From Celestial Seasonings

Morning Thunder is an earthy combination of maté—a South American herb—and mountain-grown black tea that gives you the lift you need without the coffee jitters. Maté is traditionally shared at gatherings of friends and family, and is passed around in a hollowed-out gourd and drunk through a silver “straw” called a bombilla. Because both maté and black tea are rich in antioxidants, a cup of this robust brew is a healthful and exhilarating way to start your day.

Ingredients: Roasted maté and black tea.

I like this one solely because of the name and the picture on the box. Hilarious!

No sweetener, no milk. Just straight up

Me too – no sweetener or milk. It’s best all by itself.

This tea is what got me through a job where I had to be at work at 7:45 AM to make change and write receipts.

So I’m just starting off into the world of tea and I picked up a bunch of staple Black Teas by classic brands at my local Fresh Thyme including this right here. As a complete newbie, this is amazing compared to the Tazo and Great Value teas I’ve had. The flavor is simple but rather deep and satisfying, rounded out by what must be the Mate. Really, really enjoying this, especially for the price. If this is just a decent tea, I can’t wait to taste a really good one.

When your morning (or day) needs a kickstart, this is the perfect tea. I brew a pot of it, usually—3 bags—and let it steep. I’ve found that if you drink it right away, the bitterness is a bit too strong. But if you let it sit for five or ten minutes, it mellows into a very pleasant tea with notes of wood or bark and smoke. Not for everyone, of course, and not even for every morning—I honestly think that too much of this stuff could make your heart explode—but for those long days that you’re just dreading, or too tired to even think about? This tea will get you through.

This is another one I bought on a whim from the salvage grocery store. I figured even if it was bad, I could just make it into chai or something.

Turns out, it’s not great. I mean, I’m not a fan of yerba mate in the first place, so I might be biased. It’s strong, rubbery-tasting and cloudy. Very dark and pungent. With a little sweetner, it’s not bad, but it’s defintely not a great black tea experience. There are notes of green plant matter, earth, and hay.

However, they weren’t kidding about it being energizing. Black tea plus yerba mate = cracked-out Tabby. I’m going to have to remember this on days when I’m dragging my feet at work.

So, basically, I don’t recommend this tea for the taste or quality. But I do recommend it for the buzz!

Now all you need is some Cubby Wubby Womb Room tea…

Had this in CO a few years ago, and loved the kick of caffeine.

This tea is fine.
Not my favorite morning blend, but it does wake me up.
I’ve noticed that this tea does have a distinct almost fishy flavor. Not fish though, it’s not bad. I actually enjoy the fact that it doesn’t taste like average black tea.

I hated this tea, then grew to like it. Pretty startling mate flavor (not a consistent mate drinker here) but pretty good for a wake-up tea. For me, it needs some soy milk, and maybe a bit of sugar.

Just tried this tea for the first time this morning, after being intrigued by the beautiful picture of the Buffalo on the packaging. It was a little decieving. When I opened up the box and smelled the teabags, they smelled almost exactly like Irish breakfast tea or even English Breakfast. So was expecting a similar taste. But as soon as I poured the boiling water over the teabag, it gave off a strong, smoky smell. After steeping for about 2/3 minutes (I generally like my black teas less robust), I added a little bit of sugar and milk. The taste was very unique! I’m actually pleasantly surprised how something so earthy and smoky can be so comforting! I did not, however, notice any sort of “wake me up” qualities in the tea. But this might be because caffeine, even in coffee, rarely affects me. Overall, a “campfire in a cup”, and a very interesting tea. Will definitely be finishing the box.
