Tea #50 from HHTTB2

This tea totally just looks classy and tastes fancy.

It’s a lightly fruity, definitely floral, with very subtle elements of almond and biscuit/pastry. The base pairs perfectly with the more delicate flavors here, and is smooth and not at all bitter. Every component of this tea was clearly thought through and tweaked to make a masterfully blended cup.

Thank you to Doulton for the opportunity to taste this tea!

I can taste a strong almond note from the marzipan, and thanks to the biscuit flavor it tastes like almond cookies! YUM!

A very pleasant sweetness and depth of flavor. This may just be my favorite “almond cookie” tea I’ve tasted yet!

Tea of the morning……

And Day 1 of my 24 teas of Christmas. I am just trying to finally get to a good portion of the samples generously sent to me by my Steepsterite friends, so it also becomes a counting of blessings, really. (And yes, I am counting up to Christmas, just because that is the way my family celebrates the season. Please don’t take that as a slight that I don’t respect how you spend this season.)

This tea is really good…..berry notes, a little almond, a little breadyness. Full mouth feel and a tea base that complements the flavors. A little lighter than something like Paris or Fruits de’Alsace from Harney, but still very present. Well done. I have a few more samples from this company sent to me by Dinosara along with this one , and I cannot wait to try them all!

Steeped the usual 24 oz teapot method.

I plan on counting up to Christmas with my David’s Tea 24 Days of Christmas sampler, then counting down with 52Teas 13 Teas of Christmas. My December is going to be tasty!

CHAroma

I with you! Bring on the tea!

I really feel sophisticated while drinking this tea. This would be a beautiful tea to serve at an elegant tea party. I love the floral, nutty flavor. I wasn’t sure how much nut I’d get out of this tea, but it is a sweet pastry nuttiness, with a hint of flowery good ness. Glad I took this back out of the cupboard. Thanks to Doulton for organizing the great tea purchase from Damman Frere’s months ago. Deliciouso

Another of my Dammann Freres purchases from the Doulton led adventure. I still have a few left to taste. Did I go overboard, do you think? (The angel on my should says “of course.” The devil on the other shoulder says “nah..”)

There are huge pink petals and tiny blue ones in among the dry leaves, which smell sweet and flowery and not at all like marzipan. Love those little blue cornflowers in anything. They make me all goofy. ;-)

The tea steeps dark reddish amber, and has a very gentle aroma that is most definitely marzipan. I can smell the sweet almond, down to that somewhat alcoholic scent and taste marzipan sometimes has. Mmmmm.

Taste wise, I get the marzipan as well. It’s not overly sweet or pastry like, which is one of the things I like about it. It truly is marzipan flavored tea, not a cake superimposed on the tea. There’s also a gentle floral taste and feel to it, particularly at the beginning of the sip and there’s also a slight saltiness that is extremely interesting.

It isn’t a heavy taste as marzipan can sometimes be, and was perfectly yummy on a day like today that is bright, sunny and warm. At some point I’ll have to assess all my Dammann Freres experiences and think about which ones are worth repeating through additional purchases, but for now I’m just enjoying drinking my way through them. This one could end up being a rebuy. Time will tell.

Oo-la-la!
This delightful brew comes courtesy of Ashmanra
My oh my does it smell lovely.
I was trying to decide which one of her delicious teas to try first and my exact words when I saw this one was “Oh! its so pretty!”
And it is, blue and pink floral petals mixed with the black tea leaves already promise something special is in store.
Then the smell! Oh! I want a perfume to smell like this! I would wear it everyday and I would smell so yummy.
Notes of floral but also a little candy-like, not a gaggy sweet candy but some sort of foreign confection that I probably could not even say the name of.
The odor of the tea itself turns more cookie-like upon brewing.
With maybe just small hints of almond, perhaps?
All this before I have even taken a sip!
The color is a lovely dark amber.
At first sip I taste the black tea, which is good.
Then floral, with a hint of almond cookie to finish off.
None of the flavors are overpowering, though they are there.
I appreciate the I can in one sip taste all the aspects of the tea, but none pushing out the others (how very polite!)
Well, what a lovely tea!
It makes me want to have a tea party:)
Thank you for allowing me to taste this fine tea, Ashmanra!

I think this is my favorite of all the ones I sent to you! I first had it from a swap and talked about it for so long that my eldest daughter wrote down the name and ordered it for me as a gift!

Hesper June

Oh dear! Well, thats what I am afraid of, that some of these teas you sent, I simply just won’t be able to live without;)
That was so sweet of your daughter to get it for you!

My friend Jackie sent this to me as a surprise sample. She knows my tastes so well. This is the most gourmand tea I’ve ever tasted. I’m really surprised there isn’t a single fruit in this (according to the description at least) as it smells and tastes of candied strawberry to me (what?) I would hate that in any tea (I like berries but I think they just taste gross hot) but this is so complicated. I could see a child absolutely loving this, it’s like a bag of sweets with a slight edge coming from the flowers.
Quite a captivating tea, if you ask me – there’s so much going on, I just spent my whole cup analyzing every note. I strongly recommend milk and the sweetener of your choice with this, though you can go without sweetener (it’s a dessert tea on its own), I feel it just ties everything nicely. I’m frankly surprised I like this, it’s very very sweet, but it’s also very very lovely on the tongue and smells like teen spirit.

JacquelineM

I was going for the marzipan and pretty flowers angle :) I too find this a little fruity, but like you said, there is so much going on as to not make it a deal breaker (at least I hoped it wouldn’t!).

cteresa

Smells like teen spirit, oh wonderful – and now I will have to try this one! Luckily enough I think I have seen it it for sale locally.

Ysaurella

this blend is really nice and leads us back to childhood instantaneously

Ah, happy to see a familiar favorite in the calendar. Still very much the same for me.. smooth, biscuit, poppy with a hint of something fruity. So delicious! One of my absolute favorites from Dammann Freres.

I have to confess, I’m really enjoying sampling teas in this way!
These little cups hold just enough tea for a quick sample, & if it’s something I don’t care for, I don’t feel so bad dumping it out.
The one is not getting dumped! It’s tasty!
:)
And that’s enough sampling for now, I have a gig in a little while, the monthly tea party at the nursing home. Time to get ready.

Tasting this one for the first time since bringing it back from France! Since it promises marzipan and biscuit flavours I’m holding off on a treat on the side of this one in case it interferes with the tea ;D

The aroma is really complex, slightly fruity or floral but there’s a hint of something else in there— likely the poppy as I’ve never tried a tea with poppy in before. On the first sip it’s really quite floral. Cornflowers and peonies and what might be the poppy are wonderfully bold on the first sip, and beyond that… rich vanilla and a stubborn almond aftertaste on the tongue! The more you drink the more the floral flavours give way and settle into the cakiness instead, and with a touch of milk, it’s like a luxurious dessert.

The marzipan and biscuit aren’t as strong as the flowers, as advertised, but it’s a wonderful cup nonetheless! Next time I’ll try to get fewer flowers in the cup to see how it compares…

I want to buy this tea for a while but need to pop up to Place des Vosges for that. Can you tell me if the poppy is really floral or if it tastes more like poppy candies (don’t know if you have this in the UK but in France this is a quite rare hand crafted product, like a vintage candy…in the same vein as violet candies)

meliorate

Hi there! I’ve not tried a poppy candy before either in France nor the UK, so I wouldn’t be able to compare from experience, I’m afraid ): It really is very floral rather than candylike. If I find somewhere in the UK that sells poppy sweets I will get back to you to compare!

Ysaurella

thank you :) (really love the nickname Melanchocolate, great idea)
