Sipdown! (4 | 256)

So I actually just ordered this tea for the tin… I really like their Cream Earl Grey, but they don’t offer that blend in a tin, so I looked through some of the ones they do sell in tins and chose this tea. I actually got the sachets, partially because I didn’t want 90 grams of tea to sip through, and partially because their tea bag tins are super pretty, with a sort of tie dye effect to them (vs. the loose leaf tins, which are solid). Anyway, all that to say now I can put my Cream Earl Grey in this tin, huzzah! \o/

This is a very nice Earl grey. The Kenyan black tea is very smooth, yet it’s strong enough to stand up to the bergamot and give a malty backbone and nice thick body. The bergamot is more on the citrusy side rather than floral, which I appreciate. There’s actually an interesting sweet and fruity note going on, I guess it must be from the bergamot oil they used. The slight sweetness does help soften the sharper citrus notes nicely.

Would definitely recommend for those who drink plain Earl grey. Also their Cream Earl Grey is delicious as well! My only complaint about this tea is the teabags – they use paper pyramid teabags, which I love, but the tags are glued on, and more than once I tore a hole in the paper trying to unstick the tag…

Came across a tin of this in the kitchen of where I am staying. Nice malty backbone. The bergamot is strong but does not assault like some do. Earl Grey just the way I like it.

I added milk because hooray for a functioning fridge!

And how is everyone coping in these strange and bewildering days?

Martin Bednář

Sounds cozy.
And how do I cope? Well, being glued to my chair and screen, trying to finish last semester of university (undergrad). Tired of distant learning. At first, it was a good change, I was much more into lectures, but now it’s rather annyoing.

Evol Ving Ness

I am so glad to not be a student or a teacher in these times. Too much of the same thing everyday. I appreciate studies much more when I need to get up, get dressed, and go somewhere away from home, even when commuting is a pain.

Martin Bednář

I had so many time idea showing up in PJs only to the online lecture, but inner me said: “Would you show up to actual lecture like this?” and I decided not to do that. Of course, exams are different story and luckily, I didn’t had to wear suit while being examined online.

I am trying to be active, and teachers are glad for that, but being almost only one who responds is terrible feeling.

Evol Ving Ness

Good for you!

But for most people motivation is a huge factor.

I almost had this tea today. I’m glad you found a tin of it!

Evol Ving Ness

It’s really good. I like it a lot. I don’t tend to reach for Earl Grey’s all that often, but love them when I do. The good ones anyway.

Yesterday morning I woke up early.
It was chilly in the house and I knew I needed a good strong, hot cuppa.
Since I was sleeping over at my boyfriend’s house, I didn’t have my full cupboard.
Lucky for me, I did bring Justea’s Earl Grey.
It had been quite awhile since I’d had a cup, but when I popped the lid off the tin….
Ahhhhh, heaven in a sniff.
I enjoyed my morning brew so much, I ended up having 3 more cups through the day.
It’s a lovely, well-balanced Earl Grey.
Not too bitter or astringent, and just enough bergamot to be tasted but not overwhelming.
I remember why this is my favorite.

A sample from Miss B! I adore Kenyan black tea, and I have vivid memories of Butiki’s Kenya Obsidian, which was probably the last one I drank. I pretty much relied on it just before Christmas – it woke me up and got me through the day. My first sip of this one brings those memories right back, because it’s the base tea that’s front and centre initially. It’s robust, malty, strong – a lot of the things I really appreciate in black tea. It’s not bitter, or drying, or too tannic, though, and that’s a welcome discovery.

The bergamot is the second fiddle here. It’s quite gentle, but strikes a good balance between fruity and floral without being overpowering, bitter, or just plain fake-tasting. Bergamot isn’t always my favourite thing, but I feel quite at home with this one. When it’s at its best, I find Earl Grey soothing and relaxing – it’s something about the scent, I think, paired with the lightly brisk flavour. This one smells of sunshine, but it’s a tamer beast than some in terms of taste. Perfect for me, then. Plus, that base…

Definitely one of the best EGs I’ve tried recently.

I enjoyed this, despite being very peculiar about bergamot and levels of bergamot. I put milk in it, as I do all earl greys, and it was light but flavorful.

Kenyan is just like Assam in the fact that to my taste buds, it is better thrown into the trash.

This is a definite morning EG, not a mid-afternoon cup. The base is incredibly robust and malty with mild astringency (and takes a shorter steep better than a longer one). They bergamot is crisp, vibrant and citrusy.

I could definitely seeing this taking milk and sweetener well!

Overall it’s a tasty cup that covers every thing an EG should be with a side of ‘POW’ to the face.

This is bright and sweet and very lemony—there’s something almost candy-like about the lemon, though it’s in no way artificial. The base is smooth and works well with the crispness of the bergamot. This is one I’d definitely consider picking up when I need to replenish my Earl Grey stash, and from a company I’d like to support too. Thanks for the sample, Nicole_Martin (I think)!

From the Round 3 Here’s Hoping TTB

I don’t know if it’s because it was in a TTB or if there is some other factor, but the bergamot flavor is completely
missing from my cup. After looking at other’s thoughts on this tea I realize that this isn’t normal for this EG, so I’m not going to give this a rating right now. I will say that the base tea is very nice. A little brisk, but it has nice body.

My eyes weren’t focusing too well this morning when I grabbed this packet not noticing the clearly written Earl Grey on it…so the strong whoof of bergamot caught me off guard. Lemon Pledge furniture polish strong. So I was a little suspicious from the get-go. Fortunately, it doesn’t steep as perfumey as it smells, though it was definitely floral bergamot rather than lemony bergamot. You EG folks will enjoy this.

Veronica

I like the sound of this one! On to my shopping list it goes.

Loved this one. Lemon Pledge Bahhh! Glorious bergamot!

I keep trying to like EG. Really. I feel so disloyal when I don’t.
