A wonderful black tea with balanced rose and strawberry flavours. Personally, I find it perfect as it is. Sweet without being cloying, and smooth aftertaste.

I’m terribly hungover from New Years festivities so naturally turned to a tea sample that I knew would taste the closest to a fruity wine. I’m a glutton for punishment. I was lying down while drinking this (may or may not affect the taste/my general authority). The predominant flavors are grape and strawberry. Super smooth and flavorful. Would recommend for those looking to purge their bodies of the sins from nights past.

I had this a few days ago and I very much enjoyed the combination of fruity, wine-esque flavour with the black base. The rose was a wisp of freshness added to the loveliness. I wouldn’t hesitate to have another cuppa if the opportunity presented itself.

UPDATE: I steeped 5 grams of the tea per 150 ml of water and left in the refrigerator overnight and noticed a noticeable difference. I thought the strawberry and rosé flavors were more vibrant and clear when served chilled. However, next time around I think I will increase the amount of tea per ml of water to make a stronger tea.

ORIGINAL: Tried this tea in bag form and steeped per Lupicia’s guidelines (150 ml of boiling water, 3 minutes).

I was expecting the tea to be a little sweeter based on the smell of the bag and the sugar crystals, but found the sugar to be very subtle. The strawberry and rosé were there but they came off like a gummy candy to me and’m still not sure how I feel about that with a black tea base. I think it would have worked better with a white or green tea.

I did notice that I found the taste to be more pleasant as the cup cooled down, so I will test to see how this tastes iced.

I had the craaaaaaziest day yesterday! I got not one, but two makeovers yesterday. First was one with Dior at the department store since I signed up for some event. I still feel bad complaining, but it ended up being awful. The makeup I did for myself in the morning was by far nicer. I still had things to do for the rest of the day and was feeling so self-conscious that I ran crying to Sephora and asked if I could get a VIB Rouge makeover, something you can do pretty much anytime as a Rouge but I haven’t done it before. They luckily fit me in in an hour and I ended up with the most awesome freaking dramatic eyes ever.

But now that life is calm again this morning, I am able to sit down with a cup of tea. This one smells like grape and strawberry, straight up. Sweet and sparkly but not necessarily wine per se. Like the other black teas of theirs that I’ve tried thus far, it can easily go crazily bitter but this second cup turned out relatively smooth and not too bold. The grape note is by far the most prominent, whilst the strawberry gets buried underneath. To note, the grape note tastes like grape pop, not fresh grape. But I kind of like that. Fake but nice fake.

OMGsrsly

Oh geez. I had a department store makeover once as part of a morning event, and they put so much eyeliner all around my eyes it was horrible. I, uhh, went into the washroom and washed it off with some of the stuff from the gift bag…

Fjellrev

Haha good that you had stuff to wash it off with. My mom described my first makeover as something you would do for a little girl. And that the eyeshadow job made my eyes look sad. It was for an event too, so needless to say, I won’t be wasting my time with those anymore.

OMGsrsly

Haha. Yeah. Free stuff is sometimes nice (if you get a gift bag) but the makeup just doesn’t always work out. :)

For all those who have been wondering – yes, this is Champagne Rose under a different name. Most of Lupicia’s teas are the same in Japan and overseas, but they’ve been providing slightly different versions of Champagne Rose for years (I think because of an import issue with the pearlescent pink and silver dragées in the Japanese version, which are banned in some US states).

A few months ago, they finally pulled Champagne Rose from their site altogether. After a bit of a wait, their “signature” tea is back at last…but under a new name, to differentiate the domestic and overseas versions. “Champagne Rose” for the Japanese version with dragées, and “Rose Royal” for the overseas version without.

Fortunately, it’s still the same light and lovely flavor of strawberries and champagne, with a hint of rose, that got me hooked on Lupicia’s flavored teas to begin with. This was my first Lupicia purchase, some eight years ago, and it’s still among my favorites. A bright, elegant flavored black tea, good with milk and a touch of sweetener or on its own merits. As the Bard said, a rose by any other name…

Aha, the first 100 degree day of the year. It begins. Blehhhhh.
So its time to embrace the fruity, floral and otherwise “light” tea blends I own, to help me through this miserable time.
I remembered something about this one too late- namely that a light steep is critical for it. Too long in the water and it gets a bitter edge, as it did this morning.
Alas. But what can I expect from the first day of summer misery?

Fjellrev

100?! I would die.

Fjellrev

And thank you for calling that summer misery. I know so many people who just looooove the heat, and think the hotter the better.

Rosehips

Oh I can’t stand it. I was raised in a warm place, but every year I am an unhappy ball of misery. I hate this weather. Bring back the cold!

gmathis

I always thought it grossly unfair that when it’s 10 degrees, staying inside and canceling activities is perfectly acceptable, but when it’s 100, the weather is not considered inclement enough to scratch plans and stay in :)

Evol Ving Ness

Summer misery—-ouf! We had a taste of the upcoming humidity last week. I wilted.

Fjellrev

Excellent point, gmathis! Apparently heat exhaustion isn’t a big deal.
