From DAVIDsTEA

It’s sweet. It’s salty. And it’s totally addictive. It’s no surprise that caramel corn is such a popular fairground treat. And we just can’t get enough of it. So of course we had to make it into a tea. With real popped corn, caramel pieces plus fresh hints of apple, pineapple, almonds and coconut, it’s rich, buttery and beyond satisfying. And thanks to a touch of beetroot, it brews a fun bright pink colour. Now you can experience that fairground treat anytime, anywhere.

Price: $7.98 per 50g

Got my ‘Carnival Collection’ today and since it’s crappy out, I’m spending my day trying these teas.

First up, Caramel Corn.
Not a bad smell, pretty darn good. Light color when brewed and…it tastes A LOT like Forever Nuts.
I can taste some differences, but it’s basically Forever Nuts with some new stuff added in.
Other than that, it’s a very heavy tea, you need to add quite a bit to really get some steep going on.

Not bad, but not stock-worthy for me.

Damnit.

Turns out I like this one a lot more than I wanted to. Ugh.

I made it for my breakfast tea today because I actually, for once, woke up in time to make tea for breakfast and not be rushed drinking it. It’s sorta weird when that happens, not going to lie; I’m so used to waking up just minutes before I need to start getting ready for work.

It’s really, really good! It’s pretty much smooth toffee/caramel with hints of coconut and a kind of pineapple juice sweetness to it and the whole thing comes together in a way that perfectly emulates sticky, “smack your lips chewing” caramel popcorn to a tee. And, now I want to go pick up more of it because it’s really good. Downside? It’s sorta like Spiced Fig in that it’s a very heavy blend with huge pieces of stuff in it…

So, not really cost effective overall. Blah. Now I have to decide whether I really want this one. Boo to that.

VariaTEA

So I own 250g of this :P

Roswell Strange

And it’s so damn heavy that you’ll be out before you know it ;)

VariaTEA

I will just have to keep stocking it. I am a fan.

OMGsrsly

I have to try this now. :) I guess I should just get it iced to go? Or is it worth picking up 20g and making it at home?

VariaTEA

I liked it iced but it is not bad hot. If you grab 20g, that will be like 2-3 cups

Sil

hahahaha

OMGsrsly

Don’t laugh at me, Sil. If I have to go out into the West Coast style gross heat, I might as well treat myself. TREAT YO SELF!

VariaTEA

Haha TREAT. YO. SELF. I just showed my brother that episode the other day :)

OMGsrsly

I haven’t actually watched much of the show, but that bit is just SO funny!

Sil

i will laugh. it’s what i do

Bear With Me

I think I’m too dopey. I read “treat yo self” as “TEAT yo self”. god damn.

VariaTEA

That may be some people’s definition of treating themselves. Not sure who but some.

OMGsrsly

LOL, Bear. That is definitely a different thing than what I did. :)

Bear With Me

I blame lack of sleep (and besides, even if I wasn’t overtired, BEWBS!)

I won’t say I’m disappointed with this tea, it is good and it smells a lot like caramel corn. I wonder if it would be better to just eat it. :) the smell once brewed is also overwhelmingly caramel corn — once they suggest that for you it’s hard to see that it might be something else.

Once steeped, I get a lot more apple and some Cinammon than anything else. In fact, although it’s been a while since I tried forever nuts, I’d say they two are not far from each other. Forever nuts disappointed me because I expected nuts and got pink Cinammon apple, really.

Also, however flavourful, I find this to be a bit thin tasting. You can steep longer but I suspect you just get even more apple that way. I used the entire 24 gram bag for our 3-cup pot and will attempt a resteep but that will be the end of caramel corn.

This tea is surprisingly good. I went in for a free sample and was skeptical at first. My mom and sister had tasted it previously and said it did not taste like anything. I went to smell the loose leaves first and it actually smelled just like caramel corn. And I tasted it and was pleasantly surprised. i would actually go back and ask for it warm. It is a nice dessert tea that I would love to have after dinner, like I currently do with Forever Nuts.

