From Ito En

Brewed from premium Japanese loose tea leaves, Sencha Shot uses an advanced, deeper brewing method that yields both a high content of natural catechin tea antioxidants and a more full-bodied green tea taste.

Saw this today at the Fresh Market on sale 2 for $2, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. This is actually pretty dang good, folks! Very good for bottled green tea. It is VERY strong, grassy, and a little nutty. Tastes just like I brewed up some strong sencha and chilled it myself. Color me impressed!

If you are on the go and love unsweetened green tea, give it a try!

I bought one of these a few weeks ago. It was very good. I’m definitely planning on keeping a couple of these around.

I was not entirely sure what to expect with this, but I needed a pick-me-up around lunch time, and with the heat wave, this seemed easiest to enjoy. The can does not really have any directions, instructions, suggestions, or really anything about the product you are about to consume. I knew it was Sencha tea, I knew it was cold, I knew it was unsweetened, and that’s about it.

I shook the tea, hoping that I was combining it, and insodoing, it frothed and foamed up so that the can felt dense and undesirable. This terrified me. I cracked the can open to find that it was not thick, though it was rather thin, amber yellow in color and smelled not-so-great. With the help of my co-workers, we bravely dared to drink the little shots we poured out of it.

You could not taste the smell, much like pu-erh, it was just an aroma, which was good news. The flavor was crisp and rich, definitely green tea, with the boldness and body recognized as sencha tea. Overall, this was pretty good, I am glad I gave it a try. I cannot say I was truly energized from the Sencha Shot, however, I did feel almost immediately better.

Happy drinking!

Grabbed this while I was out and about today. Sharply grassy with a tart astringency that was not unpleasant. The last sip had some bitterness, but for as bright and sharp tasting as this was, it was remarkably unbitter. Not something that I’d want in my pantry (I prefer sweeter senchas) but really good for grabbing while at the grocery store.

I saw this in Wegmans. I think I’m gonna grab one next time I’m there.

The same brand has an Oolong shot which is a little roastier than what I prefer but still pretty good. If they have that too, I’d recommend trying both. They are pretty good for grab and go!

Since I’d tried the oolong shot recently, I thought I’d give this a go. It’s good, too! This one seemed less necessary to be so cold, but still ideal that way. It was a rare canned tea that actually tasted exactly as I would hope it should taste. If anything, it was on the toasty end of sencha, which is awesome for me. I’m glad to have tried these Ito En shots!

Tasting Notes:
Steeped Tea Smell: a very strong vegetal odor, sharp
Flavor: smooth, vegetal
Body: Full
Aftertaste: very astringent, bitter this needs a chaser

I don’t like greens, and no surprise, I did not like this canned sencha.

I purchased this while grocery shopping, I want to have ready to drink teas at work in my lunch. I had this at lunch, so it was cold as my lunch was kept refrigerated.

Perhaps the batch I got was off but this was bitter, sour, and barely tasted like green tea. The sell by was next year and I put it in the fridge the same day. I only had it once but if 45 cents more gives me a more surefire on-the-go tea, I’d rather play it safe.

…Then again, this is the only sencha bottled tea availble to me. Confustigated grocery constriction….

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I loved these. Very strong, but not like oversteeped sencha, it was more like a super-concentrated taste. Some astringency, but not really too bitter. Definite strong vegetal flavor typical of sencha.

I really like these as a quick pick-me-up on warm afternoons or mornings (I lived in Florida for a while where it is too hot out for hot tea by 7am). It is nice to just pound a cold shot really fast, much better than an acidic and sweet energy drink. It’s not world-class tea but what do you expect out of a tiny can?

I found these at Big Lots for $.50/can and I wish I had bought out their entire supply while they were still available.

Picked this up at a local grocery recently. I wasn’t expecting too much of a canned tea, though it did turn out better than expected. It’s a decently smooth and energizing sencha with an umami undertone, and no excessive grassiness or off-ness that comes with overbrewing. There is, however, a noticeable bitterness. It’s convenient as a cold and unadulterated drink of tea when you’re not able to brew your own, but doesn’t otherwise stand out.

World Market snag. Good stuff; better, imo, than reaching for a red bull. Does what it says on the tine, cold strong sencha; nice as well.
