Again I just can’t bring myself to put this in boiling water. (not sure why since this is the second green I’ve noticed that Lupicia states to brew this in boiling water…) So I did my normal steeping for greens. This is pretty good. Not my favorite gemaicha with matcha, but its not bad in any way. It’s just missing something for me I am not sure what though…..

Note to self. Stay away from this Genmaicha.. Any matcha+genmaicha tea with a 71 average rating is just terrible.

Zephyr

haha I agree. It’s not horrible though its just not the best genmaicha I’ve had either.

Backlog!

So, the hubby and I finally tried this one last night. I was in the mood for green tea, but I was despairing that our green tea stash is so low on variety… and then I remembered that we had gotten this one in the “happy bag!” It smelled so grassy/grainy, very hay- or wheat-like, that we just had to try it.

So glad we did! It steeped a wonderful lime-y green color (the hubby likened it to lime Kool-Aid), and it smelled of popcorn and matcha and wheatgrass. The taste was just what I wanted—fresh, light, and savory, like a smoothie made with green vegetables. Yum!

Disclaimer: this is my first time trying any sort of genmaicha.

I was watching a hockey game and Michigan was on a power play, so I ended up steeping this a little too long, for three whole minutes. I suggest about half of that time, but for being oversteeped, it wasn’t too bitter. Because Lupicia listed this as one of the tea latte possibilities, I was expecting something somewhat sweet esp. with matcha, but it was more like a comforting food type of drink. Reminds me of asian snacks and sesame oil. Not my favorite, but would be a good mealtime tea. So, I wonder how it stands up to milk and sugar?

Added: Now I see that Lupicia suggests mere thirty seconds. No wonder I’m tasting some bitterness. Since I have a whole 2oz bag, I will try it properly next time. Keeping the rating rather neutral for now…

The matcha adds a bit of sweetness to this wonderful rice japanese tea. The colour is lovely too and comes out a nice light green. This is a brilliant tea indeed.

So Lupicia’s Hawaii online store is soon to open up. I hope they will sell this one.

Their mixture of Kirara and matcha is a tasty one. The little popped rice bits are bright green, dusted with matcha, along with the sencha leaves. It’s an interesting looking tea. Looks almost fluorescent. It smells of toasted rice (imagine that :P) and light sweetness, some grass. The liquor has a very toasty-roasty aroma. The wet leaves are bright green and you can see the little rice bits have all their green dust washed off and they are reddish brown. It’s medium-bodied, with a nice lingering naturally sweet rice finish. I didn’t find it bitter and there was no astringency, but yet it had the consistent and typical characteristics of a good warm cup of green tea. Recommended if you like kirara rice and matcha.

tea-sipper

This is a good one… I have a really really old harvest of this. haha. Poor tea.

Kawaii433

tea-sipper, there is an expiration date that I’m trying to beat on this one (and some of their other greens)… I have a few Lupicia’s that I have till July. I’m afraid to ask you what “really old” is for you. haha :D

tea-sipper

yeah… it’s probably best not to ask. :D

Oooooooo, I kinda like this one! It has this nice savory flavor to it in a way where I’d expect it to be a little salty. I get a deep toasted rice flavor on the sip that pairs well with the bright grassy notes that take over the aftertaste. It is super smooth without any bitterness. This was a sample in a tea bag and I wonder if/how a cup would differ in loose leaf since there seems to be a mix of things in there that may separate in a tin. Either way, I could see keeping a tin of this on hand!

A decent green-rice tea. This has more rice flavor than others I have tasted but it is good. Tastes like toasted brown rice with the green tea in the background.

I liked the second steeping better than the first, and got five flavored steeps out of this. Bright yellow-green liquor, toasty rice flavors.
