Day 3 Davids Tea 2023 Advent Calendar

I have a pretty decent stress headache at the moment. Probably related to a meeting I need to run this evening. I remembered that this tea was hanging out on my “make sure to note this” stack and decided that relaxing with it would be a good idea. Either the tea or the Advil (or both) are helping!

Unsurprisingly, this blend of medicinal tea reminds me of other herbal teas I have used in the past. Like most of them, I don’t love or hate the taste. It’s creamy with minty cool of the mint lingering after each sip. I could see this being a staple in my “wellness” tea tool box.

This tea has willow bark in it, which according to WebMD (and many other sources) contains the chemical Salicin. Salicin is similar to aspirin. That being said, it really has no flavor except mint. It has nana mint in it, which apparently has medicinal properties too. I really just can’t get into this tea because of its lack of flavor and aroma! It also leaves an odd taste or sensation on my tongue; could it be the Salicin? I’m generally not sensitive to aspirin, but then, I also don’t take very much. AT LEAST IT DOESN’T HAVE STEVIA IN IT! Wouldn’t drink this again.

A cupboard staple! I don’t use tea for medicinal purposes but I love this tea when I’m feeling a bit stressed. Usually only iced unless it’s winter. It’s fresh and minty… a teeny bit savory? But I like it hehe.

From a TTB. This is about what you’d expect from a tea like this. I taste some mint that’s not the freshest or most delicious, but it’s okay cold. There are a bunch of other ingredients that combine to taste sort of generically herbaceous. This was fine, just very not exciting.

Headache Halo has a lot of ingredients but none of them are overpowering, which is often what makes a tea stand out as one I love or hate. That’s probably why although I’d tried it at my sister’s house before I bought it, I couldn’t remember what it tasted like (though I knew I’d remember if I didn’t like it).

It’s a pleasant, neutral tasting herbal tea that I would probably buy again.

Advent Calendar from Kaylee: Day 14

Decided to try this as an iced tea because I wasn’t really into a hot herbal blend. I don’t know that I’ve ever had an iced rooibos, actually, but I don’t mind it. It seems like the medicinal quality of the rooibos gets tempered a bit. I’m mostly tasting mint and lemongrass, and it’s pretty nice. Not sure where the lavender and rose are going but I don’t miss them in this instance.

H is for … Headache Halo (Ode to Tea)
I just have to start by saying I am actually obsessed with this Rooibos blend from DavidsTea. It’s probably my favorite rooibos blend they have created. It’s perfect for this nights when I have a mild tension headache or just when I need a nice cup to help me fall asleep. Tonight is the second of the two, I knew when I had to drink I blend that started with H this would be the perfect would to save for the end of the night!!

Sipdown!

Well. I must say that this was MUCH better than the 45 I gave it previously…. when I have it topped up with honey while sick. Served its purpose. I’ll bump it up, but wouldn’t choose to drink this without honey or while not sick.

My partner decided we needed to place a DavidsTea order because we were out of Caribbean Crush, and it’s his favorite to cold brew. This came as a sample with the order (yay for samples from DT again!). This isn’t something I would have ordered, because of the rooibos. But, I had a slight headache developing so decided to try it. Added a bit of honey.
No rooibos taste at all luckily. It tastes like a pretty generic mint/sleepytime tea, but it does seem to be helping my headache.

Another new tea – not part of the Chai collection, but something slipped onto the tea wall today during the Autumn/Winter seasonal switchover, meaning it’ll be around for at least the next six months…

I’m generally pretty skeptical of “Wellness Blends” but this is meant for headaches and that’s something that I do think there are herbal remedies for that are fairly legit. Of course, I’m not saying this tea is some miracle cure for headaches – I’d never say that, it’s just not something I believe. However, I get headaches a lot – generally from looking at the light from my laptop for extended periods of time, and also from subconsciously clenching my teeth. So, over the last few months I have been drinking this tea whenever I’ve had a headache and I do find it helps me – doesn’t really get rid of the headache, but definitely tempers it a lot. Ironically, given the name, I actually find I get the same relief that I get from using the Peppermint Halo roller from Sage (and I am a FREQUENT user of Sage’s Peppermint Halo). It’s helpful for me – and something I might add to my sick tea stash, along with Cold 911 and Honey Drop. Of course, that’s just a personal experience and I know it’s different for everyone – I think, for me, it’s the combo of mint and willowbark that helps me out, but I’m not totally sure.

As for the taste…?

Well, I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. I find the taste of the nana mint in the blend really intense/strong and it has that weird licorice-y sweetness that really coats my whole mouth and lingers for an excessively long time. It reminds me A LOT of Throat Rescue in terms of taste, though I do actually like this better than Throat Rescue. This is licorice from the nana mint, but Throat Rescue has that quality on top of ACTUALLY having licorice root in it. I think it helps that I find Headache Halow also had a bit of a creaminess to it, and a hint of lavender to break up that intense nana mint and make it a bit smoother tasting to me. It’s very herbaceous/minty overall though…

I’m curious to see if people like it – I know I was surprised by it, though I like in conceptually a lot. This is one of those very, very rare cases where I might actually buy a tea for function over flavour – and I really don’t say that often, or lightly.
