I did a taste of this tea while in the store and despite my love for all things peanut butter, especially the peanut butter cup, I am never going to love it in my tea. It tasted wrong…

Evening herbal.

Remarkable that this does not contain peanuts. Matches beautifully with a square or two of chocolate.

This packet is now done (although I have another bit somewhere in a separate tin container).

And it is a sipdown!

TastetheTea

Im not a fan of Davids tea, I find it too sweet, but I really love Peanut Butter cups! This is tempting for sure!

Roswell Strange

I really loved this one too; definitely one that I have some regrets about not buying more of. It was from before when I started working at DT but from what I’ve heard from those who worked while it was sold it wasn’t super popular. I guess there was a lot of customer confusion about whether or not it had peanuts in it which led to a lot of people with allergies getting upset or just avoiding the store in general because of the allergen concerns…

Sadly, I’d bet that’ll mean it probably wont make a reappearance – which IMO is sad. I hope I’m proven wrong, though!

Fjellrev

I loved this one at first and ripped through so much but as a result, got sick of it. But wouldn’t mind seeing it again someday anyway!

Evol Ving Ness

I kind of waffled with this one, initially, between loving it and feeling that it was weak and lacking the needed richness. Coming back to it was grand though, I have to say.

Evol Ving Ness

I thought Nutty by Nature was a bit of a replacement for it, no?

Roswell Strange

@Evol

You’re probably thinking Nutty Granola Crunch? It was similar though, just without the chocolate and with the rooibobs base. I’m doubtful we’ll see that one again either though; wasn’t super well received…

Evol Ving Ness

Yes! You’re right, it was that one.

TastetheTea

The aroma of Nutty Granola Crunch made me want to vomit!!!

I have a peanut allergy, and I’ve had it for my whole life. HUGE props to DavidsTea for making a peanut tea with no peanuts!!!! That makes me feel very included and loved. :3 thanks, Davids!!

However, I really don’t know how to feel about this tea, because when I smell it my brain goes “peanuts! you must not drink this!!”

I overcame my fears and had a bit in store and liked the nutty taste, and I will probably pick up a bag at some point just because it’s a peanut thing I can actually have. I gave it a rating of 59 because while my taste buds kinda like it, it felt like I was doing something wrong when I drank it, due to the almost 25 years of staying away from peanuts like the plague. Having never eaten a peanut butter cup, I can’t attest to how much it tastes like an actual one.

EDIT: So I picked up a bag. It’s yummy but bland at the same time.

Patricia

It smells exactly like peanut but cups but it doesn’t taste like it at all … Peanut butter cups don’t taste like apples!

Alison

That makes sense Patricia! I’m actually drinking a cup now and it’s actually sour like a green apple. It makes sense that peanut butter cups don’t taste like that! haha

Delicious smell but disconcerting apple taste. I mean, it’s not bad. But because of the marketing, it wasn’t what I was expecting and I was disappointed.

My kettle has settings for 200 and 212, so I thought I’d try the lower temperature since officially 205 is recommended. I think I prefer boiled water. At 200, I just don’t think enough flavor was extracted.

I first got this tea as a 5g sample in my most recent online order from DAVIDs. I tried it hot, and it was quite good, but decided to wait until now to review it because I knew it would be great as a latte.

Indeed I was right! I brewed up 4 “perfect spoonfuls” (approx 10 tsp) in my steeper with 8oz of boiled water. Brewed for at least 5 min, and added maybe 1/2 tsp of sugar and hot, frothed 1% milk. The result is chocolatey with a bit of nutty aftertaste. Delish. Although the main ingredient in this tea is apple, you don’t taste it (although you can sense there is something “different” underneath the chocolate flavour). The only negative thing I can say about this tea is that it’s seasonal and SO heavy. 50 grams might give me 2.5 lattes? I guess that’s why lattes are a treat for me…

I really love this one. Bought a 50 gram bag from the store and now have 250 grams more on it’s way.

Kristal

nice! I did the same with Spiced Pumpkin a while ago

CelticBrew

Cool glad to hear good things about that one too. Spiced pumpkin is also enroute in the same order as my Peanut Butter Cup bag.

