From DAVIDsTEA

A loving homage to Turkish coffee, this cardamom-spiked white tea could become your new obsession. Blended with energizing black tea, coffee beans and a dollop of cream, it manages to be both smooth and refreshing, rich yet surprisingly light. A sweet and satisfying dessert-like tea that’ll seduce you from the first sip.

How it tastes:

Rich, creamy coffee flavours mingle perfectly with fresh notes of aromatic cardamom

What makes it great:

● This java-inspired tea is our nod to Turkish coffee, which is traditionally brewed with crushed cardamom.

● It’s got a caffeinated base of white and black tea to give you a boost of energy.

● The perfect blend for coffee lovers looking for a delicious gateway to tea.

50 g of this tea makes around 10-12 16 oz cups of hot tea and 5-7 16 oz cups of iced tea.

Ingredients: White tea, black tea, cardamom seed and husk, apple, coffee bean, rosehips, natural and artificial flavouring.

Price per 50g: $10.98

Tricky review, this one.

First off, it’s a white chai. I’m a new convert to white chai’s, where my partner decided all he drinks is white tea. So, I had to figure out a way to combine my love of chai with something he’d drink.

This fits the bill…. sort of.

I mean, there’s ALSO black tea in here, and then…. big crescendo… there’s also COFFEE.

GASP.

C’mon tea lovers. It’s a macchiato.

Still, I’m all… what?! Tea AND coffee. Sacriledge!

Next up in the melange of weirdness? It has an odd assortment of ingredients. Apple was the strangest for me (I’m not sure how it fits, other than perhaps as a natural sweetener), although the rosehips also made me go… hmmm.

Now I really want to try it.

Yep, yep, yep.

First cup was straight tea, nothing added, no sweetener.

All I can say is… this tea surprised me.

It DOES taste like a macchiato. It’s definitely cardamom-heavy (bring it, I love cardamom), and I can also taste the coffee. The black tea gives it a bit of depth, and then the apple sweetens things up so I really don’t need sweetener. Although, I’m definitely adding some the next steep. Just to be sure. ;)

First cup, second steep was surprisingly similar, with some added Krisda (stevia + erythritol mix). I still craved the creaminess of a macchiato.

Darn that’s hard to spell correctly. Macchiato.

Second cup, I added heavy cream + Krisda.

OMG. This is goooooood. Like I could drink this all day and still gulp it down in one sip, gooooood.

I think, perhaps, for me…. this reminds me of a coffee my former inlaws used to make every morning. They’d grab their locally-roasted beans, grind them up with some cardamom, and then brew their coffee.

This tea, drink, whatever you want to call it at this point (it’s a bit of everything, isn’t it?) reminds me of that feeling, that moment, that….. ah….

It’s a hit for me, and a surprising one. I didn’t think I’d like this so much that I’d want to buy more.

I mean, I drink TEA people, not coffee…

1 DAVIDs Perfect Spoon in 12 oz of water and 8 oz of heavy cream, brewed three minutes, at boiling water temperature. I

f I could, I would do this at a much lower temperature, but all I have access to at this coworking space is instant boiling water. Ah, first world problems.

It’s directly inspired by Turkish Coffee – which is coffee with ground up cardamom pods or husks in it. I’m not 100% sure, but I feel like (in addition to providing some sweetness) the apple might be a nod to that as well? IE. Turkish Apple…

It’s been a rough couple of weeks so I decided to treat myself to a little shopping trip to Davidstea while I was in the neighborhood. I ended up getting the matcha miso soup tea for the coming cold nights, but this cardamom macchiato blend was one of the samples. Honestly it’s delicious and I would have bought some on the spot except that it has coffee and black tea in it, neither of which my stomach tolerates particularly well. But the creamy coffee flavor is dead on and the cardamom adds a gentle spiciness. I am a little skeptical of DT’s claim that this is a low-caffeine tea given the ingredients, but other than that I would totally recommend it.

Flavors: Coffee, Cream, Spicy

MissB

I also wondered how this could possibly be a low caffeine tea. But then… the coffee beans are full beans (and thus only really impart flavor, you need to grind them to do much with them) and I honestly couldn’t find one black tea leaf in the two cups I made myself of this.

So… it’s possible? Did you react at all to the coffee or black tea in this?

I normally get the jitters from coffee, and I didn’t at all with this drink.

Got a sample of this in my recent DT order. I could not resist their new fox collection! Anyway this is a decent blend, I feel the white tea was an odd choice as a base though since the flavors in this one are strong so I don’t really taste the leaves at all. It reminds me a lot of the cardamom french toast blend with a little coffee aftertaste. It was an okay cup but I don’t know what it is there is always a weird sweet aftertaste for me when it comes to some of DT blends. It probably would do better as a latte but alas I only had the one sample oh well…

I had to stop by a retail store last week to pick up some tins (including the cute seal tin), and I grabbed something o drink while I was there too because that’s kind of just what you do. I had been craving this tea literally all day but I don’t own any of it so it was a great chance for me to get it and satisfy that craving. I had it as a latte, and it was really satisfying. Not for the coffee notes, mind you. Though, coffee and steamed milk obvious does go together very nicely and anything coffee usually works well as a latte. No, it was the cardamom that I was DEEPLY craving – that spice is so comforting and cozy, with a nice natural sweetness to it.

Still don’t love this enough to buy it – but I love being able to so easily scratch that cravings itch.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

To be fair, I’m not always a fan of just any spicy, chai-like tea (though I do have a few that I like). This one is OK, mostly because I like the strong cardamom note it has. I received this as a sample with my last order. I probably won’t stock up, but I would sip a cup if someone offered me one.

The choice to use a white tea base strikes me as a bit odd since the flavor is hidden underneath the heavy cardamom and coffee notes. Apart from that, I’m pleasantly surprised by this blend. I get the cardamom first and the coffee on the tail-end of the sip. It’s giving me coffeehouse feels, and I’m digging that on this early Saturday morning.

Since they’ve chosen a white tea base, it’s a bit costly. I might buy 100g or so before it’s gone. It’s really nice on its own, but I’m sure it’d make a lovely latte as well.

Received this sample of Cardamom Macchiato along with my newest DT order (had to get that free Llama tote bag!)…and of course get some more (on sale) Sunset Matcha! I am now the proud owner of 900g of it! I had to stock up since it looks like its retiring and I want to enjoy this blend for awhile (especially when your person loves it too as a matcha lemonade). Anyhoo, back to the sample. I was super excited to try this one ever since seeing it on a leaked photo of upcoming tea names list on Davidstea fan group on Facebook. The dry leaf smells like licorice to me (which is weird because there’s no licorice in this blend). However, while brewing, it started to smell like coffee (one of the yummiest smells in the world in my opinion). I made it as a hot latte. One taste and it’s instant love! I really like this one. Kinda tastes like coffee crisp at first, then I notice the cardamom/coffee flavor coming through. My wallet isn’t going to be happy with me this Fall/Winter season as I will have to stock up on this one!

A tasty sipdown for my morning cup. I made this with 500 mL very hot water + a bit of vanilla soy milk. This was the bottom of a small sample pack and it had lots of little crumbs that made for a strong (in a good way) cup of tea.
