From DAVIDsTEA

It’s bright. It’s flamboyant. It’s totally over the top. Oh, and it’s incredibly good for you. If you haven’t gotten to know the dragon fruit yet, it’s time you gave this crazy-looking cactus a try. Though it looks a little bizarre, the flavour is actually quite mild – somewhere between a kiwi, a melon and a pear. And it’s so packed with good stuff, it’s being hailed as the next big super fruit. Taste it for yourself in this super tangy tropical blend. With apple, rosehip, hibiscus and blackberry leaves, it’s a great introduction to a fruit you definitely want to know.

Ingredients: Apple, rosehips, hibiscus, sweet blackberry leaves, dragonfruit, cornflower petals, natural dragon fruit flavouring.

I was really excited to try this blend when it came out, not only because it involved dragon fruit, but also because it was my mini escape every two days I had to go to summer school for basically all of my summer. Anyways, this blend is SERIOUSLY packed with flavour. You can definitely taste the dragon fruit as well as the hibiscus. It’s very very tart, so meh (I guess the combination of dragon fruit and hibiscus didn’t do it complete justice, even though I like both individually). However, although it is a good blend overall, it is definitely not a restock for me.

This is very juicy when prepared hot, and tastes like most of the fruit teas with hibiscus bases, but very different at the same time. I have never had dragonfruit before, so I assume that is what I am tasting. I like it, I think, it is something different. But it doesn’t beat raspberry for me, or other berries (as I would liken this blend to a berry blend), so I wouldn’t purchase.

This one is a new one at DAVIDs so naturally I was tempted to try it. It smelled super sweet and fruity, which of course I am drawn to. I’ve only had it once and it tasted really nice. It was nice to have a tea with dragonfruit in it because I love dragonfruit.

This blend smelled sickly sweet to me in the store, but the boyfriend wanted to try some, so we came home with a sample. To me this tastes an awful lot like the Shooting Starfruit tea when iced, but without the weird bitterness that I had. Which means I generally like it. I’m pretty sure he didn’t make it strong enough, but after the first couple sips I started to really enjoy it. I don’t think I’d reach for this on my own, but if the bf was having a glass i’d ask for one too.

Even frozen as a tea-sicle this is weird. I give up – I don’t like this one.

Sil

gross gross gross

SarsyPie

This post has given me an idea… Now I want to make Northern Iced Tea tea-sicles. Sorry you didn’t like this tea, but tea-sicles sound awesome!

Dexter

Tea-sicles are awesome, you just need to choose the right tea – this wasn’t it. :((

TheTeaFairy

Haha! Somehow, I’m not surprised Dexter!!

Sars, you should look at dexter’s review from yesterday :-)

Dexter

Why do I need to do TWO cans of the coconut milk? Is there not enough in one can to make it whip? Or is it just soooooo good that you HAVE TO HAVE MORE? Thinking about hazlenut tea-sicles with this cream…

SarsyPie

Thanks TTF!!!!!

Dexter

(I have special dark in the fridge cold steeping…..hmmmmmm)

TheTeaFairy

EXACTLY! Way too good to make only one can, hehe…let me know what you think…hazelnut would be awesome…I can even see special dark with maple syrup and that cream!!

Dexter

(Is this the right time to admit that I don’t really do maple syrup – it just seems so un-Canadian of me, but I don’t really like it that much…)

SarsyPie

Whaaaat? Next you’re going to tell me you don’t like hockey. Is not liking maple syrup even legal in Canada? :)

mj

I also don’t really do maple syrup…..

Dexter

No hockey I like (that IS ILLEGAL here) Go Jets – I know, I don’t really HATE it, just not something I seek out, I never buy it….

Dexter

Yay – happy to have a friend here mj – lol will move down there if I get kicked out for this admission. ;))

SarsyPie

Oh thank goodness. I was starting to think you might not even be Canadian. :p

If the US kicks me out, I’d go to Canada. I love hockey AND maple syrup, so I think I’d fit in. :)

mj

LOL, if you get kicked out, come on down and we’ll hang out at Verdant :)

Dexter

LOL Sars if that ever happened come on up – you’d fit right in!!!

