From Lupicia

We are happy to announce the arrival of our Christmas seasonal tea, JINGLE BELLS: A black tea scented with refreshing grapes and fruity sparkling wine. Sweet and lightly fruity, this tea is popular as an iced tea. Only available in limited quantity

Colorful, rhythmic, bright and fun! This year’s design depicts the movement of people, animals, plants, and objects interacting. A flowing heart-shaped outline of the words “Bisous de Noël” (Christmas kisses) expresses the image of warm, affectionate feelings connecting during the holiday season. If you hear the sound of bells, it’s the beginning of a fun time, as Santa runs around the world with many gifts! How about a toast with this gorgeous tea on a holiday night to the sound of bells?

Ingredients: Black tea, heath flower, flavorings

So, I was working on my review of this when my phone decided to refresh the page for me. It’s not at all easy to type on here, especially when the touch screen refuses to cooperate. I was thinking about the other teas that I tried from Lupicia that were also grape flavored.

The three teas all smell like Kasugai gummies, which I like. It’s slighly artificial in that it reminds me more of the candy than the fruit. The black tea base makes it more subtle, but it isn’t a very bitter tea. The grape is more of a hint than a full flavor.

I find this tea more agreeable than the decaf Muscat, but miss the jasmine in Napa Blanc. I think grape tastes better in green tea, though it could be even better in oolong. It is rather pleasant, though comparably as subtle as Carol. It doesn’t remind me as much of princesses or little girls in Victorian children’s novels.

Summer. Ugh.
My significant other and myself have a merry little argument about which is worse, excessive heat or excessive cold. He maintains that winter is the worst, and that he hates to be cold more than anything. But his level of whining when its hot gives lie to that.
I maintain that summer is the worst, especially around here. The sky is painful, and there is nothing you can do, when you are outside, to make things cooler for yourself. Its all suffering all the time. In the winter there are sweaters, and scarves, and tea. Warming up is easier than cooling down.
This is my round about way of saying its going to be 105 today, and so I’m drinking this fruity cup of tea, and then resigning myself to a fate of no tea for most of the rest of the day.
Bleh.

Sil

I’m with you. give me cold versus hot any day. ESP when you get hot and humid. ugh

Evol Ving Ness

Maddy Barone

I’m with you. It gets darned cold here in the winter, but I LOVE to put on my sweats or flannel and curl up to read with a cup of hot tea. I HATE heat and humidity. Either alone is torture. Put them together, and you feel like you’re living in Satan’s armpit.

Indigobloom

I’ll take the heat pls!

Rosehips

I’m probably biased because I don’t live somewhere that gets really cold. (Its never snowed here), but the heat is blistering.

Sil

i’ve lived in -40 celcius weather and this humid armpit of +40 celcius…and i will take the frigid cold every time.

Maddy Barone

Sorry Indigobloom looks like you’re in the minority. But I think you’re lucky to be able to enjoy what many others hate.

And Rosehips 105 is quite unusual for North Dakota, but not unheard of. Our average high in July is like 84. Which is 15 degrees warmer than I like. Not that I’m dying for the -30 F, but -10 sounds nice.

Dexter

I’m with Indigobloom – will take the heat over the cold anytime. I don’t understand easier to warm up than cool off. Once I’m cold – like really cold, there is no warming up, shivering sitting in a scalding hot bath – cooling off is easy – any store here is so cold you are instantly an ice cube, shade takes the edge off the sun, cold drinks, ice – lots of options. I understand to each their own, and what you consider extreme temps. In my world -40C + windchill is not uncommon, +30C plus humidity is also not uncommon.

Indigobloom

YES! What Dexter says. Cooling off? much easier than warming up, and I can still think straight. If my teeth are chattering, I get sleepy and fidgety. Plus I really do love being warm. It doesn’t get too hot for my tolerance very often. Heck I’ve been drinking both hot and cold tea this summer, depending on my mood… usually not the weather :)

Pretty sure this one was from kittenna this one is potent – super grape smell. brewed up, this is grapey but there’s a floral scent under it. it tastes like a floral sort of champagne like tea. I LOVE the smell but the taste of this one is better in the after taste than in the actual sip. lol Not a fan but i’m glad to have tried it.

TeaLady441

I’m totally the same way with this. I wish it just tasted like it smells.

