From DAVIDsTEA

Say aloha to our punchy new matcha! Bursting with tropical fruit flavours, this energizing stone-ground green tea is a hula party waiting to happen. It’s sweet. It’s lively. And it makes the most refreshing iced tea ever. Whisk up a pitcher and serve chilled with little paper umbrellas. Or if you really want to let loose, try freezing it into ice cubes and blending them with a little coconut milk. It’ll blow your mind. Welcome to the luau…

This fruity matcha comes prepacked in limited edition white bag for summer – the perfect way to introduce a friend to matcha green tea.

Price per 50g: $9.98

Made this as an iced matcha latte and of the three most recent flavoured matchas, this is my least favourite. It’s alright but I wouldn’t have it again. It has the least amount of flavour an scent. There’s a slice of pineapple with a few shreds of coconut maybe, but nothing that truly makes me think of Hawaiian punch. To be fair, I should have tasted it straight. Maybe the fruit flavours got buried underneath the milk.

Although the name does remind me of Hawaiian Punch, the bottled drink. Egads, that ruby red stuff was sweet. My dad used to buy it when I was a kid and even though my brother and I didn’t care for it, we drank it anyway just because it was there, you know? Ugh. So on the upside, yay for this not resembling that red food colouring catastrophe in any way?

Sipdown (240)

Just wrote my first final exam of my first year of law school. It was worth 100% and I didnt even finish. Most others didnt either so I think I’m riding the curve on this one.

Now that I’m home I’m relaxing a bit. Doing laundry. Drinking a smoothie that used all of what I had of this matcha to go with banana, honey, yogurt, and milk. My idea was that tropical fruits go with banana and I was right because this smoothie is good. It’s not distinctly Hawaiian Punch just as all the other smoothies didnt taste distinctly like the matcha they had in them but once again there is a flavor setting this apart from the others. Its extremely sweet and fruity but a generic fruitiness. Tasty.

Sipdown (590)!

I was feeling inspired by VariaTEA this morning – who just finished off her pouch of DT’s Berries & Cream matcha. I have a lot of matcha right now, and I had basically the perfect amount left of this one to just finish it off as a latte. So that’s what I’m doing! If I was doing things in true VariaTEA fashion I’d be having it as a smoothie but I don’t own a blender so…

Anyway, it’s nice as a latte! I mean, as nice as a “Hawaiian Punch Latte” can be. There’s something so wrong, yet so right about having what is essentially a fruity juice flavour prepared with milk. I’m getting the pineapple notes though, and a general tropical vibe. Weirdly summery, while having the comfort and indulgence of a latte.

One of the stranger sipdowns I’ve had as of late.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

bahahaha my matcha smoothies have been out of sheer laziness tbh. Maybe I should have another today…I have this one, Blueberry, Maple, Peach, and Honeydew that need to be finished off. But which would go with bananas, greek yogurt, milk and honey?

Roswell Strange

Personally my vote would be blueberry – that sounds super yummy.

That’s where I was leaning

A fruity matcha-I can taste pineapple and for some strange reason it tastes like bubblegum to me (not that I’m complaining!). Makes for a great morning smoothie.
