From Ketlee

Ketlee is proud to bring you the most rare and unique teas from various corners of India. This time, we bring you Orthodox Village Style Smoked Black tea from Manipur. Made from ancient plants(yes, again!), our Orthodox Smoked Black Tea is the original and traditional tea prepared and consumed by the hill artisans over the centuries.

This is a strong and dark tea with a senational smoky flavour and an extra strong caffeine punch. The distinct smoky flavour makes it a very unique tasting tea, it has a slight touch of Pu’erh and are quite similar to Singhpo’s Falap Coins but unlike them these are in a convenient to use Loose Leaf form.

Processing : This tea is handpicked, withered, hand-rolled, oxidised, sundried and then smoked in forest firewood. The rolled leaf will not be fully sun dried and the complete drying will take place on top of the kitchen fireplace for several days until the desired smokiness level is achieved.

Appearance : Deep Copper Red

Taste : Smoke, muscatel, raisins, peppermint

Grade : Wild Gushu Spring Harvest 2019

Gongfu!

I usually stick with Lapsang in my smokey boy dragon yixing pot but this is so similar/in the same vain that I figured I’d add it to the mix as well. It was a very, very good session. I 100% cannot resist trying a new smoked tea, so this was a huge inspiration for this order in the first place – I’m glad it worked out.

This one is taking me to some deeply nostalgic places. When I was a small kid one of my favourite parts about camping was dousing the fire with water at the end of the night and dancing and twirling through the smoke and steam – something about the combination of fresh clean water and earth mixed with the soft smoke notes brought me comfort, even then. I find the taste of this smoked black mirrors a lot of those smells and sensations. Gentle & clean woodier smoke with undertones of red fruit meets this sweet rain & petrichor sort of vibe, and it’s just so relaxing!
