From DAVIDsTEA

Ginseng for joy
This ginseng-coated tea looks more like moss-covered pebbles than tea leaves. And it tastes just as wonderfully weird as it looks: rich and crisp with a hint of shea butter and a sweet, lingering ginseng flavour.

This is the second oolong from Davids I’ve had today, the other being Pineapple oolong. I have to say the base is extremely similar, I’m willing to bet it’s the same.

Anyway, this tea is okay. I don’t get any particular ginseng flavor, and the oolong isn’t blowing my socks off. I’m glad we only have a little sample of this left.

MMm yummy. It reminds me of a nice green tea. Smooth and buttery with a hint of sweetness. I’m going to try re-steeping this multiple times ad see how it changed flavour!

So amazing! Initially tastes like your classic oolong, and leaves a crisp fresh feeling in the back of your mouth. I’m in love, I drink this atleast once a day!

Aroma is really familiar, but I can’t exactly place it. It mainly reminds me of Japan and the dried seaweed paper things. The tea leaves really do look like moss-covered pebbles, but look like seaweed in the steeper. The liquor is a really intense greeny yellow color. Remind me of the slougoon. First thought on taste: So weird. Starts out super vegetative, but transitions into a sweet, almost fruity, aftertaste.

I’ve been avoiding trying this tea. It just sounds and looks so weird. Strange green pebbles…
Plus the fact I have been convinced I do not like Ginseng. Ginseng is everywhere here in Korea, usually making delicious things taste nasty (like caramel and soup).
Yesterday though, my boss offered me tea, and all she had was Ginseng tea.
So I drank it, it was tasty.
This finally emboldened me to try the David’s tea version.

Review.

First off, the instructions. to use 1.5 tsp /cup is nuts. I used a scant tsp, and it was WAY too much. 1/2 should be more than enough.

For my first steep, the ginseng had only started to come off the oolong,

Taste wise, really tasty! I love the oolong leaves, soft, mellow, gently sweet.
Then the ginseng, it is a bit bitter, a bit ‘dirt’ flavoured, and sweet.
If you are familiar with the taste of ginseng, you probably know what I mean when I say ‘dirt’ flavoured. It’s not herbal, or woodsy, but a odd natural flavor… Like an improperly washed carrot….
With that said, it’s a tasty flavor. Honestly, it add this interesting depth to the oolong.
Ginseng has this odd innate sweetness, so the tea actually tastes almost sweetened.

I really enjoy this tea right now. I’m so sick and I believe ginseng is supposed to be good for your throat so here I am. This tea tastes buttery in a good way. I drink it with a teeny bit of brown sugar because the ginseng can taste a little awkward for my palette. I don’t like the aftertaste. I have to sip it again in order to get rid of it. tastes like those sweet n low packets aftertaste my dad used to use when we’d go for breakfast. Not perfect but still a good tea

THIS TEA IS SO WEIRD. I love it.

It starts as a light vegetal oolong, with a very slight roasty flavour to it (think genmaicha), and then BAM you get hit with a weird cooling ginseng sweetness that just coats your entire mouth & throat area. This ginseng aftertaste stays strong in the tea until about the third or fourth steeping. Will definitely be buying more of this in the near future.

I brewed this according to DavidsTea’s instructions.

The ginseng taste is sweet and immediate. It remains behind the lip for the duration of the sip. Nice Oolong taste in the back of the mouth and a ginseng aftertaste. Overall, very nice if you like ginseng!
