From Herbal Infusions

At first we started off this blend of Formosa Oolong with just lemon, but soon Dan decided that his love of grapefruit (pink specifically) should be shared in this tea. We then added freshly peeled organic pink grapefruit rind and created a fantastically balanced and refreshing Oolong tea that we are sure you’ll love.

Backlog:

The oolong tea has an earthy flavor, with notes of toasty nut which adds a compelling contrast to the sweet-tart flavors of the citrus fruit. The citrus notes were bright and lovely.

The second infusion is better than the first, so this is one you definitely want to resteep!

Dexter3657 sent me an amazing package of teas! I appreciate it so so much! I can’t even say! thank you! This will be the first to try of many. All of the fruity teas smelled so lovely! I wasn’t sure how to steep Formosa oolong, so I did a search and the teas that actually had steep instructions said boiling at 3-4 minutes. That seemed too high, but I thought I’d try it anyway. As dry leaves, this one had such a lovely sweet citrusy aroma and the flavor is the same. The flavor of the oolong itself is tough to find behind the equal parts grapefruit and lemon… so bright, fresh, sweet, fruity, crisp. Just a punch of citrus. Love this flavor. Very thirst quenching! This is the grapefruit I can manage and not those cups of juice they would hand out in elementary school. The lemon reminds me of bergamot. I don’t think I had any Formosa oolongs in my collection, so now I have a bit of this one left. This is very good! The second steep tasted just as good.

I was pleasantly surprised by this tea! I am not a huge fan of oolongs, I tend to find them way too flowery for me. This was a really vegetal oolong though. I got a hint of citrus, though little in the way of specific lemon and grapefruit. But the citrus notes blended really well with the oolong base. The oeral tea was vegetal based with hints of the fruit flavour. I am really glad I have a sample of this to play around with!

This tea tastes just like a fruitier version of what one gets at Chinese food restaurants. It’s a good, fun combination, if a little lackluster. Plus, there’s a strong aftertaste that’s kind of… tart? Vegetal? What’s going on here?

I’m not besotted.

But — as today is going to be The Day I Mostly Wander Off To Give Other Thoughts — I tried the new Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos (purple bag), as well as the Southern Biscuits & Gravy Lays, and liked them both, even though I thought I wouldn’t. My coworker gave them both to me. (You might have noticed, via careful reading, that people are constantly handing me food. I am a human garbage disposal.) They sound hideous, but they’re each delicious in their own way. I also loved the brief-lived Reuben Sandwich chips.

I feel trashy adoring these lowbrow chips. But I am basically Oscar the Grouch, rubbish monster extraordinaire, and I should embrace it.

Caveat Emptor! This company does not have their act together. My order was either never sent or lost in the mail, it took anywhere from a few hours to two weeks for them to answer emails, and when I finally got my order after six weeks, one of the items was missing.

I decided to try this while Adagio’s Grapefruit Oolong was still fresh in my mind. It was a very nice tea. A pleasant oolong flavor paired with a light lemon flavor and hints of grapefruit. Very natural tasting, but less flavorful than I would like. Overall, I think I like Adagio’s Grapefruit Oolong better. Mostly because the flavor is a little stronger, and I think grapefruit tastes better with oolong than lemon. Nice to try, but I won’t miss it.

Yep, I refuse to order from them anymore, even though I really love some of their products. Exact (and I mean, exact) same experience last year… and I’m sure others on here will chime in and say the same.

rosebudmelissa

So disappointing. I’ve only tried a few of their teas so far, but so far the only thing I’ll definitely be looking for a good replacement for is the cacao teas, and I know there’s a couple other companies out there with a similar product.

Sipdown! Thank goodness I have no more of these teas in my cupboard. I’m incredibly unimpressed with the customer service of this company (chasing them for ingredients, friends orders not being received, etc), and their black base is seriously the most finicky I’ve had.

So, an oolong. Dry, it smells divine. The best citrus smell ever. Steeped, it smells a little toasty. And.. even though I added a bit of sugar to bring out the citrus, all I can really taste is the oolong. A little citrus at the end of the sip, but that might be the orange I just peeled. It’s also a little… pithy. I didn’t think I steeped it long enough for the pith from the peels to come out, but apparently I did.

It’s not a terrible oolong, but it is pretty basic. And it’s not the type of oolong flavour I enjoy most (please give me OTT floral green oolongs TYVM).

The other 2 tsp of the sample is cold brewing, and I have higher hopes for that one. It should go well (should! I hope!) with the lemonade syrup I made.

I ordered from them the beginning of January, and still haven’t received my order. I finally got a hold of them last week and they said they would send it again with a tracking number, but I still haven’t received the tracking number. It really doesn’t seem to be a very reliable company.

Sil

it’s AWFUL. DO NOT SHOP HERE. The owner is clearly more focused on everything else he is trying to do and cares NOTHING about his tea business. He didn’t even bring his tea to the tea festival this year…just his new kombucha drinks… i was THIS CLOSE to asking him to consider focusing his energy on ONE THING and doing it right… he’s clearly all over the map and his inability to care about his tea shop just means i’ll never spend time/money/effort on any of his other ventures…because i’ll constantly be wondering, when is he going to get bored with this one?

Sil

sorry….this company makes me seriously ranty…

rosebudmelissa

I wish I’d known before I put in my order :(

OMGsrsly

I ended up dumping the tea because I just cringed every time I tried to sip. Way to toasty in a not good way for me.

I’m sorry you’re having so many troubles, rosebudmelissa. :(

It’s been over a month and I still haven’t gotten my Strawberry Cream cacao tea. Huh.

This tea smells like straight up freshly squeezed lemon. I get no discernible grapefruit in scent or flavour. The base is pretty good, quite floral. Methinks this would make a better cold brew. Hot, it’s not doing much for me.

Sil

Wow… A month

Fjellrev

Very tempting to file a PayPal dispute.

OMGsrsly

There’s a time limit for a PayPal dispute, FYI. All it does is open urgent communication, and if they ignore it then you get your money back. If they respond, then awesome.

Fjellrev

I know, I have another ten days or so left to do it.

Sil

just do it. i’m so tired of their crap… lol

OMGsrsly

:) I did it with another tea company, and they got back to me right away. They weren’t answering their regular email, so I don’t really feel bad about it. So… good luck, whatever you decide to do!

Fjellrev

That’s great that they got back to you. Hmm, maybe wait one more day? The first package didn’t have my main tea, the second one was apparently sent 13 days ago but still hasn’t arrived despite the first one arriving in 9 days. Have until the 14th to file a PayPal dispute.

OMGsrsly

No tracking # or shipping notice? :(

Fjellrev

Nope, I was told that if the second package doesn’t show up they’ll send a third one with tracking. The second package was supposedly sent on the 20th or so and nothing has shown up even though the first one (missing my 100g of cacao) took a little over a week to arrive. Nothing in the mail today again. So perhaps I should email again and if something isn’t sent with tracking ASAP I’ll file a dispute.

I took this out of the Great Canadian Travelling Tea Box in Jan and I’m just trying it now. I’ve been looking to try this one for a long time, I really want to find a good grapefruit tea but I’ve had no luck yet. This tea is not going to do it for me. It’s good, juicy lemon for sure, but I’m not getting any grapefruit. I’ve never had Formosa oolong before but I’m finding it tastes more like a black than an oolong. I’m not looking for a lemon tea so I would not order this one.

Memily

Oh I hope you’ll love Southern Sunrise then! It’s grapefruitorama.

ashleyelizabeth

Oooooh I can’t wait. That’s why I picked it, but I don’t know what I’ll do if I love it. I guess we’ll just have to do another swap!
