From DAVIDsTEA

Merci buchu!

Buchu has been flying under the radar for years, but we’re determined to spread the good word about this smooth-drinking herb. Traditionally used as a detox herbal ingredient in its native South Africa, it has a smooth, black currant-like taste that keeps us coming back for more. Here, we paired it with fruity goji berries – the tasty, much-loved super berry from traditional Chinese medicine. This is one detox ritual we could definitely get used to.

Ingredients:
Organic: Black currants, blackberry leaves, green rooibos, goji berries, strawberries, buchu, blueberries, acai, stevia extract. With natural acai and raspberry flavouring.

Price per 50g: $9.50

Damn, DAVIDsTEA, Y U NO listen to your customers? Stevia, stevia, and more stevia. I’m sure if you took a poll, the vast majority of customers do not want that stuff in there. This would have been great without it, I’d say. Aside from the stevia, black currant is in the forefront, and is supported by a mixture of other berries. Smart move on the green rooibos, at least. It goes so well with the berries.

Kristal

Wasn’t big on this tea either :/

Indigobloom

gross!! bleh

OMGsrsly

Haha. When they asked “what can we improve” on twitter, I asked for no stevia. They said they put sweetener in the tea so it tastes perfect. But a lot of people added to and liked my comment.

Fjellrev

Taste perfect to whom? A small handful of nut jobs at HQ? Tsk tsk.

OMGsrsly

EXACTLY!!

Indigobloom

@OMGsrsly – do you mean this? I don’t see any comments about stevia

OMGsrsly

No. They asked what they could improve. Back in IDK… November? Something like that.

OMGsrsly

“Stevia is added to some teas to get them to taste as awesome as they smell. That said we’re happy to pass along the feedback!”

Indigobloom

Ah. Gotcha!

tigress_al

Why oh why don’t they listen?

Fjellrev

Methinks they’re snorting the stuff and lost their minds.

OMGsrsly

Hahahaha. :D That’s an interesting image, Fjellrev. “Let’s sniff some more green stuff!” “Uhh, guys… that’s the powdered stevia…”

So I wasn’t sure about this one but I want some thing new and herbal given the 4 cups of black tea I’ve already had today, so it at least fit the bill.

The first note is predictably fruity/berry-y. Blackberry seems dominant. Unfortunately there’s this off putting not that I can’t put my finger on. I feel like it’s kind of woody, so maybe it’s the rooibos, but I wouldn’t swear by it. The aftertaste is fairly nice and rather bizarrely reminded me of a cheesecake covered in berries and berry sauce—yummy! Too bad the tea doesn’t taste like the aftertaste.

Flavors: Berries, Blackberry, Cheesecake, Fruity, Wood

Kristal

I didn’t care for this one either. It’s the only one of the “feel-good collection” I did not like

Fay

Same here so far, though I’ve yet to try Hangover Helper and Live Wire Lemon.

raven22

I liked this once better iced would that be an option for you to try?

Fay

Hmm…I might give that a go one day. Thanks for the tip!

Another sample…

This one smells fruit and sweet and mmmm. I’m always hesitant about stevia, but I didn’t mind it in this one. I drank this one hot, though I might use what I’ve got left to make and iced tea, as I generally like fruit teas better in that form.

Another from the Feel-good collection. This is the only one I didn’t like (glad I only picked up 8g of each!). The initial taste is alright but the aftertaste of the stevia make it seem almost artificial. I drank it hot, mind you, but I had to force it down. In order to use up the last little bit, I will drink down some of the blueberry iced tea in my fridge and pour in a mug of this. It should pair well together and the stevia will be masked.

Wow, cold brewing this one is a definite no.

It’s insanely, stupidly, horrifically sweet with a slight edge of medicinal flavour. It almost takes me back to the nightmare that was “Currant Affairs” which is DEFINITELY in my top three “Worst DAVIDsTEA blends of all time” alongside the cherry cola one and Queen of Tarts. Nope nope nope.

Into the box of packed teas you go…

OMGsrsly

Hahahaha. Cherry Cola. Oh that was so bad. I wonder, is it still the lowest rated tea here on Steepster? Yes, yes it is. The only other lower rated tea has 0 tasting notes, so I’m not going to count it. :) (It’s on page 1424 of all teas by rating at this time…)

Roswell Strange

Right down there with Aloha Pu’erh, which I never got to try but sounds AWFUL.

OMGsrsly

I think if I had to go back in time, I’d definitely try to taste more of the “worst teas”. Hahaha. My poor taste buds. :)

TheKesser

oh man Cherry Cola… So bad…

Kristal

Can’t say I cared for this one either

Roswell Strange

@Kristal I REALLY liked it hot, but the cold brew… Nope. I’m gonna keep experimenting though: I did buy 50g so I’ll get to play with this one for a while.

Kristal

Fair enough! Glad you like it in some way, anyways ;)
