From DAVIDsTEA

A winning hand

When it comes to refreshment, this blend is playing with a stacked deck. It’s loaded with tangy hibiscus flowers, which bring their signature deep red colour and lip-puckering taste. Plus golden marigold blossoms, for a pretty pop of yellow. But that’s not all – we have an ace up our sleeve. We upped the ante with a super-energizing burst of Ecuadorian guayusa. Fresh, fruity, tart and invigorating…could this be the perfect iced tea? Looks like it’s in the cards…

Ingredients: hibiscus, guayusa, stevia, marigold. With natural fruit and berry flavouring.

This tea truly tart, and tangy. Delicious iced! Never tried it hot but I bet it would be good that way too.

Always a favourite. Having it hot for the first time and it’s really amazing. :D Gotta add a little bit of sweetener because, as the name suggests, it is tart!!

I like how simple this tea is… and the caffeine boost is fantastic!

Tastes like a berry punch with a bit of earthiness. The tart hibiscus flavors lingers on your tongue. The hibiscus and berry flavoring overpower the guayusa, making this appear more like a herbal tea especially with its rich cranberry colored liquor. Great for those who like a kick as it tastes like a herbal tea but with the stimulant of a cup of coffee.
Would recommend trying this tea iced.

I received this as a sample and did not like it one bit. Way too tart for my taste buds.

Picked up 50g of this on Sunday while refilling my favorite Nepal Black.. actually Nepal Black was out of stock so I ended up with just this.

Dry lef or hot brewed, this tea smells delicious. It has a beautiful rich jammy color from the hibiscus. I was drawn to this tea for it’s Guayasa content since I’ve felt pretty sloth like lately but didn’t want the grassy flavor.

I’ve never actually tried a hibiscus tea, but the taste is nothing special. I taste sour blackberries and lemon zest. Quite tart/sour on the initial sip, sweetening over time. The flavor does not linger. I can very faintly taste the Guayasa… but I actually added a teaspoon of my own Guyasa to my 50g to give the tin some more kick.

I’m happy to use this as a Guayasa alternative, but as a flavored tea for enjoyment? Maybe not too often. I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone. I do think this would make an awesome cold steep tea with some additions in the summer.

The tartest tea I’ve tried, and yet a very fun, pleasant experience. The tartness becomes enjoyable if sweetened a bit, adding a strong kick to an otherwise mellow berry tea. Hibiscus takes the main stage, so a warning to anyone who dislikes hibiscus. This would be an excellent addition to a fruit punch or any other summery concoction. Bold and fun!

Another day, another iced cuppa Queen of Tarts to get me going.

I think I might sob if/when DT discontinues it, and the way they’ve been getting rid of teas left and right who knows what’ll be chopped next. That said, I might have to stock up the next time DT has one of those buy 2 get 1 free sales. I think I’ll have made a significant dent in my collection (through sipdowns and sales/trades) by then.

I feel you. I’m so frustrated that they are getting rid of mulberry magic and ginger beer. It’s like I can’t trust them cause I’m afraid of loving a tea to only it get discontinued.

apieceofquiche

Yeah, I’m the same way. There are so many teas that have been discontinued lately that I really enjoy – Cranberry Pear, Redberry Tonic, and Gold Rush to name a few – and I didn’t have the opportunity to stock up before they vanished from the website. Sad times. There’s really not enough warning, especially with these permanent teas.

Kristal

Mulberry Magic has been around for at least a solid 4 years (2nd tea I tried from DAVIDs and therefore one of the first teas I ever had and fell in love with). I understand from a business/profit perspective why they discontinue teas, but to me as a consumer it’s very inconsistent and unpredictable. Hence why I’m really been getting into a local tea shop in town- I was talking to the owner on facebook and she said she would NEVER retire a tea as long a customer was drinking it :)

A longer cold brew (about 15 hours) brings out a bit of the guayusa. All the same, it’s not overpowering. I do prefer this with a bit of a shorter cold brew, but there’s not a huge difference.