Kristal

Nice :) I hope you like it!

I was very skeptical of this tea, so I was very glad to get a chance to try this as a free sample. I brewed this hot and let it steep for a good long time. The dry leaf smelled promising, lots of cocoa and nut flavor, which was surprising considering the first ingredient is “apple.” After a good long steeping, I gave it a try and am thoroughly surprised. This tea actually does taste like a chocolate peanut butter cup. Not artificial, not too sweet. The cocoa and chocolate flavor really benefits from the fatty peanut flavor. Usually, chocolate teas are a bit too watery or weird, but having a peanut pairing gives body and balance. This tea was not bad without milk or sweetener, but probably not something I would drink on a regular basis. However, I saw in their blog that David’s Tea intended for these fall flavors to be best as lates, so I added a good splash of almond milk to my cup and tried again. Having a creamy base really adds to the full mouthfeel and dessert quality of the tea, and this would likely be an amazing late for a decadent fall treat. This is a crazy idea for a tea but it actually delivers on chocolate peanut butter flavor. Worth a try if you are curious!

DAVIDsTEA’s Fall Collection has been out for a little while now, but I’m just getting the chance to try the new teas in it. To me, this is definitely the most interesting one they’ve come up with this year; and if it actually delivers on the flavour then I think it could be a really unique, interesting dessert tea staple for late night sugar cravings!

Like tends to happen every season, this is a seriously heavy tisane so if you’re picking any up for yourself keep that in mind and know that 50g probably isn’t going to stretch super far. It does smell really decadent though with really creamy chocolate notes and a sweet, creamy and powerful peanut aroma. All combined, it really creates a solid, easily comparable smell to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I have to wonder how they got the peanut to come across so clearly when there isn’t actually any peanut in the blend (just almond). Having had a few peanut teas, I can say that I’ve been really let down by ‘peanut’ flavoured things that use artificial flavours. My experience is that you need the real thing to get the flavour across. But this tisane could easily break that trend.

I’ve read that people find this weird hot, and it’s better cold (or as a latte) but I decided to make my mug hot because I actually thought that would be the best way to serve it and I think cold brewing a tisane so heavy would be a big waste of leaf. The smell is very rich and reminds me of extra creamy peanut butter: the kind that gets stuck to the roof of your mouth and you can still faintly taste like half an hour after finishing it.

The taste is surprisingly accurate; I’d say it’s more peanut than chocolate, but that the chocolate is very creamy and sweet. I think DAVIDsTEA really, really achieved what they set out to do with this blend. Now, that said, it does have a little bit of an oily mouthfeel, which is relatively inescapable when you’re using chocolate chips, and the flavor is a little bit thin. I can see people either really liking this one or finding it incredibly weird or disappointing. Personally, I didn’t realize quite how much I liked it until I had finished the mug and had the immediate urge to go resteep the leaves again, which I NEVER do with tisanes. My second mug was also pretty thin tasting, and didn’t pack much of a chocolate punch but the peanut notes were still really strong.

Again, I very much want to know how they got the peanut flavor accurate. I’m sure there are gonna be a lot of people with peanut allergies hoarding this…

Haha I’m afraid to try it because it smells soo peanut-y, my brain thinks I will have a reaction to it! :D

Kristal

I got a 5 gram sample and I brewed it hot; it was really good, but I want to try it as a latte before reviewing. Although, that means 50gram will stretch even less :(

Indigobloom

I’m curious to try it but… artificial flavours! Also I find it interesting that the website description says “low” caffeine even though its an herbal. Maybe they mean the cocoa?

Kristal

I’m pretty sure it’s low caffiene due to the cocoa

Indigobloom

Must be! still, I imagine its incredibly low

CelticBrew

Now I really want to try this.

Kristal

Tried it as a latte. My review will be up in a matter of minutes :)

This one… hmmm. It REALLY smells like peanut butter cups but it kinda tastes like nothing xD I steeped it hot with water but other comments have said to steep it in milk for more flavor. I will try it with almond milk (can’t handle lactose), WILL UPDATE
UPDATE: it was okay, a little strange. Would be a nice kind of warm treat (sorta), I had it cold the next day wasn’t as good.
