Yup, this has those classic flavours I attribute to bagged teas. Obviously better quality, and also nice and smooth. But I’m just not a fan of this profile, I want chocolate or raisins or other, richer, malty notes. However, the leaves are definitely interesting – they’re rolled almost into oolong-type balls. Actually, maybe it’s more like gunpowder. Either way, it might be the first black I’ve had like that! Neat.

I wanted to use up some of that mocha orange biscotti tea but couldnt handle the intense flavour. Mixing it with this worked out ok. I think it needs something with more malt.
I’m not terribly impressed.
The pekoe tea alone is thin but it was the only straight black tea I had at work. It got me the caffeine I needed in the end :)

Tomorrow Mum is having surgery. I’ll be at the hospital all day. Nothing too risky, it is lapriscopic and they have an almost 100% success rate. Still. I worry. Don’t ever damage your kidneys. Seriously.
What teas should I take…

My uncle just had similar surgery and it went very well. I know it’s useless saying ’don’t worry’ but… don’t worry! When he got to the hospital my uncle’s nurse told him that the most dangerous part was over (driving to the hospital). I hope all goes well for her.

Hope all goes well! Surgery is always nerve wracking but that’s really great to hear how high the success rate is! I’m sure it’ll be okay!
My 2 year old has to have hip surgery and in a cast for 6-8weeks soon. Same thing, very high success rate, but I’m still worried and upset about it… I just keep saying to myself, “just keep swimming” or “just keep breathing” (Sang in Dory’s voice of course. haha)

I have been on the hunt for a plain tea with medium caffeine that i can drink in the afternoon. Im a matcha girl, and thats what I drink in the morning. But as a mother of a 4 month old, I need a little more caffeine around noon time and my low-caffeine movie night and toasted walnut and nutty & spice just weren’t cutting it! So, I saw this “supreme pekoe” and had no idea what it was! (I am new to tea) but I was intrigued by the description of “graham cracker notes”. I picked up an ounce of it at David’s yesterday and just brewed a cup not even 5 minutes ago and its perfect!!! I added a little squirt of light agave to it and it tastes like a yummy “sweet tea”. The aroma is very comforting and I can see how they say “grain” or “graham cracker”. Im not tasting any graham crackerness lol but that could just because I had higher expectations because I am more of a flavored tea kinda gal…I brewed it for 6 minutes and did one perfect spoonful in a 14oz perfect mug. This tea is NOT bitter, which I love because for me I find black tea to be occasionally bitter and thats something I dislike about it. This tea is SO SMOOTH. Like, really smooth. I really enjoy that about it. Id totally recommend this tea to someone who’s looking for an enjoyable, non flavored tea that will give them a caffeine boost. I bet this would be good iced with sugar and a lemon slice in the summer time. #texassweettea

Another straight tea to sipdown today. This one I don’t mind at all. It’s a good quality tea. So I got 50g when it came out, so I could try it. It reminds me of regular orange pekoe tea, but has a sweetness to it that I like. I presume I could steep this a second time as well. I think it would be good with a touch of milk as well, but its just as good without. Very smooth. It’s not a favourite, but I do enjoy it.

Still sick, but felt up to a cup of non-medicinal tea this morning, my night meds still working. Last night, while picking up this year’s adorably spooky mug from DavidsTea, my wife also cashed in our three free 50g of tea. Blueberry Jam, Throat Rescue, and this, Supreme Pekoe.

It’s good! But it feels kinda flat to me. I keep taking another sip, expecting there to be more flavor. It’s just kinda one-note. When reaching for a straight black, I’ll keep my Nepal Black in stock, but I’m glad to have tried this one.

Ceylon Teas are the best.

This particular Ceylon is a high mountain one, which is synonmous with quality.

I get a pleasing nose from the tea; its warmth reminds me that Ceylon tea is like comfort food.

With sugar, it is so easily drinkeable. I can feel the umami dancing on the front of my tongue.

When mixed with water, this tea is as smooth as a darjeeling that is in my cupboard.

It reminds of a wine of high quality, that is too easy to drink.

At the same time, it’s a good value at $16 / 100g Cdn.

The only thing that I will mention is that you will need a fine sieve for this one. Even from the picture you csn tell that this is not a wiry tea. It looks almost like a gunpowder that was broken up. There was a considerable amount of tea dust at the botton of the cup which required filtering.

Also, the brewed leaf had pieces that were larger included.

Steeped this one Gong Fu earlier in the day;

Somewhat surprisingly, I think I actually liked my Western steeped cup of it with milk and honey better. It’s not that the Gong Fu version was bad, but it didn’t feel as rich or as smooth and I didn’t pick up on the same lovely graham notes I noticed in the Western cup.

I ended up doing five or six infusions of this one? Most were fairly medium bodied, kind of malty? Not actually all that floral, which was a bit surprising for a Ceylon tea as they’re usually quite floral. After the first infusion where the leaves were still opening up I started getting a bit of cocoa in the flavour profile. Second half of the infusion was rather autumnal, which I realize isn’t really a flavour per say. More of a feeling, I guess?

Yeah – not bad. Room for experimentation, for sure. Maybe Western steeping without the milk/honey is the way to go next?

The idea of using the Gong Fu method on a Ceylon has filled me with despair. :(

I’ve found, in general, that Gong Fu brewing black teas in general has not been the most successful of experiences: usually they aren’t bad, but I seem to far prefer them Western brewed. They lose flavour quickly with the Gong Fu method (I don’t think I’ve ever hit more than ten quality infusions with a black tea), and the flavour doesn’t evolve in the same way as other teas. Oolong are definitely my favourite to brew Gong Fu, as well as Pu’erh. Green/white have been hit or miss.
