The 15th tea from The Book of Tea – I am halfway through, yay! :D

Darjeeling is my favourite black tea, so it’s not surprising that I love Earl Grey Darjeeling. The liquor has a beautiful honey colour. Love the bright aroma of bergamot… it smells so good that I wish it could be made into a perfume. The flavour of bergamot is strong but not overpowering, so you can still taste the floral undercurrents of lovely Darjeeling. I know I should not consume black tea before going to bed, but this is such a satisfying cup of tea that I am willing to stay up for another hour because of it!!

I love Earl Grey and I love Darjeeling. This seemed to be an interesting combination of the two so I opted to try it.

The tea leaves have heavy smell of bergamot, which is to be expected.
The brewed tea has the aroma of a traditional Earl Grey as is the flavor, except that it finishes with a Darjeeling flavor at the end.

It’s a decent, every day tea, when you want something traditionally English. I paired this with cookies/biscuits and it complimented the baked goods well. I probably won’t use this tea as a “tea tasting” or for when I just want to experience complex flavors of a tea.

My first cup of this was yummy, but I had steeped it very lightly and noticed a really strong bergamot odor/flavor. So I made a mental note to steep it even more lightly next time. Then I made the horrible mistake of trying to brew a POT of this, and the bergamot flavor was so strong I almost wanted to throw up. It became known as The Pot That Almost Put Me Off of Earl Grey Forever, and my friends are still trying to put me through Earl Grey rehab because of it. I have renamed this tea “Bergamot Bomb” and hold out hope that, someday, I’ll be able to enjoy normal Earl Grey again…

The best Earl Grey I’ve had so far. Given that I love Earl Grey, that’s no small statement. No extra flavors, just a very solid classic EG. Enjoyable straight (hot/iced), but also makes a great milk tea. Would also recommend using in cooking for tea flavored desserts.

So, I went to go visit my friend Allie who lives in Sunnyvale yesterday. It was raining all day, so we decided to keep to indoor activities. I’d never bothered looking up tea stores near her before, and I discovered that there is a Lupicia only 15 minutes from her (although, not for long, as we learned from the sales associate that they will be closing soon). I wound up buying a few teas for myself and a few for her. This was one that I bought for her, but we sampled them each when we got back to her house. Honestly, the Darjeeling was lovely and the bergamot was lovely, but I’m not sure I’m crazy for the combination. The others seemed to like it more than I, though.
