I can see why this would have been labeled “every day green” because it absolutely feels like a tea I could start every morning drinking.

This was smooth, especially at a 2 minute steep, and perfect for a second steep. It’s vegetal and refreshing without any of the bitterness I was getting from the Japanese Sencha earlier in this box. I’m going to have a hard time deciding which of these green teas makes its way to my cupboard after the calendar is over; there have been so many tasty options! My partner also liked this one a lot, which bumps it up on my priority list for sure.

This tea has been sitting in my cupboard for way too long (the package said it was scooped in 2019) and there was enough for one more big mug left. I like the idea of an “everyday” green — something approachable, easy to drink, and difficult to mess up. I do think that this tea fits that bill — it’s an easy-to-drink Chinese tea with strong vegetal notes — think more edamame than seaweed though. It has an underlying nuttiness that, in my opinion, makes it a likeable “everyday” tea. It’s just interesting enough for beginner loose straight tea drinkers, as it’s definitely a step up from any grocery store green bagged tea. However, this would probably lack the complexity that a seasoned straight tea drinker would like in a green tea. I definitely prefer my Dragonwell, but this is very good too.

Was craaaavving a green tea after an asian meal of some sort one day; this fit the bill perfectly, although I oversteeped it (of course. I feel like I’ve said that in approximately every second review I’ve written. I badly need a tiny timer in my tea area that takes no effort to start.)

AJRimmer

Yep, phones have timer apps built in, but for some reason that’s just too much effort for me. I totally get it!

Roswell Strange

I have a little digital timer that I can type in the time I want (by the minute) that I just have to press start on – then after my time period it keeps beeping until I turn it off; makes it hard to ignore. Sometimes I also use the timer on my oven…

Kittenna

@AJRimmer – on rare occasion, I use my phone timer, but I frequently don’t have my phone right there so yeah, too much effort!

@Roswell Strange – yes, that’s what I need, a little digital timer right in my tea area. No fuss. Our microwave is nearby and also has a timer, but that’s also too much effort for me. I am truly lazy when it comes to this, but it would probably result in so much better outcomes!

Adventaggedon Day Sixteen – 1/6

Gongfu!

When I drink this tea it’s hard not to think of my coworker Billy, who has this tea literally multiple times a day. It’s his absolute favourite tea that DT carries, and it just personifies his perfect everyday green tea.

I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t brew this tea out fully because I just wasn’t in the mood for a drawn out session of green tea. However, the three steeps I did have weren’t so bad. If it comes down to it, I’m pretty much always going to choose a straight Chinese green tea over a Japanese one, and this one has some soft nuttiness to it that makes that a much easier choice – I do love a nutty, toasty tea. Mostly it tastes like raw green beans to me, but with a bit of snap and sweetness to it. It’s fine and I totally see why it’s something that Billy finds so easy to drink so frequently. Very approachable, all things considered.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