Holy grape. I can see why this managed to contaminate VariaTEA’s other Lupicia teas, because it is POTENT. However, it’s also pretty good (though won’t make it into my top teas… just not that big of a fan of grape). Anyhow, I found it to be quite a juice tea – the black base was pretty tame, so the grape was all that I really perceived. And it was a pretty nice, true version of grape, not that bubblegum clone that sometimes is passed off as grape. Overall, happy enough with this, but I’m glad I only have 25g :)

Grapes and….bitter astringency. Another failed experiment. I think I may just stop trying to brew black teas here.

Sil

or just do it with bottled water :(

VariaTEA

That’s what my mom suggested as well. That just seems like such a costly way to make tea though.

rosebudmelissa

You can buy gallon jugs of water for much less than smaller bottles. Or you could look into a good filter. I’ve had good luck with ZeroWater

Terri HarpLady

When I visit my looks in FL every cup of tea sucked. The tap water was very sulphurous :p
Bottled water made my teas better, but taste flat/dull
They finally got a decent water purifier, so my most recent visit was much improved!

VariaTEA

Thank goodness it is not just me who experienced this with teas in Florida. I was planning to get a lot of sipdowns in but now I am most likely going to save a lot of the teas to take home with me and try them there instead.

Sadly this was the last of the sample from Cameron B. but I’ve still got all of VariaTEA’s sample left to go through. And, I was going to save this for New Years because of the champagne aspect, but I wound up forgetting and didn’t have any champagne themed tea on NYE! Darn it! Instead I rang in the New Year with a totally random tea (which I’ll write about later).

Similarly to last time, this tasted very sweet and candy like. It kept bringing up images of Grape Crush but less artificial/chemical tasting. Same sweetness, though. I found the champagne was maybe a little less present in this cup than in that first one; though I suppose the “bubble” aspect of Champagne may have been part of what was pulling my mind towards soda. Subconsciously, anyway.

Still loved this one; but having had it twice now I can say with some confidence that I want a little more base to be present; it just feels so covered up by the very lush grape flavouring. That’s part of why I could probably keep some of this one and Niagara Ice Wine on hand though; both are very “purple” grape teas but the latter has a more even ratio of flavouring and base.

Cameron B.

Let me know if you want more of this, I have a whole 50g and I doubt I’ll get through it myself. :)

Roswell Strange

Don’t tempt me :P

Kittenna

Haha, I’m not overly fond of it tbh. Too much grape.

Sipdown! (23 | 432)

Yay, another oldest tea down! This tin was from November of 2017. I think I only have two more 2017 teas left! Granted, that’s not saying much, but still a nice milestone to see.

This is one of Lupicia’s lovely grape teas. It reminds me of a combination of grape Hi-Chew and Welch’s sparkling red grape juice. I love those sparkling juices at holiday meals, and will definitely be partaking at Thanksgiving time! So to me, this has a rich, almost slightly winey grape flavor with a sweet candy edge to it. I adore Japanese grape candy flavoring, so the somewhat artificial quality of it doesn’t bother me. The base is rather earthy, which I actually like as it cuts the sweetness a bit. Not a hint of bitterness here either, even though the leaf is somewhat fine.

A lovely tea! Happily, I still have a couple of other grape creations from Lupicia in my cupboard. :3

However did grape take them to jingle bells?

Cameron B.

“Scented with refreshing grapes and fruity sparkling wine. Great for a family get-together during the holiday.”

A bit of a stretch, but at least it’s original. ;)

Dustin

Because grapes and bells are sort of the same general shape?

I love the grape flavor of this tea, and the champagne gives in a brightness that’s really refreshing. I usually buy a few bags when it’s available for a limited time around Christmas.

In addition to Devilish’s review, “a black tea scented with refreshing grapes and fruity champagne” is the description that Lupicia had on the sampler tin that I purchased as part of their holiday teas pack. It’s a great citrusy black tea — not too aciditic at all. The grape notes in this tea do wonders to lift the darkness of the tea. I could’ve done with a little less sweetness.

I didn’t know that they put some ‘yogurt’ in this tea! lol BTW this winter holiday tea taste like a ‘winter holiday tea’. Very sweet. I usually prefer straight tea so I don’t drink this tea that much, but I sometimes drink this for milk tea. Quiet lovely tea I guess.
