From Crimson Lotus Tea

This is a custom blend of Spring 2019 sheng puerh tea materials. This is a custom blend in our style. Just like custom car culture in America we take classic ideas and add our own creative touches to them. There are familiar aspects to this tea and then ones you won’t expect. We’ve taken the tea then chopped it and dropped it, lowered it and slapped a sick paint job on it. A new classic is born.

This tea has been a long time in the making. Our first year in Kunming we fell in love with a painting in a local tea shop. We spent years tracking down the artist and finally got a hold of him this year. His name is Cong and he is a Kunming local artist who loves puerh tea. His style is very modern and not well received in China. We love what he does and are super happy to have his work on our tea! He isn’t on social media and has a limited online presence so we’ve got nothing to link you to.

This is an easy drinking tea with hay and lemongrass in the aroma. Flavor is smooth, sweet and thick with a pleasant aftertaste. It is crisp, clean, and clear with minimal bitterness and a balanced astringency.

Today’s drink-while-I-work tea (gong-fu style).
This tea has aged well; it has calmed down and yet has retained a complexity of flavors.
Slightly bitter, but not overwhelmingly so when flash brewed.
I am already many steeps in and this tea is still going on strong, I think it will last throughout my entire shift today.
This is a great daily drinker; a good robust tea for a good price.

Another one that might benefit from lower temps. Not bad on the initial tasting though!
Also fairly strong with moderate bitterness and basically no sweetness. Not quite as complex as I would like, though. Furthermore, the mouthfeel isn’t anything special to me. It is a nice tea, however, and I enjoy drinking it for sure!

I’m currently slamming a cup of this western style. This is the best sheng I’ve had to date, which is admittedly a small sample, but I’m not sure what else I could ask for. Bright floral notes I can’t further articulate at the moment followed up by nutmeg minus the bitter. It’s smooth and not quite thick or thin but what I think is excellent mouthfeel. Every sip I take a huge inhale of the bouquet swimming out of this. It’s like yancha disguised as a sheng which I find magical. As it cools the nutmeg starts to coat the tongue in the aftertaste with a gentle astringency and mineral notes evolve. I could drink this every day.
