From Tiffany:)!   Thanks very much.  I wanted to try this one asap after the Earl to make sure the lemon was distinctly different in both blends.  It is.  Upon opening the pouch, there is such an intoxicating scent of bakey cinnamon.  It certainly smells like a pastry.  And that cinnamon also seems to take over the flavor.  Much more cinnamon here than lemon, despite so much lemongrass floating in the infuser.  But I will definitely gravitate to this blend when I’m craving that bakey cinnamon flavor.  It could be a cinnamon roll tea, really.

Time to try some new-to-me Dessert by Deb teas!

Deb mentioned this as one of her favorites in her recent Instagram Q&A, so I figured it needed to be tried! I also love lemon and lemon cake, so it’s right up my alley.

The lemon here is actually quite subdued, though I do end up tasting both the lemon peel and the more herbaceous lemongrass. But mostly this reminds me of a cinnamon coffeecake or maybe a snickerdoodle, as the cinnamon is probably the strongest note. It does have a nice caramelized sweetness from the maple as well, which does sort of remind me of the crisp outer layer of a bundt cake.

So it’s a bit like a lemon loaf + cinnamon coffeecake mashup IMO. With the coffeecake being the stronger of the two. It’s tasty, but I think it could be really wonderful if the lemon were a smidge stronger.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea #10

Another Deb blend added in by VariaTEA that I wanted to try since the opportunity presented itself. I’ll be honest, I have actively avoided this tea – not because I think it would taste bad but because something about the word “Bundt” sounds revolting to me. I feel like I get the same almost gag like reflex some people seem to have with the word “Moist”. It’s the same reason I wont touch Deb’s flan inspired tea, or the “Lemugar” tea from Bird & Blend. The words just… don’t sit right.

So, sipping on this one earlier today I had to very actively try not to think of the name as I sipped it – but when I was able to block it out I actually enjoyed the taste of this tea a lot. It’s definitely lemony, but very soft and light. What I didn’t expect so much was the cinnamon that I got throughout the sip – also lighter, and very pastry-like in its sweetness. Kind of lime cinnamon sugar donuts, but if the donut base was mildly lemon flavoured.

I think, if this tea had another name, I could see myself really getting into this one.

This one was always a bit flat for me. I can smell lemon but it’s hard to get much beyond the maple sugar.

I’m tasting sugar for sure, a brown sugar flavor. It’s also a little sweet. Not getting a super prominent lemon taste in the sip. Maybe I can evoke a cooked lemon if I really try. The finish has a hint of lemon, but by then most of the other flavors are gone. I feel like this blend is missing something if it was going to live up to it’s namesake.
Thanks to VariaTEA for the sample!
