Either I’m in a fruity cold brew mood, or maybe I’m just in a “clear these little sampler packets out of the cupboard” mood. This is another free sampler 5g packet from a past DAVIDsTEA order, that I cold brewed in 12 oz. of water in the fridge.
I think I got a better mix of ingredients in this packet because my tea actually has a nice red color this time. I can certainly smell the melon from the cold liquor. It’s actually much sweeter than I was imagining, so the flavor is reminding me of watermelon Jolly Ranchers… a melon candy rather than fresh and bright melon fruit. The sweetness tastes like cream to me. There is a sort of herbaceous taste in the finish, after the sweetness subsides a bit, that reminds me a little of the mint/citrus/peppery taste of tulsi, but it is subtle.
I’m liking this a lot more than expected, given that it is much sweeter than I was expecting. I don’t think it’s something I’d purchase, just because I have other melon teas I like better, but I wouldn’t balk if any other samplers of it ended up in my hands.
