I’ve been drinking this for a long time and bought another package yet again. I love it because it allows me to brew tea with very little fuss, it lasts forever and there is variety.
I would highly recommend it.

I just got this item from Mandala Tea and it is a lovely collection. The teas are distinctly different and I am hoping to find out which teas specifically are included so I can add a more comprehensive review. Very fun way to learn about Pu’er tea. Also it would seem that each mini brick can make from 6-8 cups of tea.

Ashmanra’s sipdown challenge – May 2023 Tea #5 – May 11 – National Eat What You Want Day

The most distinct thing I can describe of the mini tuocha I steeped today, it looks like there is a brown sunflower on the wrapper. I thought I had found that using two of this tiny tuochas really works best with this particular tuocha, and I really wanted to use two of them, so that is what I did (points to the prompt for today).  Rich deliciousness.  Not a sipdown. However, it looks like this one isn’t even on Steepster. So I was mistaking this tuocha for the Lao Cang. Oh well, you can’t really go overboard with ripe puerh but I will have to try a single tuocha at some point, rather than two.

edited to add: Some actual FLAVOR notes since I haven’t written any for this specific tuocha yet. It has a nice unoffensive flavor! Deep, rich, no negative qualities, a little biscuity. I do not regret accidentally steeping two of these at the same time! Rating: 92. But again, I have to try a single tuocha, since I have a sneaking suspicion I love overleafing the ripe!

Three more remaining. Kept the little wrappers and am still trying to match them to product. I think it’s a great way to try ripe Pu-erh. I “think” I’m getting used to the leather taste. By the 3rd or 4th steep, I enjoy it much more.

The one I’m trying right now is the Lao Cang Ripe Mini Tocha. I think lol. Update: I liked this one, as it progressed it really mellowed to a sweeter (not sugary), creamier tea. I stopped after the 8th steep which is when the flavor dropped off.

One mini tuocha, 212˚F, 8 steeps: rinse, 25s, 35s, 45s, 55s, 65s, 75s, 85s, 95s

Your reviews date back a long time ago. :)

I need to rectify that issue. Need to post on what I am drinking currently for sure.

I was really looking forward to having some shu tonight and thought it would be fun to try the little pink tuochas in this package. Based on the paper wrapping, they should be Mandala’s 2012 Lang Cang rice scented ripe mini tuos. I steeped it up and yes, they have to be rice scented, because I got this very strong rice scent wafting from the liquid. It smells amazing, kinda like sweet rice that is a bit burnt. The flavor in the early steeps came on too strong for me and I got this sickly sweet rice flavor, with some floral notes. I looked it up and I guess it’s scented with an herb that smells like rice….interesting. After a few steeps, I started to like it more as the rice flavor melded better with the puerh. It even started to taste caramel-like. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, but I’m glad to have tried it. Now I know!

I’m looking forward to playing with these. I love the convenience, and when the mini tuochas are actually good it’s such a huge bonus!

Tealizzy

Totally! I found the rice scented ones were smelling up the package though, so I double-bagged them…just FYI. Looking forward to your reviews!

Cheri

I should pull those out then. Thanks for the warning!
