From DAVIDsTEA

Cookie of the year

Happiness is…the smell of gingerbread cookies baking in the oven. Warming up with a perfect cup of tea. And sharing something sweet with your family and friends. And with this sweet and toasty tea, you can have all three at once. We started with a smooth base of rooibos, then added a sweet hint of maple and molasses. Then we warmed it up with spicy cinnamon and crystallized ginger. Finally, we added a dash of yerba maté for an energizing kick. With this in your tea cupboard, happiness is just a steep away…

I’m sampling the last of my unopened/new teas so I can determine whether or not to add them to my overflowing sell/swap bin.

I definitely get gingersnaps from this blend despite the lengthy ingredient list. Currants and candied pineapple? Random. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it. I don’t care for oiliness that ends up on the roof of my mouth.

I was hoping to like it a bit more than I do because it has a roobios and mate base like my all-time favorite mate from DT, Honeydew Mate. This blend, however, reminds me (a lot) of Pumpkin Mate with more spice. So if you enjoyed that you might like this as well.

Sadly, this tea does not compare to my beloved Honeydew Mate. I’m positive that this would be completely overlooked among the other mate blends in my collection, so it definitely needs to be re-homed.

I guess it was an okay tea, I thought I would like it from the way it smelled but I quickly learned that wasn’t the case. I guess I’m not a fan of ginger or anything similar to that because I’ve been starting to notice most teas I try that have similar ingredients as this tea haven’t been that great. Although it seems like a great tea, just not one for me.

This is my first mate tea and I hated it. To me it smells like a candle when steeped, and I don’t really want to be drinking a candle. I usually love almost everything I get from David’s Tea, but I took one sip of it and I want to throw the rest of it out. I didn’t taste any of the gingerbread at all.

This is a tasty rooibos, with nice rich vanilla/caramel undertone. If someone asked me to name it, I don’t know if I’d say “Gingerbread Cookie”, but it does taste like a molassesey cookie. I love when teas taste like I’m having a decadent dessert, and that’s what this one reminds me of.

This isn’t a bad tea, but it’s pretty bland. The gingerbread taste is a lot weaker than I expected it to be. Definitely still drinkable and I do enjoy it, but I probably wouldn’t repurchase.

Trying this one right now, a bit late from my advent calendar. It’s alright. It kind of tastes like caramel corn rather than the molassesy-gingery taste I was looking forwards to from the smell. Something in this is a weird taste, but I am unsure of what. Perhaps the maple sugar or crystallized ginger. it gives me a mucous-y mouthfeel (don’t know how else to describe that… like when you have a really tart candy?) that coats my mouth. I can’t say I am much of a fan of this one. I was hoping for a richer taste and better flavour.

So I kind of fell off my map with the last few days of the 24 days of tea. Once 2 of my jobs were done I stopped keeping up with logging. Sorry about that.

Anywho, I was skeptical of this tea from the begging. Reason why: DAVIDs had a “gingerbread” tea before that tasted only like rooibos to me. As for this tea? Yep, woody rooibos with a SLIGHT hint of sweetness from the white chocolate chips. Glad it was just a sample.

Before trying the tea I read over some of the most recent reviews and found myself worried that I might not like it. I hoped for the best anyway. Once steeped, the smell enveloped the entire room better than any air freshener that I could buy! Smelled promising! I added some agave nectar to my mug and left the bag in (which I purposely over leafed). Luckily for me, I don’t agree with the negative reviews. It just goes to show that everyone’s tastes are different. I thought this tea was a nice treat. It did remind me of a gingerbread cookie and that’s all I could really ask for. I will enjoy this on cold winter nights while bundled up in my blanket, relaxing, watching television. This tea will undoubtedly help me get through the long, cold winter.
