From DAVIDsTEA

Discover its power

Chamomile may seem like an ordinary herb, but it is really very special. Did you know people have been drinking it since the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks? And every kid has enjoyed a cup before bedtime. It’s been sipped for thousands of years for thousands of reasons. Probably the best reason is its aromatic, calming taste. Caffeine free. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic Egyptian chamomile.

Ok, so technically the tea I drank was DAVIDsTEA’s Calming Chamomile BUT it’s the exact same thing as this Chamomile except it’s no longer sourced from Egypt and so they had to change the name. I’m not going to make a new tea entry/page for it though because even when you look at DT’s website the ‘new’ Calming Chaomile page is under the URL for Egyptian Chamomile, so…

Fight me.

Anyway; I have been DREADING this tea because I can’t stand chamomile despite the fact I like that it makes me sleepy/drowsy and therefore it’s good for before bed. I had no clue how I was going to drink this in a way that I wouldn’t loathe; but I did it. How? Well, I drank it iced with about a tablespoon of honey to drown out the taste of actual tisane.

Yup; could hardly taste the chamomile. Instead I got a nice, sweet and smooth cup of honey goodness – and of course we released a honey flavoured chamomile blend just a few days afterwards…

I know this one was a bit of a cheat, but I’ve obviously had chamomile before. I just needed to drink this one to be able to honestly say that I’ve tried it.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

I’m the same way with chamomile, so I usually go with the whole flower from Germany or Egypt. Even then, it has to be with a good blend or have a little bit of honey at minimum for me.

I’ve forgotten how nice this tea tastes. Pure chamomile is really delicious. Drinking a warm cup of this is one of the most relaxing things one can do, in my opinion.

Aroma is pleasantly grassy and floral at the same time. I like to let it steep for a while, about 5-7 minutes, for a really sturdy tea body and flavour. I’ve also forgotten how sweet chamomile tea tastes. I get a creamy/buttery smoothness from it, with a honey-like aftertaste. Almost like a desert, but calming at the same time.

Edit: WoH… Also forgot about the tea “high” this one gives… Quite a potent calming effect.

Lightly floral and sweet comfort in a cup. Sip, and happily sigh.
I will often blend half this and half Mothers Little Helper as a nightly drink before bed.

I’ve had a rough past couple of weeks. I left everything that was familiar in search of new adventures and better life choices. It looks like I’ll be another month out until things start to become routine. Before I left my original residence, I bought two tins of tea from David’s. One is their earl grey, while the other was this Egyptian Chamomile. I’m glad I was able to throw them in my suitcase for a good cup of tea wherever I went.

A cup of Egyptian Chamomile has accompanied me on my bedtime de-stress routine. It’s lovely because it’s caffeine free, and has more flavour than the bagged stuff. All the same— I think I could double up the recommended teaspoons and have a much more flavourful cup. Yes, chamomile is a love-it-or-leave-it kind of tea. It does taste like grass and hay, and it doesn’t have much of a flavour profile.

When I drink chamomile, I am reminded of my childhood when I drank it to cure the sniffles or feel warmth on a cold night. I guess this is why I go back to it again and again. It’s not that I particularly enjoy the taste— but the wonderfulness of routine and reminders of good times gone by is what keeps me coming back.

My tisane of the night before bedtime. Not a casual chamomile drinker but I am trying to cut out some caffeine (particularly at night) and this is the start of things.

The chamomile flowers are beautiful, whole for the most part and bright yellow. So light and fluffy to the touch, so very pretty. They have a herbal and slightly sweet scent that is beknownst to chamomile.

Flavour is thick and full with a sweet after taste. I say full but I mean in terms of depth, it is by no means strong or overpowering, it does however coat my tongue and mouth pleasantly. The herbal taste is only minimal considering the smell and it lingers softly in the after taste.

The flavour remains consistent half way down the cup and is as pleasant as it was with my first sip. If anything it actually starts to taste more sweet and less herbal.

Overall I like this one, it’s not too herbal but nor is it too sweet. I rarely like a chamomile drink but this must be one of my favourite’s so far. Glad I managed to trade and get some of this one, my new night time friend.

I used to drink a lot of Chamomile, but not so much recently. I’m hitting up the calming teas at the moment, though – this week I’ve got nerves like never before. Anyway, the tea. I used 1 tsp of leaf for my cup, and gave it 4 minutes in boiling water. No additions. I like watching whole flower chamomile as it brews – I think that’s at least half of the calming effect. The liquor is a bright, sunny yellow.

To taste, this is one of the nicer chamomiles I’ve tried in a while. I mean, yes – they’re all pretty similar, but whole flower ones are definitely different to bagged varieties. This one is mildly floral, with gentle notes of hay and honey. It’s not overpoweringly sweet or cloying, and it’s not at the tasteless end of the spectrum either. It’s just…right.

I might have to snag this one for copious drinking over the next few days.

This has to be one of my absolute favorite teas, from the looks and feeling of drinking flowers and pretending to be a fairy with the flower water in my little cup, to the smell of childhood and near holy nights of peaceful moments in your life that won’t be forgotten as you grow up, but this time must be taken only at a certain time as I would not like to be reminiscing when I go. Ergo my book list.

Books recommended for this tea are: Tales from the Dark Tower by Joseph Vargo, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

Hello, my name is SensualSencha and I’m a chamomileholic. I drink this tea every single night before bed, it has such relaxing properties and a very sweet aroma. I usually have to over steep this tea in order to get the bold chamomile flavour though unfortunately, but nevertheless it tastes great in the end.
