Cream of the cup

Rich coconut. Creamy white chocolate. And a golden, buttery crust. Can anything top a coconut cream pie? It’s a dessert so dreamy, so fluffy, it’s like eating a deliciously retro cloud. If we had our way, we’d be snacking on coconut-filled custard 24/7. Lucky for us, this tea came along. It’s an unbelievably decadent blend of toasted coconut, white chocolate and cane sugar, all on a base of smooth-drinking oolong. The best part? It’s an all-natural blend. We’ve got pie hopes for this one…

Ingredients: Oolong tea, white chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, milk powder, butter oil, soy lecithin, vanilla extract), coconut, toasted coconut (coconut, sugar, dextrose, salt), cane sugar, natural coconut flavouring.

Contains coconut, milk, soy.

Steeped a bit strong and for a long time to really enjoy this as a milk-free, no sweetener required sipper. Not a rock star tea, but don’t mind it. A solid C+.

This tea was recently announced as retired, so I did the thing I tend to always do for newly retired teas; I brewed up a cup so that I could have a “farewell” cup of the tea and give it a proper goodbye.

I’m not gonna lie; I’ve never really been a fan of this one. I think it has a lot of ingredients in it that sour quite quickly which make it a tea that’s tricky to store long term – and it’s also HEAVILY sugared, which frustrates me. I like to add in my own sweetener, if I think a tea needs it, rather than have the decision made for me…

However, I know the people who did like this tea (though they seemed to be few and far between) loved it PASSIONATELY – and I emphasize with the sadness of having a favourite tea chopped. Especially as our oolong section dwindles even further.

This cup was thin and oily; not wonderful and pretty inline with most of the cups I’ve had of it. Kind of to be expected…

Goodbye Coconut Cream Pie! Salut!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

ugh. I won’t be missing this one either.

Aw, I will miss this one… though it is a tough one to hoard. I will drink some this week.

A friend of mine from overseas was in town, a friend whom I hoard all things coconut for: snacks, candies, body cream, and now tea. The DTs person helping me said that she preferred this one over DT’s Coconut Oolong, which I had gifted my friend with when she was last in town and then DTs discontinued that blend and it was gone when I stopped in to buy more. So, I picked this one up for the hoarding stash for my friend instead and then, somewhere at home, I mislaid the tea.

In the meantime, miraculously, Coconut Oolong reappeared in DTs stores again, so I bought a mountain of it and gave it with all my hoarded coconut somethings to my friend during our many outings in town when she was here.

I love it when friends from overseas visit. It always feels like I am on vacation in my own city when they are here and I am seeing the world with their fresh eyes.

Right then, so today I found this tea.

It’s ok. Just ok.

With DTs multi-fruit blends, it’s always tricky as to how much leaf to add. Not enough and it might be low on flavour and weak on actual tea. Too much and depending on just what imitation flavours are at work, you might be cooking up a cup of synthetic and/or super-sweet mouthfuls. Tricky thing.

I decided on a generous teaspoon full. The first cup was a big nope. Oil slick on the surface of the steeped tea. Some sort of bitter imitation flavour going on. I only managed to get through the first cup because I had some bittersweet chocolate with roasted almonds handy.

The second steep was ok. The imitation flavour and bitterness was mostly gone. Coconutty flavour, but then, there was some sort of not quite natural aftertaste.

And it’s a good thing I just came across the tea today. I would have been embarrassed to have gifted someone with it.

I might try it with less leaf next time. Or more bittersweet chocolate on standby.

Sorry for your disappointment. I’m glad to hear that brought Coconut Oolong back – that one is like liquid cake (at least to me!).

Right when I sipped mine down lol.

I originally got a small bag of this to try…only a few servings worth. I was disappointed and didn’t even review here, The flavour was weak and thin, and I had hoped for something richer and pie-like. In the back of my head I had said I wanted to try it as a latte, to see if that made a difference, and today was that day.

After my herbalist appointment at a local college, I stopped at DT as it was on the way home (just down the street from the school where the herbal clinic was). It had also gotten considerably windier and colder than it had been on my way up there a few hours earlier. I’d only had water up to that point (which is good), but I had wanted something hot on the way home to comfort me, and this did.

