From Canton Tea Co

A rare single bush Dan Cong from a top producer on the lower slopes of Wu Dong mountain. This Dan Cong offers the characteristic intense fruit and floral notes with a long aftertaste.

A remarkable tea displaying all the characteristics of a classic Dan Cong. Fruit, nuts and blossom jostle for position and every brew is distinct with a subtle emphasis on a different flavour. This is a true single bush tea, all the leaves actually do come from just one tree and have been skillfully processed by this highly sought-after producer.

The new Winter 2011 crop of this tea has just arrived and is tasting even more delicious than last season’s.

It’s not everyday that you find a Dan Cong by accident. In this case, I was trying to catalog (a travailing feat, I assure you) my canisters. I found this amidst a pu-erh canister for some reason. Naturally, I gave it a go…well…a day or two later.

It’s a very green oolong with a buttery profile, similar to Taiwanese oolongs in delivery. That and it gets even more so with each successive steep. Cream and flowers also make their mandatory appearance on the palate.

I have yet to come up with a requisite flavor profile for the Dan Congs I’ve tried. They all differ significantly. Guess I’m just going to have to stick to drooling noises.

Just got this one as a free sample along with my latest order and I am very pleased that I did. Upon opening the packet I was hit by a smell reminiscent of wet, mossy woodland. The leaf is a lovely bluish green colour and is so inviting. I put a tablespoon of leaf into my small glass teapot and added water. The liquor started greenish almost immediately, finally brewing to a yellowish green colour. Upon beginning to pour the tea, I was instantly hit by a grapefruity, honey smell with strong woodland flower elements that knocked me flat. It was gorgeous and intense. Then I tasted the tea. Wow! Grapefruit, honeysuckle, other floral notes that I cannot identify. It’s delicious and I am already regretting that I only have a 10g sample. This one is going straight onto the buying list.
