From Čajový Dom

An excellent grade of Japanese tamaryokucha tea from Miyazaki prefecture, processed by the traditional method of roasting on hot plates (kamairi) similar to the traditional Chinese processing of green teas. The Minekaori cultivar literally means “mountain peak scent” and this cultivar is ideal for kamairi processing. The leaves are gently twisted and give a fresh, lightly roasted sweet scent with the scent of a coniferous forest. After pouring, the aroma is fruity woody and creamy herbal. The taste is complex, pleasantly sweet, with a subtle umami in combination with hazelnut tones with a long aftertaste.

This was a free sample I got with my recent purchase. It’s a punchy tea with a creamy mouthfeel and a room-filling aroma.

Dry leaves smell buttery and vegetal, later on moss, custard, and spinach aromas emerge too. First infusion has a pretty strong umami for a tamaryokucha. It is nutty and peppery with a sweet finish and a cacti flavour. Second one is more grassy and astringent with a citric acid note to it. Some bitterness appears later too, creating a pretty pungent brew overall. The aftertaste is yeasty, cooling and mineral.