I’m not sure if my mental preparation for this being better as a latte, or the use of more tea to make the latte, or the latte treatment in general did the trick. Might be a little of everything. I think that the milk from the latte made it richer, and more pie like for me. I think the milk may have brought out a bit more coconut. It was still on the weak side, but maybe less weak? I’m curious how using coconut milk in this would be.

All in all, I might get a 25g bag to play with this more. I’m not sure it is worth it because you have to use so much more leaf to make a latte (or just a stronger brew), and oolongs are usually more expensive, but who knows….I might still do it.

was this a latte with soy milk or dairy?

Thin mouthfeel. Can pick up washed out coconut flavour. Diluted cream note. I can hardly detect any oolong in this one. Good sweetness which is light but not overpowering.

I just got this tea today and I couldn’t wait to get home so I could make it in my also brand new travel mug -the new raspberry pink carry travel mug (as mine self destructed and tried to kill my hand when I went to get it out of my bag).

I am a huge fan of oolong teas, I adore the earthy smooth flavours and so was very intrigued by the coconut, it seems these days that there is EVERYTHING coconut. My immediate reaction was to steer clear because quite frankly I have had enough of everything coconut but after smelling it and seeing how texturally beautiful the tea was I had to have it.

It is full of coconut, toasted coconut, white chocolate chips and those delicate rolled oolong tea leaves darkly contrasting the stark white of the coconut.

Now after burning myself in my haste to taste it, I find it to be a very mild flavoured tea but maintains the smooth oolong qualities you expect (now that could also be my tastebuds refusing to taste anything but HOT at the moment). I found the coconut flavour to kind of sneak up at the end as it was very much the earthy body of an oolong.

The toasted coconut gives this tea a lovely flavour which complements the nature of the oolong. Though I must say I am a bit disappointed that I am not finding the white chocolate notes as there were white chocolate chips in the tea itself however the natural cane sugar that is in there keeps it sweet without being overpowering. I would not suggest you add any sugar to this, but I am a purist and very seldom do I add anything to my teas.

Over all it is a nice light tea which gives a little bit extra with the coconut though more subtle than I thought it would be. A safe tea to have in any collection.

Borrrrrring. So glad I had only a sample of this. It was all coconut and pretty much nothing else. Not any different than most coconut teas I’ve had and I couldn’t even tell that it was an oolong. Bleh.
Also, I found it overly sweet. Nuff said.
It could do well as a thai soup base. Maybe.

Plunkybug

I just got some of this today. I had recalled it as a sample not too long ago and not being impressed, but I wanted to play with it at home. So I have like 2-3 steeps worth. Might try it as a latte.

Indigobloom

Let me know if it works out! I’m curious about the latte

Plunkybug

I had it regular, and meh, but have yet to try as a latte. Will let you know.

Plunkybug

I had a latte today, from the store. I don’t know if I mental prepared for it to be better, or if it as a latte was just comforting on my way home as it was quite cool and windy, but I really liked it. I think it was still a little weak, but I think the latte treatment brought out more of the cream pie aspect, and I think the coconut was a little stronger. I wonder how this would be if you used a bit of actual coconut milk in it….

I might consdider buying a bag of this to latte it. It was definitely more indulgent feeling this way.

Indigobloom

Coconut tends to be rather hit or miss for me. Oftentimes it just… doesn’t work for me. Even if it is sweet and rich etc. Wish I knew why, wasn’t always the case…

Tea reviews! I have tons of backlogged stuff, plus tons of other things I drank and never even recorded that I drank… everything is a big mess right now. Oh well. On the plus side, my computer is giving me minimal grief right now.

So this tea. I had high hopes, and then I remembered that my love of coconut in teas has waned somewhat. And yup, that’s about how it went. So probably tasty enough for someone who still really enjoys coconut teas, and who loves oolongs, but it wasn’t what I wanted (yet it was pretty much coconut cream pie… I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting. Perhaps more of a coconut milk flavour?)

I had the Raspberry Cream Pie way before I had this tea, and even though this tea tastes similar, the raspberry tastes ALOT better. It’s not a bad tea, I just would like something that had alittle more…depth or funkyness.

I wanted to love this. I love coconut. I love dessert teas. I’m beginning to love flavored oolong blends. It definitely tastes like coconut, but that’s all I taste really. I don’t get much chocolate flavor; I just get the oiliness of the white chocolate. I don’t get any flavoring that would resemble pie crust either. It’s too similar to, and not as good as, Chocolate Macaroon for me to keep the rest of my 50g bag.
