead of trying to replicate the flavour of pumpkin pie (which can be enjoyed year round, please don’t judge me!), they put in other spices to make it more ‘seasonal’. And that means, when the sun is beating down, and I drink their tea, it’s like I’m transported in front of a fireplace, and that is NOT GOOD.

This tea is simply pumpkin pie. It’s not overly spiced and it’s perfect. I think it would even be good chilled, like pumpkin pie often is. A little milk and it’s like there’s a slice right there in front of you! Enjoy!

My second Red Leaf Teas matcha. The quality is consistent. However, when I was ordering this matcha, I wasn’t really paying attention to what strength of flavor I was ordering, and ended up ordering Robust flavor instead of distinctive, which was the perfect flavor strength for my first matcha, the Bavarian Cream. This matcha, the Pumpkin Pie, is strong. Wicked strong. Eat Pumpkin Pie spice with a spoon kind of strong. I think delicate or distinctive would be perfect for this matcha. Anything else is just too damn…strong. I noticed that some of the options have changed since the last time I ordered. You can’t choose to automatically add the small metal tin to your cart, but it is still available with the rest of the accessories on a different page. Also, you can now choose whether you want your matcha to be organic or not. Personally, I am content with my regular matcha for now. Anywho, let’s get on with this review for the Red Leaf Pumpkin Pie Matcha, which you can find here —> http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html

THE SPECS:
Size: Small (30 grams)
Quality: Royal Grade(Premium)Green Matcha
Flavor Strength: Robust (oops)

So far I like to buy the special sale matchas, which take place between Friday and Sunday of every week. You can also vote on which matcha will be on sale next, which is cool. Buying one of the special sale matchas allows me to upgrade my options, like better quality matcha and stronger flavor, and still keep my order at a reasonable price. As my appreciation for Red Leaf matchas grows into an obsession, though, I have a feeling that attitude will change to a few times a week >.> And trust me, you will become obsessed. On to the flavor itself. Hot damn does this hit you in the face. Not in a bad way, though. Clove, clove, clove. From the smell to the taste, that is what stands at the forefront. Next you can taste some nutmeg and cinnamon, and it all rounds out with a truly pumpkin taste. Essence of pumpkin. As though dried pumpkin was ground up into little tiny bits and added to this. I love that you can really taste the quality in these flavors. This is not just poured out of a bottle.Time is put into mixing these flavors to create a balance. Word to the wise though, unless you are crazy about these spices, Distinctive is going to be the strongest you want to go with this flavor. I’ll remember that next time. I still use this in my smoothie (see Bavarian Cream matcha review for “recipe”),but when using this flavor I like to add a little dollop of real pumpkin to the mix to enhance that flavor, and after pouring into the cup, dusting cinnamon over the top. Delicious!! All in all, I definitely recommend this flavor. I did like the Bavarian Cream matcha better, but I will have to try this one with a toned down flavor.

I enjoyed this a lot because it has lots of flavourful spices. It is a lot like the pumpkin chai from DT. This is also a sipdown.

I can taste a slightly floral, but pleasant green tea matcha base. Cinnamon, pepper, clove, and desserty graham cracker. Overall, not something I need to drink regularly but it is a very good once-in-a-while. Drink this as a latte, it brings out the creaminess and desserty aspects of the matcha.

I’m a bit sad Matcha Outlet (formerly Red Leaf Tea) no longer has all the crazy flavored matchas (this one included) that they once had. I’d always wanted to grab this one and the lavender one and am now sad I didn’t when I had the chance. They only have a few flavored matcha listed now and none of them are terribly unique.

This is an impressive matcha if made correctly and by that I mean offsetting the slight dry taste with just water. I whisked this one up smelling the pumpkin spice which made me happy :)
The taste at first was a bit much so I adjusted it with two teaspoons of milk with a topping of whipped cream.
My mom and I both enjoy this. Adjusted, this is fantastic and I’ll be curious to see if their chocolate matchas are as good because that will sucker me in… chocolate…

i shall try this someday