I got this as a free sample from an online order and I’m giving it a try right NOW!

Dry smell: This smells pretty good, you can definitely smell the caramel and the popcorn… but somehow it doesn’t smell like caramel popcorn lol.

Brewing smell: Now I’d say it smells like roasted corn and caramel, a pinch of cinnamon, it smells like sweets. Okay, I’m pretty sure this smells exactly like Fruity Pebbles, from POST, you know, the flintstones cereals? Yeah that’s it!

Also, the brew turned out pinkish in color, it looks pretty nice.

Taste: The taste is pretty stale to me, tastes like burnt sugar.

Not my kind of tea :) but the smell is nice.

I really am enjoying this tea especially how buttery and smooth the caramel overtones are, the only part that I am not sure about is the final apple note. It sort of comes across as nice cross between Forever Nuts and Movie Night, both of which I adore. However, the apple notes from Movie Night are definitely present. Personally, I find that the apple note does take away from the popcorn flavour a little bit. But, overall, I really like the flavour of the tea.

This is a backlog from last night. I got a sample of this tea with my David’s order. I was pretty happy to see a couple of the carnival teas since people have been talking about them so much around here. The dry tea is a jumble of stuff – popcorn, nuts, candied pineapple, apple, etc. It smells tasty – like popcorn and caramel and butter. Yum! I steeped the whole sample for 5 minutes.

It smelled super yummy! Similar to the dry leaf, but with depth. I actually thought this tasted very much like caramel corn, but perhaps with a bit more butter. It’s like a mix of caramel corn and buttered movie popcorn. Mine came out kinda weak, so if I did purchase this I would definitely use more tea per cup than they recommend. Overall, thought they did a good job of emulating caramel corn with this one. :) I really want to try Cherry Snowcone!

Part of my “go to David’s twice in two days to taste all the new teas” outings.

Preface: I am obsessed with caramel corn. I buy it from Kernel’s about once a month. If someone comes between me and caramel corn, they’re going down. Safe to say I had high expectations for this tea.

Expectations: not met. I think the reason why is because of the coconut in it. Don’t get me wrong, this tea isn’t BAD. I just don’t…love it. Like I wanted to. It’s kinda caramel-y. It’s kinda buttery. It’s kinda popcorn-y. It’s just…not like caramel corn. I don’t even know if I dislike it enough not to buy it. I’m still on the fence.

Verdict: may or may not buy. Not one of my favourites, but not terrible…I’ll have to try it again before writing it off.

The dry blend smells exactly like caramel corn or maybe like the buttered popcorn jellybeans (one of my least favorites). For some reason, I wasn’t expecting it to be so accurate! Once it’s been steeped, it smells like brown sugar, cinnamon and popcorn.

Sipping… this blend starts off with a rather bland fruity base — quite similar to Forever Nuts. The rest of the sip is rather uneventful until the end when I get a lovely caramel corn flavor – faint popcorn with a strong and gooey caramel.

While this is a very creative blend and the flavor is as close to caramel corn as you can get, it’s a little too artificial for me. I also wish that it had a different base mixture because I really am thinking about Forever Nuts throughout this cup. Forever Nuts isn’t a bad tea, but it’s not really what I want with my caramel corn.

My sister and her bf went to DAVIDs and brought me home 250g of this tea in a giant tin and it is awesome! And then because this was sitting in her bf’s car, making it smell like caramel corn, he actually asked if he could try it despite not really liking tea. Well, he liked this one and so do I.

TeaLady441

Yay! Glad you guys like it, especially with the quantity you guys bought! haha. I can’t wait to try it tomorrow!

Sil

Haha

ohfancythat

Wow, that’s so much tea!

VariaTEA

Haha it is a lot but it is also a heavy blend so it is not as much as 250g of other teas

ohfancythat

I suppose that’s true :)
