I have a very tentative relationship with oolongs. We have not come to a general understanding are are still treading around the edges. That said, I’m probably not the best person to rate or review them. I’m glad to try them, but I feel lacking in understanding and appreciating the bulk of them. This once seems okay. I’m not getting the cardboard flatness that I usually find plaguing oolongs. It’s smooth and I can get a hint of caramel in it. There isn’t much more to it that I can find. It’s something I’m able to sip without thinking much of or being distracted by it.
Thanks goes out to AmandaStory for sending a sample of this tea!

I feel the same with oolongs. I almost always get a mineral/cardboard and can’t seem to get on board.

I keep trying, but I fear I’ll never come to an understanding with them. :/

Advent Calendar Day 12

Another new-to-me tea company with a tea blend that is 100% up my alley! I love a good caramel tea oolong feels like the perfect base with its smooth, buttery mouthfeel. While not the best one I’ve ever had, this one was really nice! The base tea is a pretty dark roasted oolong, which brings some depth and nuttiness to the flavor, the mouthfeel is super rich and creamy, and there’s definitely some caramel flavor going on, though I wouldn’t mind some more! May try sweetening this one or even making it as a latte to see if I can pull out more of that caramel deliciousness.

That sounds absolutely scrumptious.

I’m actually enjoying this much more than I did originally, so I’m upping my score a bit. The oolong is on the darker side of the oolong spectrum, with just a little minerality. The caramel is coming across as cookie/caramel, and not the oily butter that I got in the first cup.

This came my way from AlexaK, so thank you!

It reminds me a lot of the Creamy Caramel Oolong from Tealish. The first sip was very much tea-ja-vu to me.

The oolong is a little nutty and just a touch toasty, and the caramel adds a small amount of butteriness and sweetness. It suffers from the same issues as the Tealish one, though. While the oolong pairs well with the flavors the caramel was offering, I wish the caramel aspect was louder. As it stands, this could almost be an unflavored oolong with caramel/burnt sugar notes and not a luscious buttery caramel flavored oolong.