TheTeaFairy

Just for the record…it is illegal to not like maple syrup here….the only reason why Dexter gets away with it is because of her awesomeness.

Sars, you’d totally fit in…and so would you mj, I forgive your maple dislike…cause we are tea pot twins :-)

Dexter

I was just talking about the possibility of a trip to Minneapolis and area today – would really like to do a week and hit both Verdant, and Mandala – maybe a baseball game, shopping at Albertville, German food at that restaurant I love but can’t think of the name of right now….

Dexter

Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit – yes I had to look it up – but it’s tons of fun, really like it there…

mj

Yes, it’s super fun!! Love that place :-). I have lots more Minneapolis tips if you decide to make the trip!

mj

Like you definitely need to add Glam Doll Donuts to that list

Dexter

Thanks – it’s just interesting that we were talking about it earlier, and now again tonight – weird how that works. I LOVE Minneapolis, I’ve been quite a few time, but not since my TEA ADDICTION happened, so haven’t done the Verdant thing. That’s almost enough to make the trip worthwhile, not to mention all the other fun things to do…

Dexter

Glam Doll Donuts – OMG I would LOVE that – I also got excited when I saw the Nicollet address, but it’s not really in the mall, downtown area, but close enough to find!!!!

mj

Minneapolis is pretty fun when it’s not winter lol. Nope, Glam Doll is not downtown but it’d be easy to bus there and trust me, it’d definitely be worth it!

ok..so hot brewed, i MUCH prefer the taste of this one….HOWEVER…i can’t drink it…there is something seriously bothersome about the aroma of this tea that makes my mouth rebel with every thought of drinking it. I plugged my nose and did drink it to be able to try it hot brewed, but man i cannot get past that smell lol thanks for letting me try variaTEA!

Cold brewed, this still tastes wonderfully of dragon fruit. I will have to pick up some more next time I am in DAVIDs. I gave the rest of my leaf to Sil when I went to visit her since I don’t have many teas she hasn’t tried so when I do, I share but I think I would stock this throughout the summer.

Sil

yeah ’cause i totally MUST HAVE MOAR TEAS…not :P looking forward to trying this one, trying to decide on cold or hot at the moment

VariaTEA

I’ve only had it iced and cold brewed because I am afraid of the hibby being too tart hot.

First review! And in my excitement to add this to the database I forgot to attach a picture, so if someone could do that for me (I don’t have the option to edit right now?) that’d be awesome!

So this is DT’s new blend for the month of July and I have to admit that I was SUPER excited to see it, despite all the hibby in it, because I LOVE Dragonfruit and have had success with most Dragonfruit teas I’ve had, if not all of them.

Given it was released today, it was also one of the samples of the day and since I was at DT I could not resist trying it! I mean, I was pretty convinced I was going to buy it anyway – but trying it couldn’t hurt. I wont rate because I wasn’t the one who prepared the sample and I have no idea how DT prepared it – but I thought it was good and very promising!

It was a little weak for my tastes (but I think it was sitting in a pitcher with melting ice too, so that’s definitely something to take into consideration) but overall I thought it was distinctly Dragon Fruit flavoured with very light hibby notes to it. I didn’t pick up the rosehips at all. I enjoyed it.

I ended up walking away with a conservation 24g to play with. Likely I’ll cold brew it first; but I think it’ll be good hot too? Honestly, I probably would have got more because I’m sure I’ll love this one – but Tre’s supposed to be picking me up 100g of Cuppa T’s Dragon Fruit Cranberry blend. I didn’t anticipate the July tea being Dragon Fruit…

Roswell Strange

Thank you Cavo for adding a picture! You’re the best! :)

TeaLady441

You’re welcome! :) I know how important that is!

Christina / BooksandTea

My mind boggles at how many new blends David’s comes up with on a regular basis. How do they have room for it all?

TeaLady441

They phase them out – the seasonal blends are only available for a few months! Sometimes they’ll bring them back later on, or make them permanent but you never know which ones!

Bear With Me

SO glad to hear it’s actually dragon fruity! I LOVE dragon fruit (and am nomming one with a spoon right now), so dragon fruit tea REALLY appeals to me. Yep, definitely need to ask for a DAVIDs gift card for my birthday. there’s too much I need!
