From DAVIDsTEA

Lately, everyone seems to be buzzing about this tea. But who can blame them? With so many super-energizing ingredients, it’ll probably get you buzzing, too. It’s got the stimulating kick of guarana, matcha and yerba mate, plus a hint of white ginseng – Chinese medicine’s key to vital energy. Add super-healthy green tea, zesty citrus and a spicy hint of ginger, and you’ve got an energizing blend you can feel great about drinking.

This tea is bright and citrusy with a nice ginger burn at the end. Aptly named as well – I am usually buzzing with energy after drinking this. Overall a very pleasant tea which I will absolutely buy again.

I think DavidsTea often gets a bad rap around here for some reason. I find that their teas are consistently delicious – I really don’t understand all the tea snobbery. :\

From my queue.

First time I had this one was when I was just starting to get sick and it hadn’t quite sunk in just how sick I was gonna be – I decided I was going to try this cold brewed because it has a few qualities to it that seemed like they’re work for a ‘preemptive’ sick tea; AKA ginger and lemon.

Steeped/brewed up, this is super super foggy. And I know that’s ‘cause of the matcha in the blend – but damn. It looked like swampwater; very gross. And the smell, ugh. I don’t know why but the word “antibacterial” comes to mind. Which I suppose is what I was hoping for in a way; but also very much not.

Taste wise, this is really, really lemon-y with a strong ginger aftertaste. I also registered licorice, which didn’t really mesh well with the other flavours. I’m quite sure that licorice flavour was from the ginseng in the blend. The matcha and green tea are a little less robust; it’s hard to compete with that intense of a lemon flavour, after all. On the whole; I found this pretty gross – it reminded me of lemon scented Pledge or Neo Citron or a mix of the two.

However, at the time of having this I wrote off the distaste as more of a combination of my being sick and of the ginger, of which I’m not the biggest fan to begin with. Having tried this again; I think I can definitely say more confidently that it’s just not good.

One thing is certainly true though; it is super caffeinated. DT basically went “yeah, just dump in everything that’s even sorta caffeinated – that’ll do the trick” and while it created a potent, gnarly flavour it’s a shift workers savior. Like an “instant pick me up”. So, that does redeem the flavour at least a little!

M

Good info. I was planning on trying this one next. Maybe I still might, just to see how powerful the caffeine boost is.

1.5 tsp for 300mL water @85C, steeped 3 minutes 30 seconds, drunk bare.

Mmmm, lemon and ginger … one of those winning combinations. if you’re not fond of lemon and ginger, you won’t like this tisane.

Liquor is pale yellow and quite cloudy, and it leaves a rim on the cup. I figure that’s the matcha and guarana powder. Aroma is very strong on the lemon, and you can smell both lemon oil and lemongrass, which are very similar yet subtly different. I don’t taste any apple in this. I think I’m picking up some quince, but its very distant. The little bit of liquorice reminds me of some of Stash Teas more adventurous herbal blends. Yeah, lemon and ginger do dominate here. So what you’ve got is a decent stimulant wrapped up in lemon and ginger, and the ginger’s got a little bite and heat. I imagine this tisane would be helpful for fighting off the foggy stuffed head of a cold. Either way, this one should wake you up. Don’t drink this within a few hours of bedtime, for sure. Oh, and ginger — did I mention the lemon and ginger?

Picked up 10g of this last night (I wanted to try it when I was at the mall, but there was no way I was drinking mate at 9:30pm, haha) and figured I’d give it a go this morning. Definitely nice and citrus-y, which I like, with just a touch of ginger for a bit of added kick. I’m hoping the caffeine mix will kick in later, but as it stands right now, I like this one. I think I just need to lower the water temperature a little, because I’m practically burning my tongue.

Neo-Citran. A refined Neo-Citran, but Neo-Citran nonetheless. Which, I suppose I should’ve seen coming. I don’t know. It does perk me up so… maybe I’ll keep the rest on hand for exam time. I’m glad I stepped out of my “zone” for this and gave it a shot though. Citrus is just a tricky one for me.
