After seeing the add for this on Facebook and sharing the magic with others, I needed to try this tea. I was tempted to purchase it online, but instead made my way over to the mall. The sales clerk was very helpful and opened the sniffler first and even pointed out that it was on the little sample table.

Dried the leaf reminded me of blueberries and a hint of apples. It brews a lovely deep purple and blue with a candied fruits aroma. The flavour before adding lemon juice (freshly squeezed) was a refreshing fruit candy flavour (not something I will have often, but a nice little treat), but once the lemon enters the tea and the colour changes from a purple/blue to a purple/pink the flavour takes on a citrus flavour which I am loving.

At the time I only purchased 50g of the “potion” but now regret it. I cannot keep it iced in the fridge long enough for everyone else to play with their drink. The kids cannot get enough of it. My next trip to the mall already has this on my shopping list.

This is a niche tea – its great tasting for those who love fruity teas with a slight floral, perfum-ey flavour. It is a sweeter tea thanks to the addition of Stevia. It brews a deep, rather opaque blue based purple, and tastes just like the blue raspberry flavor you had as a kid. It turns pink with the addition of 2 TBS of fresh lemon juice per 12 ounces tea and adds a wonderful sweet tart flavor that reminds me of the blue raspberry jolly ranchers. I love it both ways.

I LOVE this tea! It is beautiful to look at in dry form and equally as beautiful steeping a deep blue/purple. I have never ever had a drink that beautiful in color. Tastes pretty good before adding the lemon-can definitely taste the stevia but it isn’t overpowering to me. I add the lemon and stir and magically it turns a lighter purple-like violet. This is some seriously good iced tea-like a fruity lemonade. Where has this tea been all my life! I hope this one sticks around for a long long time.

Wanted to do a fun, spooky layered drink for Halloween so I made some of this iced to pour over a cup with black lemonade (charcoal lemonade) in it – black and blue gradient w/ maybe some purple hue in the middle from the colour changing!? Aw hell yeah, how dope does that sound!? Pretty dope.

However, it didn’t layer properly and the whole thing just got mixed together which just created this deep black/murky blue coloured drink. It almost looked just straight up black. That still would have been pretty cool – but it’s not what I’m going for. I have one more bottle of black lemonade, so I’ll try again…

Taste wise – it’s Magic Potion & Lemonade, just black. Nothing fancy about it; if you know the usual stevia bomb type taste of Magic Potion then you know exactly what this tasted like. It was never really about the taste though – all about that cool Halloween vibe.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

The colour of the liquor is so damn beautiful. Why does this have to taste like a stevia-hater’s worst nightmare?

Those butterfly pea flower sweethearts, though. Before adding anything to the liquor, I’d say the colour is more like a blue-based purple than an indigo. It’s deep, yet vibrant. Interesting enough, pouring this over ice, or adding ice to it already changes the colour slightly. Methinks the pH level of your local water source can be a factor then too.

Taking a sip pre-lemon juice, it’s seriously stevia full of rage. Then add the fake berry flavouring and I’m starting to question whether this is safe for human consumption. This is supposed to be ingested, right? Are you sure? Because I’m beginning to think that someone slipped some new-age berry-scented Mr. Clean into a cup of ice and called it iced tea.

But I need to see this magic trick. Ok, so stir in some lemon juice. Cool. It’s turning a red-based purple now. More importantly, it’s tasting slightly better, as the acidic lemon is blanketing the stevia and artificial flavours to the best of its abilities. Still incredibly artificial but at least it’s not as sweet. Still an 11 on the sweetness factor, but hey, that number has come down quite substantially, scarily enough.

I weep for the dried kiwi in here. You poor bastards, I would have gladly enjoyed you fresh. Same goes for the other dried fruits in here. It just seems like such a waste when they’re covered up by their abominable teammates. What’s sad is this makes other blue raspberry-flavoured things seem normal. I’m actually one of those weirdos who doesn’t mind the blue raspberry Jolly Ranchers. I even bought a blue raspberry-flavoured lip scrub the other month and love it. This is in a category of its own and doesn’t even resemble blue raspberry. That’s how far off the grid the artificial is here.

Wait, so I was actually supposed to drink this? I’m still having a hard time believing this.

Autistic Goblin

I used to drink blue raspberry Pepsi. I also love those jolly ranchers too! Glad I’m not alone. Well if you have leftover tea that you can’t drink you could always use it in the bath. Might be good for the skin.

Fjellrev

Oh, the blue Pepsi! That reminded me of those blue whale candies. See, even these two things tasted more normal than this. Luckily I don’t have anymore sitting around, but bathing with loose tea is always a nice idea.
