Heirloom Bartlett Pear

Hmm. Torn about this one. The other pear tea in the Strange VariaTea TTB is the Cultivate Taste Baked Pear Oolong, so that’s the pear tea I’ve had in most recent memory. Between the “baked” part and being an oolong, that one is understandably heartier. This one is lighter. Not weaker, just more like a fresh juicy pear than a pear tart. I particularly like it as it cools down – that fresh fruitiness works well as a cold beverage.

To be honest, based on the way I’ve seen some people on Steepster describe this tea, I thought the notes of pear in this white tea blend were going to be a little more juicy. However, I still thought this was a really beautiful cup. Very, very direct flavours with a lot of clarity and crispness to them; sweet green pears, a hint of warming cinnamon in the undertones and finish, and a delicate yet not thin white tea with a bit of a floral honeysuckle type note to it.

I do think I have nicer pear teas in my collection that have a lot of the same qualities to this one, but just a smidge more of the juiciness I expected. However, I totally get why this blend has the fan base it does!

Freshly steeped this has a lovely scent of pear with hints of cinnamon, akin to a warm apple (pear) crisp coming out of the oven. The pear flavour stays throughout the cup and is really like warm, liquified pear. I get no candy-like flavour whatsoever. A really lovely pear tea. I didn’t try this cold because it was so tasty warm! If I was wanting for a flavoured white or pear tea, I would consider this one for sure.

Harney has captured the authentic taste of pear! There’s depth to the pear flavor; it’s juicy, tangy and floral verging perfumey. The mellow cinnamon and nutmeg add a spiced touch and the hay-like white tea base complements. I want more from the base though! Was hoping for some of the creaminess of bai mudan that others have noted. It does taste papery in a second steep. Regardless, it’s a great late summer to fall transition tea.

If Kiki likes this, and I get the feeling she’ll love it, I will buy a tin so we can sip this together. Thank you for sharing, Cameron :)

I feel really bad because I just realized that the Harney & Sons sample pouches are compostable. How cool is that?

I am really enjoying this one as the pear notes are quite real as opposed to being candy like. I am maybe wishing for slightly more prominent spice notes but maybe I just need to mix up my sample pouch again. Flavored white teas usually don’t work out for me most of the time they just have no flavor imo. This one is reminiscent to eating a juicy pear and is not disappointing at all. I would definitely be willing to buy some more of this. I also think this tea would be a great gift.

I’m always on the lookout for a nice pear tea, and this definitely fits the bill! The fresh pear, and mild spices work very well with the white base. Very pleasant and mild, and the pear flavor is very authentic.

I found this to be a lovely, light tea with a nice fruit flavor. It reminded me of pears sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I drank it with just a touch of sweetener and nothing else. I really like this blend but after several samples I realize it’s not my cup of tea (sorry, couldn’t resist). I’m just not a fan of white tea. They’re too delicate and fussy for me. I prefer heartier, bolder blends.

So, if you’re a fan of white teas and enjoy fruit blends, this tea should be right up your alley. It’s delicious. If Harney ever releases this with a black tea base, I’ll be all over it!

First pear tea I’ve ever tried. Because I’m so new to flavored teas, after reading some of these reviews/comments, sounds like good pear teas are hard to find. I guess I got lucky since this one tastes like pear, has real pear, and has nice nutmeg and cinnamon notes that blend well with it. It’s smooth, mellow, light-bodied. Yummy. It’s also my first Harney & Sons tea. ^^ If I make an order there, I’ll include this one. :D

Hmm this tea reminds me a lot of one I tried in a swap a few months ago called something like empress white. This is a fruity flavor I enjoy, but I wouldn’t call it pear necessarily. I think DavidsTea has the best pear tea I’ve tried. This one is light and free from bitterness. It’s tasty, but I’m glad I only ordered the sample size! It’s not this tea’s fault, though. I just prefer a bolder flavor than most white teas can give.

365 Days of Tea Challenge – Day 15

Ahhh my love, we meet again…

I absolutely adore this one. Pear is one of my favorite flavors in theory, but I’m often disappointed in its execution. It’s often either overwhelmed by other notes, or it lacks the crispness that I long for.

But this tea executes it perfectly, in my opinion! The white base is a great choice – it’s soft and mellow with a comforting oat-y flavor that’s light enough to support the pear while letting it shine. The pear flavor here is delightfully crisp and fresh, just like a firm and juicy pear. There’s just a light kiss of warming spice to give it an added comfort factor without making it seem like pear crumble.

Nom nom nom. And what a lovely tin, too! This one will definitely be a permanent resident of my cupboard, lovingly restocked each and every time I sip it down.
