Sweet indulgence

There’s no better treat than a salted caramel. You won’t find this in your history books, but we’ve heard that Romeo seduced Juliet with a salt-sprinkled toffee. Rich, buttery and sweet with a kiss of salt – who can resist? So it goes without saying that it makes for a seriously delicious tea. This is a rich black tea blend, strewn with pieces of English toffee, coconut, caramel and a touch of French sea salt. It’s guaranteed to seduce your taste buds.

Ingredients: Black tea, coconut, caramel bits, English toffee bits, sea salt, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: soy, coconut, dairy, nuts

I tried this for my Day 4 of my advent calendar. I generally love black teas, but this one is just not for me. I opened the container and it smelled okay, but didn’t smell caramel-y to me. I steeped it and I tried it and didn’t like it. I tried adding milk but still tasted odd to me. The tea didnt taste like what I imagined salted caramel to taste like. The tea and the flavors are rich, but artificial tasting in a odd way. I think if it wasn’t so rich and strong tasting I might like it more.

Day 4. Wow! This has to be my favourite so far! (4 days in, so I guess that doesn’t mean much, but it is going to be hard to beat!) This stuff smells AMAZING! I am currently making a latte of it as we speak. So good. I had it with milk this morning and everyone kept asking me what I was drinking, it smelt that good. This is one to add to the list of to purchase. I have a feeling these 24daysoftea are going to be dangerous on my wallet.

I’ve said it before, I’m not great with black teas (I’m a bad Brit), but this is delightful. Not too bitter an aftertaste, can pick up the caramel in scent and taste and the salt keeps it from being toooooo sweet. I’m drinking mine with unsweetened almond milk.

Not sure if I would buy it myself but it was a nice treat to get in the 24 days of tea.

Pretty good! I don’t taste the salt or caramel, instead I’m just getting a vague sweet taste. Kind of reminds me of buttered rum.

Well I tried a tiny bit of this in the bottom of my cup before adding anything… and the face I made is akin to the one I make when I drink V8. Not good.

But adding my usual milk + sugar definitely improved the taste for me. It’s got nice caramel overtones with a slight salty hint at the end, despite the sugar I added. An affordable alternative to my Urban Tea Merchant Caramel.

Day 24 of my do-it-yourself scavenger hunt advent calendar!

When my dad was making the advent calendar, he didn’t know that this was one of the teas not on my list of “teas I like, or teas I would like to try” for a reason. I had this tea, and ended up giving it away because I disliked it so much. I almost enjoyed the first few cups, but as my 50g bag was slowly disappearing, I liked it less and less. Thankfully, I only have 3 more cups to choke down (my dad tried this as a sample in-store and really liked it, so this might actually be the only cup I have to choke down).

Part of my distain for this tea definitely stems from the coconut they put in it. Why on earth does a salted caramel tea need coconut in it?! This makes no sense. Other than to make it taste fake-creamier. Just put more caramel pieces in it! Problem solved. I still don’t get any sea salt flavour, but the caramel flavour is more obvious than I remember it being. And it almost tastes in this cup like I’m getting some caramel flavour from the actual toffee pieces, not just from the artificial caramel flavour they add to the leaves. I get more of a “coconut black tea” taste than anything else. And I hate coconut. Bumped the rating down to be the same as my dislike for coffee cake.

Verdict: I don’t hate it, but I certainly don’t like it enough to buy it again.

This is not a very memorable tea. And I’m so upset because my favorite thing is SALTED CARAMEL and well..anything caramel. Sometimes it’s okay. But it tastes very oily in a way. It’s really hard to explain. Something’s just not right and it has so much potential. It’s even worse as a latte, which is unbelievable. It smells great though.

I sound like I hate it but I don’t. Just disappointed.
