From a bakery in Tiburon called Sweet Things. Brewed with entirely way too hot water, ouch!

The tea, once cooled enough to sip, was perfect for the day. The jasmine was natural and allowed the flavor of the tea to come through – fruity, buttery and soft. There was a little bitterness due to the near-boiling water used. The tea was not at all diluted with one sachet to a 12oz paper cup.

I realized I’m missing a jasmine tea from my cupboard. This won’t be the one that finds it way in, but it is a good tea to have when out and about.

Thank you for that Mill Valley snippet. It totally took me into another quite different space as I lie here under a faux fur throw warming my icicle toes.

I forget about jasmine teas and then I have one and am reminded how good a good one can be. Yes, I love them, both green and black.

Just an average Jasmin. Nothing super exciting here.

Jasmine green, a perpetual favorite of mine if done right.

Done right to me means:

1. The jasmine smells and tastes like the essence of flowers rather than a flavoring agent.
2. The jasmine is integrated into the tea, rather than smelling and tasting pasted on.
3. The tea base is both a great delivery vehicle for the jasmine and not completely overpowered by it to the point where it disappears.
4. Extra points for juicy, flowery goodness.

This tea, which is a vibrant, clear golden color after steeping gets high marks on the first three. The underlying tea contributes a soft, buttery aspect to the tea.

It could be juicier. But 3 out of 4 ain’t bad.

On a recent trip to Dean and Deluca, I received a generous sample of this tea from the tea gal there who was really excited that I was so excited about the teas they carry. I was excited that there was someone to geek out on tea with me!

I steeped this for a minute in under boiling water. The beginning of the sip is pretty mellow. There is a bit of jasmine, but not as much of a kick as some other jasmines I have had. When it reaches the back of my tongue, some jasmine bite comes in. The after taste is a strange dance of jasmine and mandarin. They seem to take turns leading and merging for a nice long finish. When I sweeten it, the mandarin comes out more in the beginning of the sip and in the aftertaste. It is almost candy like in the long aftertaste. I love jasmine and this is a really nice alternative to the straight jasmine teas I am used to. I think I may cold brew this one for a second steep and see how it does. I’m guessing it would be quite crisp and refreshing!

If I didn’t have a million different teas right now, I’d be tempted to pick some of this up. In the mean time it will stay on my radar for a later purchase.
