Somebody wrote a note for DT’s Cranberry Gingerale recently, which made me really want to break open my new packet and try it out, especially iced. But I already had my caffeinated tea today and didn’t want to deal with anything too exciting on a migraine day. I opted for this caffeine-free cranberry blend instead. It’s better than I expected – the flavors are really well balanced and enjoyable. The dry leaf smells of hibiscus, cranberry, and lemon. Brewed, the flavor is cranberry-forward with a strong hibiscus note supported by the lemon and oat straw notes. I let it cool and turned it into a tea soda, which was so good. The bubbles really highlight the different flavors at play in this blend, and the tartness here makes for a really effective and enjoyable soda. It’s the kind I’ll probably end up hoarding the last few teaspoons of.

I really enjoyed this blend hot and iced. Hot it reminded me of mulled wine and iced it reminded me of sweet cranberry juice with a slight cinnamon aftertaste.

I love cranberries but two things turned me off: 1) When steeping, it smelled like chicory, but I think that was the dandelion root. 2) It was sour-bland. It just didn’t taste like cranberries.

Alright, I like it. It’s an odd combo of cranberry juice and sour hibiscus, but it’s quite lovely. I’d compare it to sour cranberry candy, hold the sweetness.

I brewed it up hot. Maybe not ideal, but it’s really working for me, in a very odd way. I’ll probably drink the remainder of my 50g bag (less now) iced. I typically don’t drink cold stuff in the winter (with the exception of cold filter water), but I can get behind it. My wife will probably go crazy that I’m making tea HER WAY. ;) She’ll definitely enjoy this, too. Maybe a lot.

Tastes like a tart candy. Very surprising as I don’t normally go for detox teas

Not bad. I like the cranberry flavour here, and the rooibos isn’t offputting and medicinal. That said, I’m not really into the earthy flavours behind the cranberry, so although this is drinkable, it’s not something I’d pick up again.

*Note that this is for the Dandelion Detox version, which I assume is the same as Cranberry Dandelion Detox and Cranberry Cheer

Cold Brew!

Managed to wake up early enough today to strain my cold brew and brew it along with me for my commute today – something that very, very rarely happens. I wish I’d started something caffeinated last night but I didn’t expect to be drinking it during the day.

This is such a wallop of tart and crisp cranberries. It’s both very sweet and juicy while also having a puckering sour quality that it making me wince every now and then between sips – I’m such a baby when it comes to this kind of sharp tartness. I feel like I’m missing out on some cinnamon notes, but the cinnamon has always been light in this blend and steeping it cold brewed really isn’t the best prep method if those are the notes you’re wanting to draw out.

Overall it’s good, but not meshing with me super perfectly in this moment.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
