Homemade Advent Day 2
From AJRimmer
I know it’s a late tasting note but yesterday was a pretty busy day.
This one’s nice and refreshing and reminds me a bit of Cold 911 and AU’s Tropic Of Capricorn tea. I like how this one is simpler flavorwise. It’s minty but not too minty that the eucalyptus is lost. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by a eucalyptus tea that I’ve tried. The dates in this tea definitely add some sweetness and the aloe adds some cooling notes. I initially steeped this cup at 175F and then was able to resteep it at 200F.

An Ode to Tea challenge #2– E

Oh wow, I think I just found my very favorite Davidstea blend in recent memory.  Thanks for sharing, AJRimmer!  This is perfection in a blend right here. First, I made sure to get a slice of cucumber and a big ol chunk of what I’m assuming is aloe in the infuser, along with all these other goodies.  The flavor just WORKS.  It’s soothing, crisp, minty, refreshing, cooling.  I’m tickled to notice now that the blend has dates.  I specifically drank another tea today with dates because the book I’m reading keeps mentioning dates.  (Though I wouldn’t say the dates are really showing up in the flavor.)  Hard to describe but this particular mix of ingredients, the flavor combo is just dreamy.  It’s almost to be enjoyed as more of a ‘feeling’ tea than ‘flavors’ tea if that makes sense, though the flavors are amazing too.  I didn’t steep this one up thinking I’d like it at all, so I was surprised to love it! Went for a third delicious steep to really get as much as possible out of these leaves, and glad I didn’t miss it.  And darn it, looks like it’s unavailable for sale anymore.  I have one steep session left! I don’t think I rated anything this highly in quite a while.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for full mug //  50 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // 30 minutes after boiling // 2 min
Steep #3 // 17 minutes after boiling // 3-4 min

Last time I visited my sister, I shared a lot of cups of this one with her, and she loved it too! I like it, but never find myself drinking it, so perhaps I should send the rest of the bag your way!

Mmm, sounds nice!

Maybe if you eventually send another package.. or you can give it to your sister. :D

I love eucalyptus, so I was excited to try this one. I think I prefer the August Uncommon eucalyptus blend. I feel like this one ends up a little too sharp/cleanery since it doesn’t have enough other things in there to balance it out. Eucalyptus and mint are the only flavors I can taste, though the dry leaf was fascinating with large slices of cucumber going in there. I did a second cold steep which ended up quite strong as well. I do end up liking this tea, but I have many other mint teas I prefer.

Sipdown 58

Being sick definitely helped with sipping through this. I enjoyed it, but I was always hoping to taste more of the aloe or cucumber. I did love the big chunks of both in the blend.

I prefer Cold 911 for a go-to sick blend.

Another new one from the Rest/Recharge collection; this one is only in select stores and online so it might not be easily accessible to everyone…

This is kind of intended to have sort of loose spa vibes, with the cucumbers and an ingredient set that sort of replicates the feeling of all those lovely spa aromas that kind of make your sinuses clear up and cause you to feel really refreshed. A sort of “breath deep and relax” kind of motif; very self care oriented for this idea of refreshing/recharging sometimes meaning destressing and taking it easy/relaxing to some people.

I don’t mind this blend at all, I think it has a similar creamy aloe note that Dragonfruit Aloe has (which makes sense because they use the same large aloe vera pieces) but that’s more of an undertone. I’d say the main flavour is a cooling combination of eucalyptus and peppermint; think “Cold 911” but much less intense/harsh. It’s also got a nice refreshing vegetal finish from the cucumber. I could drink this one pretty easily, and I feel like I’m getting the intended elements if the goal is to make me feel refreshed.

However, that said, I find it so comparable to other DT blends – Cold 911, Cool Cucumber, and Cool Eucalyptus in particular. Sadly, in the case of all of those teas, I prefer all of them to this tea – though this is still nice. Do I need to mix another tea into my already large assortment when I have other comparable teas more easily available? Probably not.

Though, Cool Cucumber is long since gone so if you were really into that tea then I would maybe suggest giving this one a shot? They do have some interesting flavour overlap, though they aren’t identical.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
