From DAVIDsTEA

Precious jade

For the true connoisseur. Unlike regular green tea, Gyokuro Yamashiro (literally “Jade Dew”) is shaded for 6-7 weeks prior to plucking, so it’s dark, extra-energizing and extremely rare outside of Japan. Experts rhapsodize over its extraordinary tea oil and chlorophyll notes. And its lengthy time out of the sun gives it an intensely rich flavour – think dark, leafy greens mingled with buttery sweetness. Truly exquisite. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Steamed green tea from Japan.

Sipdown.

This is a pretty old sample I had, and decided to cold brew it to finish it off.

It was like drinking cold butter. I’m glad it’s finished, so I can move on to other stuff.

Did you try the origin oolong tea wuyi rock tea da hong pao or lapsang souchong black tea before? How is the feeling?

This is a delicious, vegetal (almost grassy) tea. Since it’s so expensive I tried resteeping my sample to see how much value I could get if I wanted to buy more. The first steep was delicious, but I really noticed a difference in the second steep. That second steep was still fairly good, but it seemed to have lost some its savory vegetable flavour and become a more mellow tea. It was clear to me that the leaves really wouldn’t have more to give for a third steep, so I didn’t even try.

This is an expensive tea, but I’m going to pick up 50g for free as one one my “frequent steeper” rewards from David’s Tea. I’m not sure that I’d pay full price for it. We’ll see how I feel when I finish my free 50g bag…

Another attempt to add a little more straight, green tea into my life, and another lovely taste. Perhaps a little too grassy for my ultimate liking, but this was pretty much what I expected it to be, and I certainly can’t fault it for that.

This is a very spinach tea…the leaves steep up to a delicious looking light-green and the resultant liquid is lightly grassy and tastes somewhere between collard greens and cooked spinach. That’s a good thing, by the way. :D

One cup of the stuff is more than enough, though, and I’m not a big fan of it overall…so that’s going to have to lower the rating somewhat. It’s interesting, but not something I’d like to keep around.

The leaves are so dark green! They were quite small too but really expanded upon brewing. Everything about this tea is GREEN. The look, the smell, and especially the taste. To me, it tasted quite a lot like edamame, which I enjoyed. However, each sip ended with a really harsh astringency that I was not a fan of at all. Maybe I screwed up when I brewed this? I won’t rate it in case I did. Thanks to Virginia for doing so much to help me broaden my tea horizons :-)

The temperature of your water was too high, this is better at 70 degrees for 2 min

The David’s site lies! I’ll try it at 70C next time. Thanks :-)

OoooooOooooooooOooooh. My first thought was spinach, followed by butter, asparagus, and grass. It tastes like fall rain. Definitely not what I was expecting, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless. Am I the only one tasting the faintest bit of licorice? There is a lot to love about this tea. It is lovely.

Very good green tea; be careful with the infusion.
Not really acrid. The taste is similar to matcha.

I’ve just been in a mood recently where I’ve been loving every tea I’ve been drinking. I guess I’m just learning what I don’t like and what to avoid more. I got a sample of this from David’s Tea a while back, and now I’m finally trying it. I’m holding back on rating this one because I am getting all of these great notes that are delicious- vegetal and buttery, but I am also getting a lemony aftertaste, which I’m worried may have been from my infuser, which I cleaned with bit of lemon juice yesterday. Oh well. I know this is something I definitely want to try again.

The taste of this tea wasn’t enjoyable for neither myself or my husband. Being one of the more expensive teas, I thought the flavour would be more interesting. This smells grass, and tastes too weak.

Gyokuro Yamashiro is the final tea of this night at my friend’s house. I must admit, it is definitely my favorite green tea from David’s tea so far! I’ve tried most of them, and none are really as pure and delicate as this one!

It’s really smooth, not too strong, not astringent (if brewed correctly) and not bitter like some green teas. And it only has one ingredient: steamed green tea from Japan!

It’s lovely, and makes me feel great when I drink it. I would definitely recommend it to tea amateurs and green tea lovers!
