From DAVIDsTEA

Tasty pastry

Good mornings start with great breakfasts. And truly great breakfasts start with a hot cup of tea. This deliciously comforting black tea is a little taste of both. Inspired by the sweet and buttery taste of a warm apple strudel, it’s the perfect way to start any day. It’s got big pieces of apple, creamy coconut and nutty almonds, all in a base of black tea – for a much-needed caffeine dose. One cup of this and you’ll start looking forward to the alarm clock…

Price: $9.50 per 50g

I was really in a rush this morning so all I can remember about this tea is tart green apples and stevia…(bleh)

Ugh, that’s all it is, anyway.

Another one that had potential.

This tea was NOT what i was expecting at all! You would think apple strudel: Some flaky apple goodness. Nope! This tea tastes like a sour apple green Jolly rancher. ( I guess if you like those this tea is good for you though). I wanted to give it a 0 but figured it was still drinkable so i should be a little kind.

Apples and yumminess in a 50g bag. This is another one of David’s Tea teas that is great to have after supper. I’ve yet to try it as a latte… Yep, I do recommend this one.

I don’t know why I rated this in the 50s… This tea is now one of my top 5. I love it, it’s sweet, and appley and just delicious. Can’t believe they discontinued it, already. This is also a tea I don’t taste the coconut in. So yay!

Shockingly, this is amazing. The staffer told me she too was surprised with it, so I grabbed some to check. No sweetener needed, it’s rich, it actually tastes like a crumbly apple strudel. I’d say this is one of the first apple read teas I’ve really enjoyed.

How did you prepare this tea to find amazing?

MissB

Less than boiling (not sure how much, but it’s the same as every flavored tea I steep), and about 3 minutes. On my phone or I’d have put it in the proper place. :)

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you, MissB. I will steep again. So far, it has not been amazing for me. But I haven’t given up completely yet.

TeaBrat

How come you rated it a 73?

This one was a let down – I think I was spoiled by the apple flavoring that Celestial Seasonings uses because this apple is .. meh. I would say that the apple is similar to the apple in David’s Big Apple, but this is strongly overpowered by everything else. It’s very difficult to pull out what the other flavors in it are – it’s layered but not necessarily in a good way and it doesn’t taste like baked goods like I had hoped it might. The black base is actually quite prominent but it doesn’t really help, I feel like to go for an apple strudel flavoring they should have gone for a rooibos base or a straight herbal.

Sipdown (100)

Apple strudel flavoring is still pretty accurate in this cup, despite oversteeping. It’s a little sweeter than the last cup and a little flat but still a nice cuppa. I don’t know if I am rubbing out to restock but I wouldn’t turn away a cup either.

Evol Ving Ness

This one didn’t really do it for me. Am I missing something? Did you add anything to it? Did you use cooler water? What am I missing?

VariaTEA

I used 200F water and didn’t add anything. It worked best at that temp for 3:30

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you. I will give that a go the next time I try.

Trying again with milk and sugar, and this is so much tastier. I get a lot of sweet creamy apple this time around, though I still wouldn’t call this apple strudel. Maybe a non-custardy Apple Custard. I’ll finish this off tomorrow with breakfast.

Evol Ving Ness

Yeah, this tea is a disappointment. Currently drinking Apple Custard with milk and there’s no comparison.

I wonder if maybe Apple Strudel would work if brewed strong and served with milk? Because the four times that I’ve made it so far, it’s been hopeless. Perhaps I gave it too light a touch?

Fjellrev

Yeah, milk seems to make this one a lot more tolerable. And I too prefer Apple Custard.

sundaysipping

Apple Custard is much better. I’ve been using a tablespoon of Apple Strudel per 16oz of water and adding a teaspoon of sugar and some milk. It seems to help, but this isn’t really a tea that’s good on it’s own. Too bad, too – I was excited for this one.

Evol Ving Ness

Maybe even a bit of cream.

Yes, me too. I had rather high hopes for this one. Dashed.

My mom just sipped this down. She likes the apple flavour but can’t stand that stevia. “Why do they do this?!” I know, Mom, I know. Many of us are baffled.

Maddy Barone

I figure if I want the tea to be a bit sweeter, I can add my own darn sweetener!

Kristal

haha why do they do that indeed…

Plunkybug

I just picked this up today and didn’t notice til I got it home that it had stevia in it. Sigh…I’ll give it a try. Lucky I only got 10g and I can look at passing this on to a friend if i don’t like it.

Curse you, DT for enticing me to set some more samples! My sample tray is actually overflowing… I really should get at finishing some of those teas, LOL.

Anyway. The smell of this one is AMAZING, and I’m excited to have an apple-flavoured black tea (all of the other ones I’ve tried are either greens or herbals, I think). I’m not too fussy on the addition of coconut, but (thankfully?) I didn’t really taste it in my cup. I’m trying not to get too attached to this one, since (naturally) it’s limited edition, but I definitely would not hesitate to get more of this one if I had the space, LOL.

Kristal

Haha, I was just saying to Fay on steepster here about how DAVIDs has been constantly putting out new, limited edition teas to suck me back into to buying more tea when I don’t need it. Luckily, I’m good for dessert teas right now + haven’t been having them as much, so I’m safe for now ;)

Fay

One is never truly safe from tea. I’ve been trying to limit myself to trying new teas in stores (my mom and I tend to go before my dance class on Thursdays). It’s not very cost effective, but it’s better than buying a sample of every tea that comes out when I already have an overflowing cupboard. I’ll probably try this one next week.

raven22

Dessert teas aren’t my favourite, either, so buying a lot of these won’t be a problem. I just seem to want to try ALL OF THE TEA that DAVIDs puts out, haha.

Kristal

raven22, I feel you! That was me for the longest time. I did, however, have to try ALL of the feel good collection + their tea of the month for January. February is right around the corner, so depending on the ingredients list that tea of the month may need to be tried out as well. Luckily, within the past week I’ve used up about 5 different types of tea + I’m one cup away from using up another I’ve been trying to get rid of for forever. So that make’s me feel good ;)

Fay, I absolutely agree that no one is safe! Haha. And whatever works for you for trying to keep your cupboard at a minimum. I must admit, I only occasionally actually go into DAVIDs or other stores for tea so I do buy small samples of stuff when I am interested in a tea. I’m at the point where I’m hesitant to commit to buying 50g+ of tea cause I’m trying not to let any of them sit for more than a year. I find work is an awesome place to use up stuff I’m kind of “meh” about ;)

raven22

I’m making a lot of iced tea lately, so I’m using up a lot of the teas I purchased over the summer but never got around to using. That’s taking care of a lot of the stash, but I still have soooo much to weed through, LOL
