500th tasting note!! :D
Thanks for this one Shmiracles! The flavor is pretty nice. It’s minty, spicy, and has a nice licorice touch to it. It’s very smooth and the flavors blend well. The clove kind of lingers in the aftertaste. I’m not a huge fan of clove in teas but I really like it in this one.

I’m trying to sip these up as quick as I can to try and move the Traveling Tea Box off ASAP…there are a LOT of teas in this box, folks!! Seriously!

This one smells nice and minty but there are a bunch of other things going on in there as well!

Herbally, Minty, Bean-Like…near Lima Bean…almost a Yerba Mate type flavor at times, too! I do like that the Mint shines, here, tho!

The more I sip this the more I like it. Would be perfect after a heavy meal!

Lala

This one is really good iced/cold brewed as well, IMO.

I forgot about this!

This was the third sample from my David’s Tea order but since I don’t really like mint, and my boyfriend does – I passed it along to him. Well, he didn’t really like it, and since I wanted something not too caffeinated with my dinner, and there was about 1.5 tsp. of this left…. it was a no-brainer.

And you know – it’s actually kind of good! I think it’s because of all the other spices in it, since like I said, I don’t really like mint on its own. But this – it’s like a mint chai, if you will. Which explains why the bf wasn’t too crazy over it – he’s not a fan of super spicy anything. I happen to love bold flavors and chai. This tea is an extra kind of fun, too, because normally with spicy flavors your mouth has a residual heat – and this fakes you out because the mint is so cooling instead.

I wouldn’t order it again because I just don’t drink mint often enough, but this was quite fun. And if I ever do want a mint tea – at least I know what I need to get!

I love flavorful mint teas. I might have to try this one.

JoonSusanna

It is definitely flavorful – I really do love the complexity of it. I think the problem I usually have with mint teas is their one-note kind of flavor. Here you definitely get more going on!

Backlogging

Repurchased this because my hubby’s sinuses bother him during the colder months. The combination of peppermint, ginger and black pepper does the trick for him. Plus I believe the hojicha is a bit lower in caffeine, so since he works late it’s okay to make a pot of this when he comes home.

Personally, it has definitely grown on me. Not a favourite, but I like the spice combination. Some of the other teas you can get for the sniffles have ingredients I don’t like. Such as Gail’s Cold Remedy, which has lemon grass (gross!).

So overall I like this tea, but if I drink it too often it can rub me the wrong way. I increased the rating from last time, because it’s a cold season staple in our home.

My wife adores this tea for when she gets her migraines. Occasionally, I’ll reach for a cup, but not often.

De

I do drink it a lot for migraines, but I agree that it can rub the wrong way. I can usually only do one cup at a time. I think it’s the licorice in it, it just gets stuck in the back of my throat. Which is too bad.

Dorothy

Yeah the combination of spices and licorice is pretty potent. The first time I sniffed the DAVIDs canister I wanted to sneeze. I guess it is like putting too much of one spice in a dish; a little bit is nice but a lot is revolting.

Dry Leaf Nose: Minty with cardomom and spice.

Liquor: Medium brown/medium greens, with a minty, spicy, and cardomom nose.

Flavour: Complex and sweet – a very special African Mint tea, as it incprporates more than just the usual mint and tea. The cardamom, ginger, peppercorns and mints play well together and the hojicha is an excellent and unusual base for such a tea.

I have been travelling for the holidays, which has meant living off tetley tea bags (gasp). However, while the bf was running an errand at the mall, I snuck into a DT and picked up a tin of this.

First few sips, interesting, liked the mint was intrigued by the strength of the other spices. Surprisingly, I really liked it.

One caveat though, I found that with a longer steep the fennel started to really sneak in and I was a little less in love with the taste. However, given a properly timed steep, I found this tea delightful. It is a nice alternative to my other mint teas. I am glad I picked some up to try.

TeaLady441

One tip, and sorry if I"m speaking out of turn – try not to buy tins of teas that you haven’t tried before! I did that when I first starting at DAVIDs and ended up with tea that took me years to drink because they weren’t what I hoped for. 20g bags are your friend. :P

I really like this tea. It’s one I probably never would have tried on my own, but a friend rec’d it and I’m happy I gave it a shot. It’s not often I have pepper in tea.

mewakeling

I hear you on the tins, I have more than a couple that are probably great teas but are not great for me teas. What saves me with mint is that, if I don’t like it, it is the one type of The I know the bf will drink regardless of what it is blended with . That being said, thanks for the reminder, I am so used to having to buy online I forget that I can get smaller amounts in the store (and I have a ridiculous teachers need for symmetry and matching tins which does not always help me…)

TeaLady441

Hahahha, yeah I understand wanting all the pretty tins, and colour coordinating them etc. :)

I’ve had this tea since last fall. I think it was one of my first major purchases when I started getting hardcore into teas! Unfortunately I am rarely in the mood for mint in my tea, so I still have probably an ounce or so of it just wasting away in my tea drawer. I really need to organize my tea and maybe put up a swap list of stuff I need help drinking down! Maybe this weekend I’ll get on that.

ANYWAY, this tea really isn’t that bad or anything. It sort of reminds of of a chai in a way. (I haven’t been in the mood for chai in a long time, either! Interesting.) Its really light on the caffeine front too, which is generally very good for me! I get a lot of cardamon and mint mostly. I could use a pick me up this afternoon though so I might choose something a bit stronger later in the afternoon…

So hubby and I made the long trek yesterday from the east (central) part of Canada to the western part to come home for Christmas. I gave my mom an advent calendar for her birthday, so we went got home she brewed DAY 16’s tea for us to enjoy together. I don’t think she brewed it properly, and I may have pointed this out and been called a tea snob….

It was spicy, but I felt like the mint was subdued. I think it was over-steeped and I’m going to try remaking it myself this afternoon.

I’m about one cup away from a sipdown on this one so I thought I’d tell you all about it again!

Spicy but so good, especially if you add some sugar. I’m still reading “a thousand splendid suns” and they drink quite a bit of tea in this book. So I put some instrumental African music on Songza, made this tea and it makes me thoroughly enjoy my Sunday. My partner is away for the week and it’s totally awesome. :)

It is minty and sweet and spicy and it hits the spot. I can totally fantasize about Egypt.

TheTeaFairy

Aww, this note totally made me travel…

Too bad, I don’t have that book in my Overdrive :-(
Is it good so far?

Nxtdoor

It’s really good! I was wait listed about 9 months. Lol

Nxtdoor

Fairy, we should watch “Cairo Time”. Not sure you’d like it but what the hey, worth a shot.

I normally love this tea, but it really didn’t work for me today. It was just too strong, even the second steep. I think I’ll use a little less leaf next time. I’m a bit disappointed, I was so looking forward to a few cups of this to soothe my achies a bit before having to go out tonight.
