From DAVIDsTEA

It can’t be helped. As soon as the seasons start to change, we crave all things pumpkin. Whether it’s baked into pies or steeped into lattes, it’s the fall taste we come back to again and again. And in this richly spiced black tea blend, we take pumpkin and spice to a whole new level. With hints of molasses, currants and a touch of garam masala, it’s a warm and cozy hug in a cup. Limited edition.

I had to try this pumpkin flavoured tea as soon as I saw it was available! It has a nice, creamy smell and taste. The first time I made it too strong and bitter – definitely go with a shorter steeping time! I mixed with 2tbsp milk and 1tsp brown sugar, which blend nicely together. Although I cannot really taste the pumpkin, this tea has a nice mix of spices, carrot, and a creamy toffee-like taste. I will enjoy finishing of my bag of this tea, it has a nice fall feeling to it and would probably make a great latte.

I sampled this in store the other day and liked it enough to buy, so here we are.

The dry leaf smells intensely caramel, with some spicy notes. There’s dried currants and chunks of bright orange carrot (which I’m guessing is there mostly for the colour).

Steeped, I smell pumpkin spices and an intense caramelized sweetness. It smells like autumn baking to me. On the palate, this is not as sweet as I expected it to be. The caramel and burnt sugar notes are still very strong, but not actually that sweet. There’s a nice amount of spice to this, a hint of bitterness and some pumpkin. I drank it straight, but I think it would be fab with milk and sugar too.

This is really nice, but I also feel like I have a lot of teas that are very similar to this. I will definitely finish what I have but I don’t know if it stands out enough to restock. Also, garam masala as an ingredient is hella vague, since that can be any number of different spices in combination.

This tea is kind of crazy. If you have an aversion to spicy things… DON’T go here!

First of all, like some other David’s Teas I was happy that this doesn’t taste artificial at all. A black tea with pumpkin and spices. Nom. I’ve always liked pumpkin flavored things. When I was a kid I looked forward to the pumpkin flavored ice cream that Baskin & Robbins would put out every year.

This is definitely pumpkin-y, but I felt it was a lot better after sugar and soymilk was added. Then the mystery ingredient… I kept noticing how spicy this was in the finish and how “peppery” it seemed to me. Nobody said anything about pepper when I was at the DT store.

I looked the mystery ingredient up on their website? Garam Masala?!? Whoa. That is a bold choice and definitely not for the meek. So I’d say this really seems like a pumpkin curry tea and is definitely not for wimps. I happen to like garam masala in food but I’m not quite sure what I think of it in the tea. I wasn’t really expecting such a spicy tea. I can see how this would be good for colder weather, or to chase off the gloom. I think I need to try it at least once more before giving it a rating and I might steep it for less than 5 minutes next go around, it seems very intense but I have a turmeric tea that I enjoy a lot.

Does the garam masala make it taste on the savoury side? I’d imagine a pumpkin curry with brown basmati rice would be epic.

TeaBrat

It does seem sort of savory in my opinion. I definitely got pepper, also an incredible stomach ache :(

Sorry about the stomach ache. I like garahm masala on fruit salad. I was introduced to this while trying more risky street food in Delhi, ( Chat, and the fruit salad). They were only risky because of the potential of contact with contaminated water. I was OK.

i love Garam Masala. i should check this out.

boychik, let me know if you want a sample ;)

Huh interesting. I just had this, and while I get lots of spices, my cup didn’t have any spicy heat to it at all. I steeped it for four minutes.

Winner! Love the caramelly flavours here, as well as the pumpkin spice. I preferred my at-home brew to the sample I had in-store, which is always good. I think I may even prefer this tea to Pumpkin Chai! Just a perfect spicy pumpkin fall blend. Probably will pick up another 25g to hang onto and sample every now and then.

How does the garam masala hold up in this? I remember being spice-punched by Tealish’s Patisserie and so now I’m ULTRA wary of savory-spice teas. DDDDD:

Kittenna

Oh, it’s just fine. The molasses-y flavour is predominant, and the spicing is at a perfect level. It’s very much like a Pumpkin Chai + molasses.

I brewed this at home on the weekend, since I had splurged on the Pumpkin Collection at the store, and arrived home Friday night with my fall tea goodies in hand. Saturday morning, I eagerly opened up the Pumpkin Patch bag and breathed in the lovely aroma. However (oh, I know, isn’t that such an awful word?!), I think I ruined the brew by adding soy milk. It certainly wasn’t “bad”, mind you, and I thoroughly enjoyed the great big oversized mug I steeped up, but it’s like the soy milk killed a lot of the more subtle spicing in the tea. It tasted like a much milder version of my beloved Pumpkin Chai. Kind of disappointing after I was so blown away when I tried the in-store sample.

In any case, I’m not adjusting the rating for now, since I know I tried it black in the store and that was how I fell in love, so I’ll try it like that again, and I may steep it a bit longer to let the spice really shine through. You’ve been warned, Pumpkin Patch!

Yay first tasting note! I was super excited when an employee told me about this tea being released when I visited a couple of weeks ago…and I’m even more excited that I actually can have this one as there is no dairy in it! With Fall now officially here- even though it has been chilly for several weeks- I’m really getting into the Fall flavours and wanted to give this tea a try. This tea smells very sweet and almost has a hint of maple (maybe from the molasses). When steeped, the sweetness comes through even more. I am also a huge fan of the spices used in this one. I really enjoy the combination of the sweet and spicy as I think that really plays on the fall flavours. I would recommend this to anyone who likes carrot cake and pumpkin chai as it tastes like a combination between the two. I drank mine with soy milk and agave which made it very creamy and added sweetness but I think it would be good as is or as a latte as well.
