Robust and malty, this is a blend of Assam tea of different leaf grades grown in the prized Brahmaputra Valley in Northeast India. The broken leaves make a strong brew with full-bodied flavour. It’s a great morning pick-me-up with a dash of milk.

Adventageddon Day 15 – Tea 3/4
I feel like this tea probably would have been better with milk, but I’ve had basically all the straight black teas from F&M with milk so far this advent so I wanted to drink it plain. It was brisk and full bodied, but actually very enjoyable. Sweeter than I thought it would be with a bit of a sugar cane note alongside more expected flavours like malt, walnut, baked break, and raisin. A bit of a red fruit sort of thing going on, too.

Fortnum & Mason Advent Calendar 2021 – Day 4
I feel like a lot of tea companies don’t seem to put much thought into the order of the teas in their advent calendars. Take this one, for instance – four black teas in a row, three of which were breakfast-type blends. I know there are plenty of flavored and other types of tea in this advent, so why so much repetition? And B&B had a similar issue for me, with herbal tisanes for the first three days. Anyway, it’s odd.
This is a pleasant enough tea. It’s Assam, which I prefer over Ceylon generally, so it doesn’t taste like Lipton to me. But it is fairly generic. There’s a nice maltiness of course, just a hint of raisin. Not much else though, making it a rather boring cuppa. Some astringency on the tail end, but nothing extreme. Then again, I did keep the steep quite short.
Added a healthy drizzle of extra creamy oat milk to the second half, which smooths it out a bit. Still, nothing to write home about. In fact it might be my least favorite so far?
Flavors: Dry Leaves, Malt, Raisins, Tannic
Advent Day One
I am not a fan of many breakfast blends. I drink my tea plain but with this one I can’t. I really needed sugar and milk to make it palatable for me.
Coffee lovers and lovers of British style breakfast blends will probably like it. It is so malty and has the sharp coppery taste plus astringency that keep me from really enjoying it.
It steeps dark and it steeps fast. Maybe I can find a happy spot to make me like it, or something else to blend it with, or maybe it will become a sweet iced tea, but I can’t see this 25 grams going down this way.
Another tea found in huge bags. And so far one of the worst from Fortnum and Mason? 2 and little steeping time.
It brews so quickly, so after that short time I have opaque, dark brown tea.
And it tastes generic, black tea., even with metallic aftertaste. What?

This is a nice breakfast tea. It can get quite strong, so I like to steep mine for 2-3 minutes, but not more. It goes perfectly with milk and sugar. It has a malty aroma and taste to it, which could leave a bit of a bitter taste, but with milk or cream, it goes down nicely. It’s a classic, wonderful breakfast Assam tea.

A nice solid black tea! The malty-ness was just right for me after steeping for the recommended 3 minutes. I find it smooth going down with the tannins kicking in a little later.
I would definitely drink this in the AM if I wanted something a little lighter than coffee. I’ll probably try it out with a splash of creamer next time to see how it works together.
Advent Day 15
I skipped logging day 14 because it was another tea not yet on Steepster and I got tired of adding teas from this calendar. This advent calendar is starting to be a drag for a variety of reasons. :/
This tea is smooth, creamy, a little sweet and a tiny bit malty at the end of the sip. It’s good and solid, but doesn’t stand out enough to make me seek it over other options.
