From Guru Teas

NAI XIANG – (Taiwan) Originally from Ali Mountain in Taiwan, this magnificent tea has won several awards in the “wulong” category over the last few years for its taste and quality. This tea from a terroir at high altitude is only picked in winter. In infusion, it gives a yellow-green liquor.

It has a unique and unforgettable scent of fresh milk with a floral note and coconut cream. To taste, it is rich with a sweet note and has a very good length in the mouth; a must to taste.

Gongfu Sipdown (718)!

This was one of the freebie teas provided in the MTL Tea Festival goodie bags. It doesn’t say that it’s a flavoured milk oolong on the packaging, but given the potent buttery smell coming off the tea leaf when the package is opened up I’d confidently say there’s just no way this is a natural milk oolong. That said, the rolled oolong that Guru Teas has used for their base is a gorgeous looking leaf – and it seems like a very high quality oolong they’ve chosen.

The tea is delicious – steeps incredibly smooth and creamy. It’s sort of like drinking freshly churned butter, in the least gross way possible. Very light and fresh, with a well rounded/balanced finish that has just a hint of sugar cane sweetness and soft, delicate floral note. It’s that “Spring Time Flowers meets Butter/Condensed Milk” thing that sounds like it shouldn’t work but really it just does in the BEST way.

For a flavoured milk oolong, this is very nice. It steeps pretty consistently, too! I own a lot of milk oolong right now – flavoured and then also more traditional Jin Shuan, so I don’t have a need for more of this in my cupboard right now but if I didn’t have so many options then I could definitely see myself making room for this one.
