From Drink T

Yerba Mate is an exotic herbal tea native to many parts of South America. The infusion is prepared by steeping dry leaves (and twigs) of yerba mate in hot water, rather than in boiling water. Drinking mate with friends from a shared hollow gourd (also called a guampa in Spanish, or cabaça or cuia in Portuguese) with a metal straw (a bombilla in Spanish, bomba in Portuguese) is a common social practice in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, eastern Bolivia and southern and western Brazil.

Yerbe Mate has been shown to provide LDL-cholesterol reduction in individuals on statin therapy, increase antioxidant activity, and studies at the University of Illinois have shown yerba mate to exhibit significant cancer-fighting activity.

Our Mate Honey is a blend of this vegetal, grassy, herbal tea and honey that brews up to offer a healthy, invigorating beverage.

The honey flavor is very pleasant… I like the way it melds with the vegetative taste of the mate. It is a very nice cuppa!

Oh wow! This sounds like an interesting combo. Never thought to pair honey with mate.

I managed to mess this tea up royally, sigh. It smells amazing dry, very similar to DT’s Honeybee, and the cold brew was just as fragrant. It even looked like liquid honey! Sadly, it tasted like licorice. Bleurgh :( Definitely need to try again!

The honey aroma is so intense I can smell it in the other room! WOW! Now…I am not one to really LOVE honey but it’s alright I guess…so I find this aroma a little overwhelming BUT if you are one who LOVES honey – I think you will love it!

It’s quite yellowish in color just like in the product description pic from Drink T’s website.

The taste is still true honey taste-wise but not nearly as intense as the aroma. It’s first and foremost honey but then I can pick up on some sweet grass and herbal notes. The taste of this is very nice. As I continue to drink it I am finding I am enjoying it more and more.

This one surprised me…I wasn’t sure if I would ‘dig’ it or not – but turns out – it’s pretty groovy!
