From DAVIDsTEA

Go wild.

Head for the Ju Ju Jungle, made with a guayusa herb and fruit blend that’ll make you feel like swinging from the vines and hanging from the trees. No wonder. Guayusa contains a combo of the natural stimulants also found in green tea and dark chocolate. People claim it protects you against snake bites, gives you courage, and helps you spiritually connect to nature. With its smooth flavour and natural buzz, we’ll just say it makes for a deliciously stimulating cup of tea.

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified Guayusa (Ecuador), papaya, peach, artificial and natural flavouring*.

Thanks to lizeepea for sending me this one. I returned home from Guatemala to find this one in my mailbox. I am a fan of Guayusa that I have tried and this one is good too. I didn’t pick up much chocolate in it but the fruit is good and doe not overpower the tea. Mmmmm I’m thinking I might have to order from Davids on the next tea order.

Uniquity

I haven’t had it in a while, but I don’t think there is supposed to be chocolate in it?

The DJBooth

No there is not I misread this morning….whoops :)

Uniquity

At least it’s less disappointing that way! : )

I have 3 exams this week and 2 assignments due. Agh.

This has a lovely fruity smell to it. It’s actually reminding me of Kiwi’s Big Adventure. And what exactly is a stimulant to DavidsTea? I looked in their FAQ but I want more info. Is this the equivalent to drinking coffee?

I can’t get Kiwi’s Big Adventure out of my mind, even drinking it is reminding me of it. Really, not a bad thing. I wanted to love Kiwi’s Big Adventure but it needed more flavour in my opinion. But they don’t have any of the same ingredients. Bizarre. This one I’m enjoying though. Perhaps when I get home from my exam this morning I’ll resteep and chill to try it out iced :)

That’s 4 for 4 from my Davids trip yesterday. Yeeaah.

Update: I let the rest of my cup from this morning sit in the fridge while I went to school this morning. It was still pretty good chilled but I think I may prefer it hot. I could see it being just as good chilled with perhaps a wee bit of sugar.

Update February 12/13: Still really enjoying this one. Brought it for the drive and first class this morning. I actually added a wee but of agave this morning to mellow out the slight bitter taste. Not over-steeped bitter, more like lemon bitter. Really too bad I can’t make tea at school. And I can’t wait to be done classes and yoga so I can go home and finish the last episode of Dexter season 7! Then perhaps I can get back on my readings.

This is delicious cold, also.

I am currently drinking it with a generous amount of vanilla vodka, and it makes a fantastic mixed drink. Who knew?

Wow. Take this “highly caffeinated” warning seriously! Tea (even black) never really seemed to give me any boost, neither did coffee. I was pretty amazed when I found maté and noticed it did give me a bit of energy, though I need to drink a lot to get that. After only 2 cups of Jungle Ju Ju, I feel like I should go run a marathon right now! I’ll have to remind myself never to drink more than this (as I usually drink at least 3 cups)… it could probably get quite unpleasant.

As for the taste, I’m having a hard time evaluating the guayusa taste… not that the fruit taste is too strong (it is just perfect, in my opinion, fruity and only slightly sweet), but I’m having difficulty to draw the line between what taste comes from the fruit, and what comes from the guayusa. In any case, I enjoy the whole thing, and guayusa seems to have a distinctive taste, different from maté or tea. Nice!

Wow! I never experience a caffeine boost (though I try) except when I choke down a strong latte in desperation so I’ll have to give this a try.

I have 52Teas Lemolicious Guayusa and have yet to notice an energy boost…but I’ve never noticed an energy boost from any caffeine, so it didn’t surprise me. Haven’t tried the jungle ju ju yet though.

Eisenherz

Interesting, I’ll be curious to see if that tea will have a different effect for you! A friend of mine tried it and thought it gave her too much of a boost, though she reacts more “normally” to caffeine than me.

Oh darling magical cupboard at work, what shall we have today? Oh, jungle ju ju, you say?

It promises to get me swinging from the vines. Dunno about that but it’s not putting me to sleep which is great!

So now that I’m a seasoned mate drinker not! I can tell you I like this one in comparison to others. This is largely due to the papaya flavour. I’m a sucker for tropical fruit, especially if it’s covering something I am not entirely fond of yet. You do get good papaya flavour in this. Enough so that you don’t have to dig too deep to figure it out. I would make a second cup actually except I finished the bag, there was only enough for 1 cup. Might have to settle for 2nd steep. Hope it gives me more than flavoured water.

Thanks so much, Amanda! I like this more than I thought I would! I steeped this for 5-6 minutes,, about 1 1/2 teaspoons. There were two big fruit pieces in the infuser. The flavor in this one is addicting for some reason. The earthiness of the guayusa is delicious with the peach and papaya (not sure if I ever had papaya before). It’s very smooth and it pairs perfectly with the fruits. The second steep was just as delicious. I wonder if this blend has artificial sugar in it? If not, it kind of tastes like it, but in a good way. I think guayusa would be interesting to sweeten soda AND add energy to it. Guayusa makes for a nice change from black tea wake-me-ups in the morning. I definitely appreciate all of the types of tea! I never get bored… at least not yet! I’ll have to drink more guayusa in the future, and I’ll definitely keep this in mind if I need some more guayusa later on… this pouch has a few more cups in it! I could see drinking this a LOT in the summer. I’ll have to try it iced.

1.5 tsp for 300mL water @85C, steeped 6 minutes.

Quite sweet, and quite potent. Sulfites might trigger headaches in anyone sensitive to them. I find guayusa very stimulating; I don’t drink it too often, and I want to have something saved for when I need an extra push. I’ve got nothing to object to in this fruit and guayusa blend.

I tried this tea on Saturday because I had a very busy family dense day ahead of me. I was exhausted from staying up far too late on Friday having fun, and I desperately needed an energy packed treat to convince me that faking sick wasn’t an adult solution to getting out of forced social situation. POW, Jungle Ju Ju did the trick!

This tea is brilliant! Super fruity and full of energy promoting herbs. Jungle Ju Ju helped me get dressed and be a generally civil human being for most of the day. I crashed at about 6:00 pm but that’s not this wonderful tea’s fault. It’s a delicious cuppa not a controlled substance ;)

I had this in the morning on the go from the store. It was smooth and creamy, which is something I’m starting to associate with guayasas. The Papaya was nice and the peach added to the papaya while maintaining it’s own identity. As this cooled it oddly started tasting strongly of oregano.

I was served this on ice at my local David’s Tea as the Tea of The Day.

Unique fruity flavour. I’m not sure if I’m just being biased because of the name but this tisane really does evoke images of the stereotypical jungle with lots of trees and exotic fruits.
