Backlogged; this was just bubblegum to me. I didn’t like it very much, though I loved the mulled cider we made at work today. Not sure what is causing that association here.

Grabbed a tiny bit of this while at DAVIDs; the staffer suggested I “had” to try it. It really does smell and taste like mulled wine, surprisingly. The oolong works well with the spices – I honestly believed this would be something I’d have to add wine to, for “authenticity”. Nope, it’s surprisingly good as-is, if a bit, um, watery. Glad I tried it, will happily finish it, that’s about it.

I can’t think about anything but bubblegum when I smell this one. But a coworker loves it.

MissB

Yes!! It definitely smells like bubblegum, I was more than a bit surprised.

This was in the 24 Days of Tea, so I thought I would review it! Also I am procrastinating studying…it’s finals season – YAY (extreme sarcasm).

Anyways, I bought a skinny tin of this tea when it came out in the winter collection so that I could try it at home. I figured by the smell that I would like it, so I just figured ‘What the heck!’ and bought it. I didn’t think that it smelled like bubblegum until someone in the store said it smells like bubblegum. Now, it is all I smell. I did think the fragrance was very strong and fruity when I smelled it, but I still thought I’d try it (I’m also not really a fan of hot fruity teas, so I really don’t know why I purchased this at all lol).

The fragrance is very strong, but it doesn’t taste super strong. Also, I have just left the tea bag in while drinking it and it hasn’t become overpoweringly strong at all, which surprised me. I do get notes of cloves, but it is definitely more orange-y than anythng. I’m not upset about that though, because I was expecting it to be a cinnamon-y cider which I’m not a fan of. It kind of reminds me of a fruit punch. I’ve never had mulled wine, so I’m not sure if it is true to it’s name or not.

I would drink this again, and I have to because I have about 40 grams of it left haha. I won’t be upset when it is gone, but it’ll have been a good run.

Advent calendar [17/24]

Sidenote: I believe I am getting sick. Perhaps it’s a cold, perhaps it’s all the sugary junk I’ve been eating combined with my holiday time stress. All I want to eat is terrible food.

I opened the tin up this morning and gagged at the smell. It was way too strong. The strange thing is, it tastes nothing like it smells.

The reviewer who noted that this tea tastes like cheap already-been-chewed bubblegum hit the nail on the head.

I’m not entirely sure what I’m supposed to be tasting. I can taste clove and lemon with a weird aftertaste. I was really looking forward to this oolong because I thought it’d be sweet, sour and cinnamon-like. I thought it would be like a hot sangria or a hot cider. This tea doesn’t resemble either of those, apart from the citrusy feel.

I’m going to resteep this one later tonight. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish this cup.

I hate bubblegum teas :(
Luckily for me, I get that with this one only when it’s cooled

Fjellrev

Oh no, I hope you aren’t getting sick.

Alyssa

Thanks guys :). Indigobloom, I guess that means you’d have to sip it fast.

Indigobloom

Yup!! tiny and fast sips haha. Hope you’re feeling better!

Day 17/24 of 24 Days of tea

This is one of the winter collection teas so i was interested in trying it. I’ve never tried mulled wine so my review isn’t based on how close this tastes to actual mulled wine or anything. I brewed this tea weak as precaution due to a sensitive stomach. The smell is fruity and the taste is primarily citrus with a bit of a mineral taste near the end from the oolong. Nice for a wintery day off! Next time I’ll brew it at 185F instead of 175F and maybe a minute more. Altogether I enjoyed this one.

Got this in a holiday sampler.

Dry leaf smells exactly like cheap bubblegum. Brewed tea smells exactly like cheap bubblegum. Brewed tea tastes exactly like cheap bubblegum that’s already been chewed for an hour and has no flavor left.

Have you ever had mulled wine? I’ve only tried it with red wine. Can you make white mulled wine? This tea reminds me of what I imagine mulled white wine would taste like.
When hot, I found it quite tasty, and was kinda cursing DT for making a tea that I may have to stock in my cupboard. But then as it cooled, well it pops a bit less and takes on a sort of bubblegummy note. I noticed it in the dry scent as well.
The flavours do meld together quite well though. Hey! Actually, you know what it reminds me of? Mulled beer! I had some at the Christmas Market last weekend. Yep. Forget what I said earlier about white wine!! Either way, I’m ok with it. Just not in love. Maybe I’m in like?
So while I may buy a tiny bit more for the cupboard at some point, if they have any in stock, I won’t be rushing to the store or anything.

Fjellrev

I’ve had mulled wine, or at least Glühwein and glögg, and you most definitely can make it with white wine instead. Now you make me want that!

Indigobloom

Mmmmm one day I’ll try making myself some, it sounds amazing!! cheers ;)

Today I am going to have at least one pot of something I am not enthusiastic about, in an attempt to sip it down and try and get my cupboard in better order. And todays pot is this blend, from a holiday collection a couple of years ago. That should tell you how unenthusiastic I am about it.
Its not a bad tea, but its not well blended. I should be happier with an oolong with these notes, but the spice and citrus do not seem to go well with the oolong base.
Ah well. I will work on this more regularly until its drunk down.

Indigobloom

I added actual wine to mine :P

Rosehips

That would make it much better!

Indigobloom

I thought so too hehe

I tried this one the other day and it’s not half bad. It mostly reminds me of mulled wine, rather than tasting exactly like mulled wine. But it’s a nice winter, holiday type tea.

Fjellrev

Haven’t tried it yet, but I wonder what it would be like if you added red wine to it?

Sil

hmmmm that would be a fun experiment heh
