From Mandala Tea

Life begins for this oolong as an Anxi, Fujian spring-picked organic Tie Guan Yin variety. What makes it special is a processing step that exposes the tea to an oxygen-free, nitrogen-rich environment. Originally designed as a food preservation method, this process has the happy effect of boosting the naturally occurring Gamma-AminoButyric Acid content to over 350mg per 100g of tea. GABA is a neurotransmitter responsible for inhibiting overactive firing of neurons in the brain. It is the body’s anti-anxiety mechanism supplemented in the natural form through a drink that is healthy for numerous other reasons, as well.

And you’ll enjoy the flavor. The lightly oxidized leaves give only hints of floral aroma while really delivering on sweet, toasted grain. Some of the more distinctive oolongs have a brilliant caramel or orchid flavor that makes them perfect for a certain mood. This tea strikes us as a great all-occasions beverage because the flavor is such a smooth, integrated whole. Could there be a more pleasant and delicious way to experiment with GABA supplementation for a calm mind?

Well, it was worth a shot. It’s a fine tea, but it just can’t compete in the world of Mandala oolongs. It’s just a little bland and undistinguished. Between that and the inconclusive research on GABA supplementation anyway, I’ll happily stick with their others versions.

GABA Oolong is like Milk Oolong’s older hipster brother. It has that same grassy sort of creaminess to it but it is more assertive with the bitter finish. Not unpleasant at all but a little too floral for my tastes. I think I have to be in a specific mood for this one as I prefer darker oolongs or milk oolong.

Wow! That must have held up fairly well as we haven’t sold that tea in a couple of years. Nice!!!

Hi Garret!! It did hold up extremely well. It may even be a little bit better. It also kept me quite mellow during a long work day :)

I am also planning a very large Mandala order. I have had my eye on some of the newer ripe pu-erhs. Especially Rama Lama and Temple Stairs.

Garret

Those are both teas I drink tons of! Great to hear from you! Let me know if you have any questions. Grateful, Garret

I was very impressed with this tea, its a very complicated tea in that it produces many different floral notes using the gaiwan. It was a medium oxidized tea which I found it was a nice balance. Very high Quality and relaxing beverage. I haven’t tried every sing oolong tea but this one is my favorite.

It seems I am not destined to get early sleep tonight so I might as well have tea/ Picked this one in the hopes the Gaba will relax me. This is a tasty oolong with very little bitterness at all. It tastes better than last time. This time I gave it only a one minute steep. After a trip to the urgent care center because I was suddenly ill I need to relax. On top of that I had to take a cab there because I had already taken my Ambien for the night and I can’t drive on that.

I steeped this once in an 18oz teapot with 3 tsp leaf and 190 degree water for 1 min.

Hope you feel better! Did the GABA help?

AllanK

I have been feeling better today. I am just hoping it holds. I was able to sleep so at least the tea didn’t keep me up. The GABA may have helped.
